  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 08:51 AM) Mine are definitely a cheap version. May have the first item on my Xmas list now. My workout pair were only about 30-40 bucks and they are waterproof and seemingly last forever, my wife has torn through four pairs of 15-20 dollar ones and they are crap. Of course my Bose ones are incredible but that price point is ridiculous. Luckily I got them for free.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 06:51 AM) I got the 6 two years ago so when did the stop charging the $200 and start charging $30 a month. Don't like this. Bluetooth headphones rule. It's annoying when I forget to charge and they run out of juice as I get to gym but that's my problem. The cheaper BT headphones dont hold a charge very well I found out on a flight after I bought them at the bookstore, but I have a couple of decent pairs and I really really like them. I also broke the connector off in the jack while on a flight so I cant use regular ones with my ipad anymore.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Saw the iPhone 7 hype. Swiftly ordered the 6s Plus simply to have a headphones jack. I need that headphone jack. You don't like Bluetooth?
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) Ferentz probably has a clause he can be fired for NCAA violations. So might as well wrap him up to end his career there. He's kind of like Snyder at K-State. You aren't going to do better than Kirk so why not tie him up? He already had 5 years left, I was assuming that was the end of his career, maybe not. Maybe he'll Paterno and stay until just before death.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) His buyout was $8 million because it went down every year. It was over $20 million 2 or 3 years ago. I don't know why you are so concerned about Iowa wanting to lock up its very successful football coach. I am an alum and think it is a good move. Have been following the team since he was an assistant under Hayden, and am a bit more realistic IMO, of their chances to compete year after year. There are going to be down years. There are going to be great ones, they aren't winning a National Championship. And to think they should ne in the conversion for one isn't being realistic. Iowa is usually top 10 in Athlectic department revenue., so they can afford him. And the buyout isn't going to happen anyway. He will retire in a few years and his son will be the next Iowa head coach. Don't be so sensitive. Nobody is "concerned", it's a message board and we are voicing our opinions on something that many other people have. The extension is weird and his agent is a genius.
  6. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) If you take out the 4 years already guaranteed based on his prior contract that number drops (it's essentially a 6 season extension). Regardless, it's not a lot of money for a top 15-20 team that goes bowling ever year and needs some momentum to keep up ticket sales. All the articles i've read state there was a huge drop off in 2014 before the Rose Bowl season last year. I don't think anyone was questioning his salary, just the unnecessary extension and buyout. In the last few years his salary has settled down about right where it should rank in the grand scheme of thing for sure.
  7. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) The potential of 40. He's not guaranteed that if they blow for those last 5 years. He's guaranteed right now about 39 million and it can increase based on what I saw. 39+ is the min
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Is the buyout a two way street in that in order to leave the hiring party would have to pay Iowa that amount? Doesn't the buyout essentially mean he is not going anywhere? Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, Indiana, Rutgers, and Maryland would die for the stability that he is bringing to that program. Fitz at NU is very comparable. Keep the program clean, keep the team interesting and make a run at hte Rose Bowl from time to time. Huh? Iowa routinely has some of the highest arrest numbers in the nation. I dont consider that close to what NW does. And where exactly was a coach his age going to go with 5 years left on his contract and an already large buyout?
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) He had similar language in his previous contract. If they were to buy him out 4 or 5 years ago, it would have cost a mint. Recruits know who is going to be coaching Iowa. I don't know why that's a bad thing. Besides, it isn't like coaching salaries are going to be dropping any time soon. His buyout went from 8 to over 40 million dollars. Recruits knew he would still be coaching Iowa for the next 5 years already.
  10. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) I'll never understand extending a coach when they have multiple years left. Even if you don't expect to make a change, it's an unnecessary risk for debateable gain. Especially a guy at that age who isnt really being courted by anyone. The buyout increase makes no sense.
