  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) Reverse discrimination is still discrimination. I did not say it wasn't. I am against all discrimination. My point continues to be that the "double standard/reverse racism" cry of "If rappers and minority comics say it, why can't I?" should not be used as validation for hateful comments. Racist and sexist hateful comments should not be made period.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Do you really think the discriminating against white people is going to make things better? All you do then is breed contempt and hate again. Everytime you draw a line between you and me, you just make it easier to reenforce the racism that exsists in this country, even if it is for a seemingly good purpose. What discrimination against white people would that be?
  3. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) on an unrelated non-recruiting note, am1000 is saying that wilson chandler is going pro. As is the sun-times: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/colleges/33...demon12.article wscr and channel 7 have too. I could use a few head-shake smileys right now...
  4. Hitters really need the same rant too, by the way...
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) Only 2 starters had thrown, how can anyone even say the starting pitching was faltering? He went on a tirade after game 2, I just don't see how that allows for enough of a sample size to make an direct connection between the 2. But yeah, I guess if Joe Cowley says so then I should just assume that Vazquez would have s*** himself in his first outing had Ozzie not yelled at him 2 days prior. Eh, they weren't exactly stellar in spring training either... I'm not about to give Ozzie that much credit either but at least he was proactive.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) And that's what Southsider was saying. So your point is, again? Well, I never said "reverse discrimination" was wrong or invalid, just that I do not agree with it much and think it's the best, which is why his request to explain why it is wrong or invalid confused me, so I stated my point. Now you want me to re-state it? Which part gave you trouble?
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) Explain how it is invalid or wrong. Well, regardless of the supposed "double standards," the comments were still racist, sexist, and offensive. No matter how many rappers or comedians people will claim say it (yet I've never, ever heard a rapper refer to black people as "monkeys"), what he said and has said still is wrong. It's still not an excuse. But in this situation, I find the "reverse discrimination" and "double standards" arguments laughable because it isn't until an old white guy is vilified for his comments that there's a sudden outcry about rap lyric content. All of a sudden, there's a rush to find valid reasoning as to why it's OK for him to say those types of things. It was a direct attack on the girls on the rutgers team, regardless of what music they listen to or what comedians say. Why try to make excuses when it was just plain wrong? And "reverse discrimination" is the best because white people largely benefit from double standards enough as it is. Is it really necessary to also make it completely socially acceptable for white people to tell black jokes now? QUOTE(Top Notch @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) Was Imus wrong to say that on public radio? Yes. Are Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton two of the biggest racists on this planet? Yes. Screw them all. Now, that I can basically agree with.
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) I think it's hypocritical. Imus has been doing the African American athletes are monkeys shtick for years. What changed in the last week? If so, that’s appalling. The fact that he’s been doing for years doesn’t make it any more acceptable. QUOTE(Shadows @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) I didn't find anything wrong with what he said.. QUOTE(Shadows @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 01:43 AM) With all the complaining the Rutgers coach did about the remarks being racist and degrading women blah blah maybe they haven't tuned into some of the rap/hip hop songs that have been played on the radio for decades.. The same stuff that Imus said has been said for years and years and this is like the first time I have seen it blown up like this.. Still doesn’t make it right. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) I still don't understand how this is "racist". Racist and sexist, but racist nonetheless. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) Race issues are every so much fun, they really bring out the hypocracy of the race card in America. QUOTE(NUKE @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 03:35 AM) This is just further proof of the double standard that exists in America. Blacks and Hispanics can say whatever they want to whenever they want to but if a white person says someting like that he's this evil person that deserves to have his career ruined. Typical political correctness bulls*** is what this is. … QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 10:12 AM) double standard blah f'n blah BOO HOo i'm white and i can't say nappy headed hos. My life sucks. America sucks! All i want to do is say nappy headed hos but I can't because I'm white! DARNIT! The “reverse-racism/reverse discrimination” argument is one of the best…
  9. I had the same trouble with that damn Twilight Princess puzzle with the 2 statues hopping around just last week. Anything remotely mathematical and I'm probably gonna struggle.
  10. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) Hey maybe the NBA can "fix" this lottery and make the bulls a powerhouse. Did you hear collins is transferring to DePaul? And I really hope that giangreco on channel 7 is wrong about Wilson Chandler declaring for the draft. Horrible move on his part and bad for DePaul, but there's been conflicting information on what he's gonna do.
  11. I'm just surprised because I came on expecting to hear more about Jenks' poor performance than about how this is all Ozzie's fault and more "ba should be in there!" talk. Hell, Contreras got an "is he done?" thread after that 1st start. I was actually more concerned with Jenks than Contreras and a few of the other pitchers, particularly coming out of spring training. And Jenks performing poorly has much, much more significant and long-term repercussions for the bullpen and team than Podsednik being a below-average fielder.
  12. QUOTE(shoota @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:15 AM) You're done. ... Anyways, I still think it's laughable to call it "Ozzie's F Up." A defensive replacement may have helped, but there's no guarantee that what likely would've happened, which is ba in CF and Erstad in LF, means that throw is made on the money or that last out is caught. I'm still putting about 80% of the blame on Jenks for just flat-out not getting the job done. That's what pissed me off the most.
  13. QUOTE(shoota @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) But you do acknowledge Guillen's mistake of not using BA as a 9th inning defensive replacement, right? How does having ba in CF guarantee that the ball gets caught in LF? Don't tell me you knew that's where the ball was going and would've had ba in LF.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:50 AM) It basically comes down to this. If you defend Ozzie for everything he does, then you have to reeeeeeally stretch to make an excuse here. If you are anybody else on the face of the Earth, you see he made a mistake mostly because he's pig-headed and severly dislikes Brian Anderson. I just don't see how Ozzie would get all the blame for this one when Jenks was pitching so s***ty. If you're an Ozzie-hater, you have to reeeeeeally stretch to blame this loss all on Ozzie or most of the blame on Ozzie and Podsednik over Jenks.
  15. Jenks needs to get those outs, plain and simple.
  16. 15-try range too. And those codes you guys posted didn't work.
  17. QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) How does this get it's own thread and the Nappy headed Ho's comment doesn't? I think that was wayyyy more out of line. Yeah, I was shocked to hear that...
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) It's still early by the way. Very early. But he has been playing fairly well and is helping the team win. And with him and Erstad playing fairly well and contributing, it means not having to sift through 8 threads of why ba should be starting. I'm liking our bullpen. Tonight was one of those feel-good wins that shows what we're capable of, and I hope they can get on a roll. I liked the execution for the most part.
  19. Remember when Thome started off really hot last year? Those were the days...
  20. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) exactly. As long as he's not rushed..
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Probably a little bit of truth in that, but let's not overlook that Erstad has been playing very well so far and Podsednik has been pretty serviceable enough. Only thing keeping him down is the CSs, in my opinion. Doesn't look as quick and it remains to be seen if he ever regains that speed (probably not). Scoring on that throwing error a couple of games ago is the type of thing he has to do to remain productive, which is getting on base and being somewhat disruptive. Now, whether he can continue to be as productive throughout the rest of the season is a whole 'nother argument (again, probably not), but so far Erstad and Pods have done well enough to keep the ba argument fairly mute.
  22. Great, very well-known movies should never be remade because they will immediately be compared to the original and not be anywhere near as good.
