QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) My dad used to drink heavily every night. When I was young, he would finish a bottle of liquor(when I was young it was Grand Marnier, he moved onto Jonny Walker red, then black) and a -case- of beer a night. And every morning he was up before me and was an extremely successful businessman. To this day I can't understand how he could do it, I am wrecked for days drinking like that on a Saturday much less every day of the week. It's also a big part of the reason why I drink very sparingly Good luck Steve, if you are quitting completely or if you are just taking a break and figuring out where you stand with alcohol. Functional alcoholism. Thats the hardest thing to kick. I started traveling as a salesman when I was 23 and that definitely contributed. You just get used to the extra coffee etc I guess. My brother in law quit because of his alcoholism and he always asked me how I can be successful and have a family and drink (when I was bad a few years ago), I said thats the worst part. I almost had no reason to stop. Good for you dude. I'm betting your genetics are prone to it, so it takes serious balls to not drink.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:14 PM) Congrats to you for taking it upon yourself to control the booze and not let it control you. I would imagine the wife must be happy about your accomplishment so far. Sounds like you've got it well under control Steve. I didn't really struggle with booze but did heavily binge drink on the weekends. So much to the point I wouldn't crave a beer all week until Friday came around and then it was on all weekend long. Lost my desire for that lifestyle when I got into my late 30's and the hangovers started lasting two days after I last drank. Getting lit on a Friday night would destroy my entire weekend and a few times I still didn't feel all that great for work on Monday. My wife laughs at me now because when we first met I was 35 and she would be amazed by how I could sit down with a case of beer or a bottle of Jameson and knock it back like nothing, but now I when I drink it's two or three beers/shots and that's good for me. Glad I slowed down when I did because I have wicked digestive issues and my doctor told me is likely from all the alcohol I consumed on the weekends for so many years. If only I had learned moderation sooner, lol. Its funny, I had digestive issues actually in my early/mid twenties because of drinking, and thats also when I met my wife. I would polish off a fifth of bourbon before going out sometimes like it was nothing. Sometimes before work I'd drink a 6 pack of beer driving home from vernon hills and then drink all night at work. My doctor reviewed my habits (I was honest) and simply told me I wouldnt have a stomach if I continued that much longer. Nexium saved me from my GERD and my ulser cleared up. I stopped any type of brown liquor for almost 10 years. I'm back into bourbon (whenever I drink again) but only to sip. My favorite thing was grab a 2 liter of coke and a fifth of Jim beam black and just kill it while pre gaming. So dumb

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) If he resigns, it doesn't count in the bet. Michigan ain't firing Beilein. I can't even watch them. Hand off, ball screen, dribble around arc. Ha, I laughed at that one. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) Michigan is trash. CJ Wilson is good and Wagner has potential, but their seniors stink. I like Walton but something is up with him and Irvin is another top recruit flop. Makes 1-9 from 3's but you know when he makes that 1, he'll celebrate like he won the game. Not as bad as OSU. I bet we fire our coach first. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 31, 2016 -> 11:48 PM) I was disappointed that they didn't flesh out Forrest Whittaker's character more. They could have made that movie 4+hours and I probably still would have watched it just to see more background and storyline.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) I drink probably 3-4 nights a week. 1-2 drinks max, with maybe 1 night a month where I go out and drink more. I just can't do hangovers anymore. It got to the point with kids that dealing with the following day, with the lack of sleep and feeling like ass for another 24 hours, just wasn't worth it. New Years this year my wife and I had a few drinks and made it to 12 and it felt like we cured cancer or something. It was a major achievement. It's rough. Those nights where you go out hard hurt for 3 days at least. I'm dead tired and unproductive at work and with my kid. It's really motivated me to cut way down. I mean I was getting blacked out by myself on thursday's sometimes because there was a game on or something.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Drinking until there was no drink left and then sometimes heading out to acquire more drink. Know thyself. Yup. Sitting by yourself drinking until the wee hours is usually a warning sign. I will say my weekends are much more productive. I still budget a day a month to go out and feel like s*** the next day, but thats about it. The summers are harder for me with golf and lake living and stuff, but I'm hoping I lose my appetite a bit for it.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 07:17 AM) caulfield pretty much summed it up pretty well. The US should not emulate those countries with the type of resources we have, we should exceed them. Sure, the US is still the primary go to place in the world for immigration but we absolutely can do better. That being said, our politicians are to blame for the failures of our country and the people who elect them as well. edit: I feel like the US attitude is "I got mine, now go f*** yourself!" Pretty much. We also dont seem to care that much about our educational system in the same way those countries do. They really invest in the futures of kids, we simply look for a way to reduce taxes while keeping some schools open. Meanwhile the wealthy still get the best education money can buy. Our divide gets larger, and because of that, we will never aspire to be a country like them. -
Seems like the cast has backed off of the steroids a bit.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) So confession time. Today is day 52 of my sobriety. Some random combination of an always-brewing controlled alcoholism plus lots of nights where wife and kid were in bed nice and early had me drinking like a mad man. I came to a point where it just had to stop yay those days ago, and needless to say life is pretty good. Anyone else out there ever struggle with booze? I just always wanted 10 after I had one and kept finding reasons to have that one which led to the 10 and so on. While I was a high-performing gentleman prior to quitting drinking, I think I'm only now starting to realize the very real benefits of not drinking the massive amount of booze I was consuming on a most-of-the-time nightly basis. I'm pretty stoked. Anyway, likely TMI for an internet message board, but y'all's my peeps! I have two speeds: 0 and 100. And my 100 can get bad, real bad. So nowadays I am actually sober except for maybe one night a month give or take. Personally I think to each their own but you (I) have to know what kind of drinker you are. Personally I was one that would be out till 4am if I started.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) my wife makes 90k my nanny makes 28k Yeah, I wish that was the case. My wife was a teacher, it was basically a loss overall as well as the time she could spend with the kid.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) lol paperwork props. And it won't be a blind trust, it'll be run by his sons. The same sons he has sit in on all of his meetings. So it's not severing conflicts of interest at all, and probably still in violation of the emoluments clause. He's not going to divest from hotels, golf clubs, real estate properties, anything. Its an ethics nightmare. He's going to get impeached.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) It is worth mentioning that these are the same intelligence agencies that gave us WMD's in Iraq. Yeah they had a bad source on that one, but the administration also needed an excuse to go in there.

He's going to get caught in one of those lies eventually and wont be able to claim fake news. The republican party is just sitting back waiting for him to get impeached so they can put a puppet in his place.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) State's Rights!* * Exceptions to State's Rights include regulating where you can go to the bathroom, who you can marry or sleep with, and what you put into your body. Remember how awesome it was when Trump saved 800 Carrier jobs? Well Colorado created 18,000 jobs in 2015 in the marijuana industry. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp...m=.4659241ac5c9 I mean, Marijuana is still illegally to the federal government, but we've left it to the states to determine if it is there. Thats almost a model of what the republican party used to stand for
