  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 05:55 PM) I don't know perhaps you just don't have any sort of rebuttal, it's alright you're not the first. Although I've agreed that he is possibly the better option, it really isn't as clear-cut as some wanna make it out to be. As far as earning the job in spring training, his numbers didn't exactly dominate Erstad's. I do agree that if he's not going to even be used as a late-inning defensive replacement, it would benefit the team for him to be snet down to get consistent at-bats because he's not ready to be a consistent major-league hitter. But like today I think, for example, when people were clamoring for him to come in and hit for Podsednik, I didn't agree with. I know people luv him and wanna see him play, but I'd rather see him coming in as a defensive replacement than to hit for possibly the only person hitting fairly well, no matter how much they hate that guy. Now, I know you'll respond by saying that it isn't you that is biased. If so, my original post was not meant for you. I like the informative, well though-out posts. It's the blind biases either way that can be a bit overwhelming at times, and the most usually come when defending ba or hating Ozzie. It'll never be enough to sway my own personal opinions, but just enough for me to take notice.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 05:32 PM) Then it's not the board doing it to you, you're doing it to your damn self. How much of this bulls*** even has to do with Anderson or people thinking he's any good? Practically none. It has more to do with Erstad being a s***ty hitter who was just handed a job at the beginning of the season, Podsednik being a terrible defensive player, a young player being kept on the bench when he could be improving his game in AAA and Ozzie Guillen's stubborn nature, unwilling to make defensive replacements or pinch hit for his light hitting vets. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) You certainly enjoy overreacting don't you? Perhaps you shouldn't take this s*** so personally? I don't mind the relevant, thought-out posts. It's hearing it over and over, along with how terrible Ozzie is, that can be overwhelming. Unlike a lot of other people, I don't ever end up absoluting hating anybody in a Sox uniform.
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Just ask yourself: What would Sanjaya do? lol My advice is do what you feel is right and just don't regret it. As long as it isn't illegal and/or immoral, experience things for yourself, enjoy them, learn from those with unfavorable outcomes, and just don't regret it.
  4. Furthering the furthered observation: He's damn sexy too.
  5. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) I think the prefered term is Hit it n Quit it. Hittin it is old, son...all bout smashin now...

  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) AWESOME!!! I can't wait two years to find out if Chicago gets it or not! Damn you all and your need for instant gratification!
  8. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) This thread has been hilarious. Guillen has been nothing short of spectacular for a first-time manager, bringing a World Series to a city that has been without one for 88 years; and yet, people will still question his defensive substitutions (or lack thereof), bullpen decisions, and lineup card on a daily basis. Part of me wants Guillen to get axed just so all of you can sit through a manager that does everything by the book. Go ask Bob Brenly how that worked our for him and his career. Ask Bobby Cox how he was able to manage the same franchise for 17 years--by playing every decision by the book? Hardly...and, yet, Guillen developed his managerial prospectives while under Cox's tutelage. If managers' decisions are worth roughly 10 wins or losses per year, Guillen has earned this team far more wins than he has losses. You want Bob Brenly, you can have him. Get real. Good post. He's not perfect and you can question some of his decisions and choices, as you can any manager/coach in any sport, but overall, he's proven to be a pretty good manager. Maybe not great, but pretty good, in my opinion.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) Are you drawing this from his one game he's played? Are you saying he can't outplay GrindErstad's .176? That plus 2006. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) We all would. Thats why we want to see him start. To see him swing that bat. How are you going to see swings for Anderson if he isn't getting playing time? Sounds like he's starting tommorrow. Hopefully he has a good showing.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Whats the excuse for Grinderstad. None. There shouldn't be any. I wanna at least see some decent swings from anderson because so far he looks far more clueless than he should, regardless of playing time.
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) what should we expect from Anderson tomorrow? He barely plays and has to face CC. The day before the game and the built-in excuse has already begun...
