  1. It seemed like whenever we faced him we always had him in trouble and he would get himself out of it with a good pitch. It always made him seem flukey as hell, but maybe thats just how he is?
  2. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) Sleepyhead. With this and him saying he'd love to resign with the Yanks in the offseason, his Cubs tenure is off to a pretty funny start. Yeah, really really terrible PR so far
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:56 PM) Jason Heyward.....Bad. JB Shuck>Heyward
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) It wouldn't be just to trade him. It would be to take advantage of a imbalanced market place on a guy that isn't really in your plans anyway. Honestly, I still expect him to self-destruct at any time. Yep. Deal him while he actually has value, we got the guy for nothing.
  5. James Franklin has shoved his foot so far down this throat this week that its going to be hard to rip it out.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) I know it doesn't matter but it will sway the Sox decision (see: 2015 season; granted we didn't have as much to sell. Granted I guess we had Samardizja, Robertson, Duke). They could find themselves within 5 games or so and make the dumb decision to buy or keep things the same and it would be a mistake.
  7. I would rather take a chance on Gonzalez than Andrew Cashner if I was a team looking.
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2016 -> 12:43 AM) Exciting but some sloppy play by the Sox. Eaton's been having a recent run of sloppy fielding but then again Melky robbed Bryant of a HR with a great catch. They blew the lead again in the 9th but then again that just set up the 3rd straight walk off win. So we create a mess then fix it with a little magic. So the victory song is " Dirty Magic" by the Offspring Eaton is slightly injured right now and its hurting him a bit on the base paths and in the field. He wont come out or show it though, but his foot is hurting him.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) You ask any Cub fan, expert or the like who follow this team (besides fathom) the biggest worry for them is their pen. There really arent any other teams that I would say definitely has a stronger rotation for a playoff series than the Cubs. Hey, I hope they made the wrong move but to me this s*** is what puts them over the top more than any other move they could have made. I admit if I were a Cub fan I would have rather gotten a guy like Miller rather than a rental but for this year Chapman is going to be what you need in the playoffs. "Any Cubs fan" are usually morons. They've had a very lock down back of the pen this year, as good as almost anyone. Their rotation was a major cause of their recent slide. They could have easily used that package for a impact starter with a longer term contract and moved one of their current starters into middle relief where they actually are weak.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) I dont understand how people could say the Cubs didnt need bullpen help. Having him in the closer slot knocks everyone else down a notch in their pen like having Rondon as a set-up man now. This will help their bullpen immensely, not to mention Chapman will be electric and everything you need in a playoff series. Because with the lead after the 7th inning the Cubs have been extremely good.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) To me, should have gone after controllable starting pitching. Never thought late inning relief was a major concern for them. This feels like just as much keeping him away from the other NL contenders. Wade Davis is a better example of a closer that this package would make sense for. Exactly. It has me wondering if this is all they are doing or will they continue to empty out their system to go for it this one year.
  12. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) Yankees just raked the Cubs over the coals with the return they are getting. I don't care if you do have excess prospects. You still have to be careful when dealing. Yep, they could have gotten a really good starter for that package, instead of late inning relief they dont really need.
  13. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) That's true and it's the biggest reason this trade isn't so egregious. Still, you never know when you'll wish you had that depth back and I don't think this was the best use of the Cubs' resources. They've lost 1 game in the ninth inning, I believe 3 in the 8th where they were leading. Late inning relief wasnt something they REALLY needed IMO. At least not so much they gave up what they did.
  14. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) When your major league talent is so young and your farm system is deep, you can afford to overpay for these kinds of players. A player they really dont need though...
  15. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) That's what their surplus of talent is for, idk if Chapman was the guy to spend it on but man Yanks must be happy campers right now. They got more back than they gave up for him in the first place. Thats a huge win.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) Did he really say that? Thats more than ironic, thats bordering on political speak. Eh, he still left it open that "people need second chances." I still think its funny.
  17. It is pretty ironic as well that Theo basically said he would never acquire a guy like Chapman because of his "moral compass"
  18. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) If that's the package for a .5 year of Chapman, it makes me skeptical that we can get full value for 3.5 years of Sale. It would take at least 5 top prospects, and two of those would have to be no doubter MLB impact players.
  19. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Who will be available to sign for just money in 3 months... I always can appreciate a front office really going for it, but it's QUITE a price for Chapman. Its more than the Yanks gave up to get him. Seems really out of character for the Cubs, especially when a closer isnt really what they need.
  20. The Cubs have lost one game leading going into the 9th. Chapman is not what they need and they are giving up a ton. Seems like a panic move.
  21. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Urban is pulling an insane class. Dear God. May pull in at least 3 more 5 stars...
  22. Our team is a clown show from the very top on down. It's embarrassing.
  23. The Sox better produce or trade for an actual professional hitter soon or this team is dead for a few years.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) It's the Dan Jennings mop up show, starring Dan Jennings and the White Sox! How long does it go? Nobody knows! 2 batters, maybe 3