  11. Thoughts are with you and your family dude
  12. My god, he must have pictures of someone, that buyout clause- WOW. It went from 8.4 million to AT LEAST 40 million
  13. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) Holy s*** is this sad: the Bears have made the playoffs only 5 times AD (After Ditka). 5 times in 24 seasons (1992). It will soon be 25. A lifetime of rebuilding/
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) I never said they were a title front-runner, but no one would ever expect Iowa to be the front runner to win a national champsionship. Under Ferentz, we've known were going to largely be competitive with certain years where we give it a pretty darn good run. This has included playing in some fantastic bowl games as well. Ferentz was re-energized the past year and I think they can have another very very good season (by Iowa standards) this year. By the way, since 2001, Wisconsin has had a 70% winning percentage vs. Iowa's 64% and has won an additional 14 games (essentially one more game per season). You are a math whiz, thats a nice stat. I'd argue there are several "geographically challenged" programs in that same boat like Nebraska, MN, WI, WVU, Utah, Colorado, Mizzou, Kentucky, Kansas, Oregon, Washington etc. Proximity to a bed of talent is a plus, and of course facilities and campus. Iowa was always my favorite place to visit, but I think you can surely argue they are top tier in that group.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 05:48 PM) Last year they were a couple plays from being in the playoffs. If that isn't competing, I don't know what is. And they have had a couple other times during the Ferentz era where they were right there. That is about all I can ask for. Not going to fire the guy cause they didn't win "it". Oregon has a billion dollar budget (yes, I exaggerate a bit, but its true). Wisconsin is a good and fair comparison though. Nobody said fire the guy, but extend his contract with 5 years still on it? Seemed very very premature when they havent won the conference in over a decade and he wasnt being heavily pursued by another program. And with all due respect, I dont believe Iowa was really in contention to win the national title, regardless of the outcome of that game. They did capitalize on not playing a single good team in conference until the title game which is all you could ask for. I just think there is more potential with Iowa than Ferentz has been tapping into the last decade. With the BIG West as crappy as it is, they should be able to be in the title game year after year, which of course has yet to be determined, but I would have waited another few years before I decided that I wanted Ferentz until he's senile.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) It's freaking Iowa. I don't think many coaches would do nearly as good as he does if most of their recruits come out of West Des Moines. Iowa isn't exactly a hot bed of football talent. Many places still play 7 on 7. He gets 2 and 3 star recruits a shot in the NFL as well as any coach in America. I have no idea how his style might work somewhere else, probably not as good as it does for others, but I don't think many people would have the success he has had in Iowa City. And those that perhaps would, are getting paid as well. His teams have finished the season ranked in the top 10 five times. When that happens at a place similar, like Minnesota, give me a call. It's a well deserved extension. He is a class act. From the Hayden Fry, Bill Belichick tree. If they could hire someone better, they wouldn't stay like he has. Iowa fans take him for granted. Whether he coaches another 10 years, I tend to doubt it. So that was a long way to say he's good enough and you don't expect better. Iowa at one point contended for national titles and that hope apparently is long gone. Imo Iowa city and the university have a lot to sell and recruiting isn't as good as it could be and the team isn't winning as much as it could be either. If you look at "similar" schools and their success vs the talent in state, Wisconsin is a great comparison and places like Oregon aren't far off. Iowa has a ton to sell and its location is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) Because he is a great coach. Who else is going to do what he does at Iowa? What makes him a "great" coach? He has 2 conference titles, the last one 12 years ago and has a somewhat pedestrian coaching record. Is he just "good enough"?
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 6, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) 3 guarantees in life: Death, taxes, and Kirk Ferentz @ Iowa. Is Jerry Reinsdorf the AD in Iowa City? They gave him a raise and an extension through 2026. I mean has he been flirting with other programs behind the scenes or something? Whats the point to pay him and keep extending him?
  19. Notre Dame isn't that great. It shouldn't be that shocking.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) Nobody remembers that First game ever televised on Big Ten Network. What a gem.
  21. I was rooting for TN because I want Michigan to be the only team that can feel the pain of losing to App St
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 2, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) I'd rather them get rid of Royal and just go younger but thats wishful thinking with his contract and the org thinking they can actually do something this season. Hmm.. why does that sound familiar? I also dont think he stays healthy. I'd rather go young.
  23. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 1, 2016 -> 10:08 PM) So Butch Jones is still overrated and their QB and offense sucks. How is this team ranked in the top 10? They won't be for long.
