QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) The entire DeVos family made their money on the backs of fools (Amway). From my experience working in GR, Amway is kind of a joke.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of charter schools at all. I just thought it was worthwhile to point out that there is support of them from communities with legitimate concerns and not just grifters and ideological crusaders. Sen. Kaine pressed DeVos on the standards or complete lack thereof for charter and private schools yesterday. She refused to say that non-public schools receiving public funding should be held to the same standards. You can see her philosophy in the Michigan school system. There are many Charter schools that are bottom of the barrel and they stay open because they are profitable. People in her home state hate her.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) You see strong support for charter schools among the African American community typically because, generally speaking, our public schools are failing their communities. The idea that our public education system especially in poorer areas needs to be revamped isn't a bad one, but introducing a profit motive and stripping money from public schools doesn't magically solve problems. Instead, it tends to invite an awful lot of grifters only interested in making a quick buck, or people like DeVos who are devoted to a very particular religious or ideological education and oppose modern secular liberal arts education. Eh. In michigan the Charter schools are extremely poor but continue to be in business because they are profitable. Standards arent nearly as important as making money.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) yea that all sounds like rich people doing whatever the f*** they want with their money and f*** everyone else Basically the people already sending their kids to the best private schools now get a portion of it subsidized from what used to go to the local public school.
-
At some point what you end up getting is kids traveling a long way for a decent education, and increased competition to get your kid into the good schools. You then get things like lotteries in which you are not even sure if both of your children will attend the same school (they do this in some places in Chicago).

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 08:43 AM) Can someone put the vouchers system in laymans terms for me? I have read that it has pretty much failed in every state it has been tried in, but I dont really understand the concept because every article i read skips right to "it failed and cost the state a lot of money" There are so many different opinions on what it actually means. Basically you get a publically funded "voucher" that you can spend at any school you choose to send your child. Its supposed to encourage free market competition between all schools, public and private. In many cases its been used as a vehicle to increase revenue for Christian schools though and it directly takes the taxpayer out of the loop on how schools are run financially. Many of the proponents think competition is good and also will drive down costs (salaries of teachers) for schooling.

I've seen people more prepared for interviews to be a laborer.

DeVos is pretty much universally hated in her home state and town. That says alot. I love how Clinton was the "pay to play" candidate and literally the entire cabinet is being filled with people who are paying for their positions.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 02:03 AM) You guys who have been on TV, post the videos if they are online! I'm sick of googling. No f***ing chance.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 09:32 PM) This team just isn't very good. The Top 2 lines are no where to be found. I mean, they are in 2nd place, so they must be pretty good.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) I checked and it's on the right ARC port. And no android tv. Try to put everything into tv and then optical to receiver. In your audio settings in the tv menu there should be an option where optical is the audio output instead of tv speakers and it should have a 5.1 or 7.2 option
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) That was how I originally set it up but the ARC channel was not giving me any audio and I could not figure out why. All the settings on the TV and receiver were both on. But even still, the sound on the TV currently is still set to come out of the HDMI port and not the optical port and the TV is still not sending 5.1 sound down to the receiver without me telling it to. I'd have to look at it to figure it out. What do you want to go from your TV to your speakers? Are you using the smart function instead of an apple tv or somthing? Ah just re-read and saw that you do. Ok. So you can now do the inverse. All connections to TV, optical to receiver. Then the receiver stay on the same input all the time, but the tv switches.
-
Everything should go into your receiver and one HDMI to the tv. Your receiver should have the ability to pass through any signal while not on. It should also be able to support 4k.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) Of course he was an outlier, but he was pretty good in college. He led the Big 10 in passing efficiency and completion percentage. He did alternate for a while with Drew Henson. Who knows, maybe the Bears can draft an outlier. He wasnt top ten in any category for QB's his senior year. He was pretty pedestrian and tested like s*** at the combine. Thats why he was drafted where he was drafted. its the outlier of all outliers.
-
Brady is literally the ultimate outlier in the history of drafts. It proves nothing whatsoever. A guy who wasnt all that great in college ends up being drafted about where his performance and athletic appearance dictated, and then became an all-timer. If I put his stats next to JT Barrett's for example, you would probably pick JT
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) This draft could be a really good one. There is a ton of talent. TE, OLB, CB, S, DL, ILB. Just about everything outside of OL. I would want 10 picks for this draft. My feeling exactly, trade down fill in the holes.
-
I think this is a very fair ranking of talent in this draft and this is why the Bears cannot risk a QB as high as their pick is IMO. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000077...-2017-nfl-draft

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 10:59 AM) Bill Clinton was treated the same way by his opponents. As was Bush. As is every President. And frankly, Obama has been given serious passes for major f*** ups too, like the VA scandal (still ongoing!), Fast and Furious, Libya, the continuation of Gitmo and the drone program, etc. etc. Yeah, he had to deal with the birther nosense, and that's fair, but I think that's about the only race/religion specific crap he had to deal with.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) I'm thinking of upgrading gyms. The one I go to now is cheap and a pain to go to after I get off work and walk the dog, so I only go on weekends, which feels pointless. This other big one if right outside my subdivision and I know I would go 4 or 5 times a day, but maybe a tad expensive. How much does everyone pay for their memberships? I'm thinking I would be willing to pay $80 a month but this place maybe higher. I dont want to tell you how much I pay, because its stupid. I am a member at the local FFC with my wife and then also at OrangeTheory. I've only been to FFC twice maybe as I spend almost all my time at OTF. I honestly kept the FFC for awhile because I thought I'd want to supplement with weights and also swim but OTF is literally my favorite thing ever. I'd say pay what you think you would invest in yourself. If it adds up to a few more bucks a day and you will actually go, its worth it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) I use lastpass. I have the premium version which is relatively inexpensive ($1/month) but they have a free version you can check out. I basically have one super complex password to lastpass. Every other password is randomly generated for every site I use and they are extremely complex. I love not having to remember any of the other passwords anymore. Works with moblie devices too. Any password vault by definition makes it easier to remember your stuff, but does not reduce the likelihood of you getting hacked. Hacking someone's password through brute force is one way. The easier and more traditional way of hacking someone is by resetting their password and figuring out their secret questions. Its quite easy actually.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) Anyone have a good, secure way of managing all your passwords. And when I say "secure", I mean in the relative sense, where it is secure, but you can keep everything in one spot without it being a giant pain to ever access, etc. Oh and I want free. Do people just use googledrive with a protected spreadsheet, or does anyone use the fancier tools that are out there (which auto remember, input, etc). I'm tired of going to certain accounts every once in a while to only have to struggle to ever remember how to get on. I use what I sell for work, its not free but it works. Passwords in general are a pain in the ass. My tip would be use a phrase thats long that you can remember, but nobody else can find out from your social media. I use 2 different phrases for different levels of website security.
