Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
RockRaines replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Happy we traded Sale before he broke down. Thought we started to see signs of it last year. I wonder if we hear leaks about how awful he was to Ventura, etc His hero is Drake LaRoche. Pretty sure there were several people in the clubhouse who he was awful to. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) Pretty much. I know our season ticket group stretching back 40 years was officially disbanded last week. Doubt were alone. Sox are going to be in for an extremely rough time these next few years. The writing was on the wall with what the Cubs did. Even if they stiched together something that looked ok on paper, they were going to have a rough year at the box office. -

QUOTE (Real @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) You need more than "the top prospect in baseball" for Chris Sale, starting with a teams top two at least. we went over this in the other thread. People here vastly under value Chris Sale, and Hahn did too it seems. what a joke. Every baseball exec on the planet undervalues him according to your scale. Any chance your scale isnt calibrated correctly? -

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) Most talented. But also a complete asshat. This. There is a reason they were ok with dealing him. Dude is a dickface -
Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) Giolito and Robles or its equivalent will be there for Sale months from now. 0 reason to rush into that on the first day of the winter meetings. Yep. The Sox for one of the first times ever have no reason to move now or cave. WE hold literally all the cards. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 07:51 PM) For anyone to say he doesn't at least deserve to be nominated shows how unaware you are. Were there or deserving guys? Of course. But he's still one of the best athletes in college football and deserves to at least make the trip to NY for,the recognition, as you said. At least 50 more deserving guys, but yeah he's an "athlete." Show me ONE metric that puts him in the top 10 players in the country. He's a LB so it should probably be tackles, or sacks, or TFL, or if you consider him a DB as well, how about pass defended, INTs, completion percentage when targeted. Or we can use his offensive stats? Anything, just show me anything. -

And I understand if you think just being nominated is a joke, but not everyone feels that way. Just to be nominated is an honor IMO and he doesn't deserve it. I'll add I don't agree with most of the list. Not just him. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 06:35 PM) Love the social media outrage over Peppers being a Heisman finalist. Of course he doesn't belong but who cares? It's obvious who's going to win. Because there are players who probably did deserve to attend and instead you have a guy who doesn't have enough plays to fill up a highlight reel when they introduce him. I cannot recall a less deserving player of a trip to the ceremony. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 07:31 AM) True, maybe it's a lingering injury. So much talk about the lack of a 3rd player on that 1st line, but that shouldn't be an excuse for a $10+ million player. It was mentioned it was a pre-existing injury that was tweaked. So the extra time off is being given to full recover.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Eh, I eat lunch places more than any other restaurant (because I'm lazy). I have always really loved Freshii and people think it's gross, so I hear ya. I work from home so I use lunch as an excuse to get out. I like any place where i can eat a nice healthy lunch during the week with good service. I like Jason's, Panera, Jersey Mike's, Chipotle, Naf Naf and a few more at the moment.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) Panera is one of my favorite places to eat. I usually get mocked when I say that. Its come a hell of a long way lately on improving menu and customer experience. I can order with their mobile app and walk in and grab my food 10 min later. The ordering process is all automated if you want it to be. They have cleaned up their menu and made it fresher and healthier. Its like they took alot of things that were wrong with it and completely changed it. I love it now.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) corner bakery is the worst. Always has been.. Have you been to the newer Panera's yet? Theyve come a long way. Food is fresher and healthier and you can order quickly

You swim in the cenotes? My wife and I generally either stay on resort or go into town to eat drink and shop so I am not much help.

Of course, right when we get them back on our schedule. House of horrors. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) I don't think Lewis meets the Bears Arm Length and Height threshold at CB though. The kid at Iowa is better than Lewis. Both guys at Ohio State (Conley, Lattimore) are both better too. Lattimore has a spotty injury history, I wouldnt risk a pick on him. Good athlete, bad hamstrings. I personally think Lewis is going to be a very good starting CB in the NFL.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Peppers was rarely covering guys in the secondary, which is why he only had one INT. He was usually in on the pass rush or in LB area. Even as a Wolverine fan, the Peppers hype was a little over done. Lewis and Taco were better defensively this year. He spent last season entirely in the secondary. He's just not very good at coverage which is why he was converted to an OLB this year. He's good at setting the edge and blitzing. Jourdan Lewis is head and shoulders a better defensive player and playmaker. Stribling actually had an awesome year as well. Malik Hooker is going to be a dynamic safety in the NFL, however right now he's leaning towards staying. If someone is hell bent on taking a Big Ten defensive player in the first round, Lewis is the hands down no brainer selection.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) Peppers could end up being like a Deon Bucannon type player. Just not sure you draft that in the top 5-7 picks. Top 15 maybe. Miniature Linebackers arent drafted that high. He's going to be a good kick and punt returner.

And if who you played wasn't important then two loss conference champ Oklahoma has a say. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 4, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) It just feels like the goalposts move around every year. Probably goes back to the Big 12 snub of TCU dropping three spots because they didn't have the thirteenth datapoint/championship and that being so important, until apparently it's not. The committee needs to get it's messaging right. I do believe Ohio State is one of the best four teams in the nation, but the reasoning the committee gives every year is different. Who you beat and lose to are important and the OOC was weak for those teams so the conf title broke the tie. This year it's not close. What was close was a two loss team with a better resume than a one loss team that played cupcakes. -

I'm guessing PSU hops Michigan and that's it. -
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) Didn't get paid? That's kind of odd. I get the players union doesn't give a s*** about random emergency players, but thought he would receive a sweet 1-day salary of like $3K or whatever it would have been. They pass the hat in the locker room off the record.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 11:14 PM) Top tier wins and # of losses (not even necessarily to who) are what always matter 100x more than anything, whether it's the eye test, conference championships, head to head, etc. Ohio State arguably has the best wins in the country. Zero chance they get left out. Best wins and best loss. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 11:00 PM) It'll be Ohio State ahead of Penn State, but now the message will be the conference titles and head to head don't matter as much as the eye test. Lol. If by eye test you mean resume of your wins and losses, then yes.