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) I like Erstad, but I have a feeling Ozzie will make me hate him like he did Mackowiak last year. soxtalk is close to doing the same for me with anderson...like gload...and mccarthy...
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) Grocery and drug stores around here all the time wind up putting things on sale only to have me discover later that the item has gone out of stock, or was never there in the first place. No rain checks?
  14. Remember Juan's '05 defense? That was something else... Great win though.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 09:32 PM) He was hanging on the railing laughing it up with Garland in the bottom of the 9th. Everything's a joke to him...no wonder he's not playing...
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) Can anyone honestly say that Dye and Podsednik are better defenders than Anderson? I think it's a fair question to ask why the f*** Anderson is even on this team. Almost useless to put him in LF though. Might as well put him in CF with Erstad moving over, which I think is most ideal.
  17. Have I mentioned how much more worried I am about jenks than the pods stuff or anything else?
  18. Funny how out of this whole incident, the thing that seems to cause the most outrage from you is how one of the players reacted to the hurtful comments... And just out of curiosity, how is it that decide how a person should react in these types of situations?
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ he called them a name. OMG! What if someone called you a name today? Would you be "scarred for life"? Thank God no one here has ever been called names. I'm getting just a little sick by people blowing this s*** all out of proportion. He called them a name. I suggest everyone here that thinks he's the antiChrist examine their lives and if they called anyone a name, punish themselves as bad as Imus is getting puinished. Hell, if it was that bad, it would be illegal, We have laws for everything else. My God, when a dyed in the wool Democrat writes thte above, you know it's over the top. It was done on a large national stage and was completely uncalled for. According to you, what would the proper response have been then? I would imagine you've never had any nasty remarks made about you to a large national audience, but since you're so sure at what the proper response should be, what is it? Now, I did not catch the supposed "scarred for life" statement, but from what I have seen and read, the coach and team have been very classy and respectful in their statements. And from what I've seen and read, it was imus that wanted to set up the meeting. I'm surprised they would be criticized for any sort of response that showed that hurtful remarks actually hurt and bother them.
  20. QUOTE(spawn @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) I haven't read this entire thread becasue I about gagged after reading a few responses. I find it amazing that people can just shrug their shoulders at his comments. Basically, you people think "well, he said it. it was arong. BFD. Get over it." Never mind that he's been getting away with this crap for years. never mind that Mike Wallace confronted him in a 60 Minutes interview about him hiring his producer to "tell n**** jokes". Never mind that he's been comparing blacks to monkeys for years. All you care about is how the media made it a bigger deal than it was, or how Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson led the charge to have him ousted, or how gansta rap is full of references to b****** and ho's. Answer this simple question: what the hell did the ladies of Rutgers do to deserve this? Most of them probably had no idea who the hell Don Imus was before this incident, yet they have to hear or read about him calling them nappy headed ho's on his nationally syndicated radio show. As a black parent, if one of these ladies was my child, I would be extremely pissed off. As a black man, I am extremely pissed off. But here's the deal: you shouldn't have to be black or a woman to be offended by his remarks. I don't like having Sharpton and Jackson as leaders for the black community, but I also don't have a problem with them making this an issue. As extreme as they are, they still have an audience. If the media doesn't make this an issue, then when does it get addressed? In regards to the person who said the ladies of Rutgers shouldn't have made a big deal of it, that it's only words, when does it become a big deal? When someone actually calls them a n***** on the air? Racism is alive an well here in the US. is the media supposed to just ignore when someone with the following Imus has makes disparaging comments about a group of people? Are they supposed to just look away? I applaud the handling of this situation. Just remember: before this got blown up, Imus himself didn't see the big deal. He wasn't remoseful or apologetic right after he made those remarks. He didn't offer any apologies until he realized he may be in danger of losing his job. I for one am glad he got fired. MSNBC and CBS may have only done it because Imus was no longer marketable for them, but they did it nonetheless.
  21. I swear I thought this was another Ozzie thread...
