Woods acquires Jupiter Island property for $38 million Associated Press click this JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. -- Tiger Woods has completed a $38 million purchase of 10 acres of residential property stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway. The transaction marks the largest single residential sale in Martin County history. Woods' new property includes a 13,207-square-foot home, several guest houses and two docks, perhaps with enough space for his 155-foot yacht. Records show the main, two-story home includes eight bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, and another house has six bedrooms and seven baths. The property was sold to three companies, each with a common Orlando address that belongs to ETW Corp., the licensing agent for Woods. He and his father, Earl, are listed as two of the company's principals. Jupiter Island, a waterfront strip north of Palm Beach considered among the nation's wealthiest enclaves, is home to golfers Greg Norman and Nick Price and singers Celine Dion and Alan Jackson. Woods, who turned 30 last month, has a home in Orlando recently assessed at $2.5 million. He and his wife, Elin, also own property in California, Sweden and Jackson, W

Frank Thomas signs with Oakland Athletics
RockRaines replied to OfficerKarkovice's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good signing by them IMO. They need a little more pop in the lineup, and this is a good risk to take. Any reports on the size/length of the contract? -
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) Buehrle is better than ANY one of the above mentioned pitchers. Wow, there are a lot of Cy Young award winners in that post.

bears honing in on defense in the draft?
RockRaines replied to thedoctor's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) today's sun-times article sure makes it sound that way. paraphrasing, angelo thinks the offense will improve and is comfortable with what benson, bradley and currie will bring to the table next year. he's not against the idea of moving peanut to safety (somewhere, greg blache is smiling). he is leaning toward drafting defense with the first pick, and most picks. to back this up, the writer of the story (mike mulligan) was on the score this afternoon and said he expected the bears to select either a defensive back or linebacker (bobby carpenter, please) with their first pick. mully is a pretty astute observer of the bears and i do put stock in what he says. anyhow, who are the candidates for the bears at db and lb where they pick? of course, there's always the possibility of this being one of angelo's much ballyhooed "smokescreens" (lol) but it's fodder for talk anyway. Doc, I really would like Carpenter on the bears. Of course im a homer when it comes to him, but I really think that he brings the versatility that we need. He was underrated for OSU this year as he not only can rush the passer, but he can drop into coverage as well. -
QUOTE(heirdog @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) What? Why didn't anybody tell me? Man, I got almost 180 posts and I just found out that this was an internet message board. I'm a relative newbie, over 30 (just barely) and probably wouldn't respond well to pedagogy so if you jump on to this board (kid or adult), you have to be able to learn in a trial by fire manner or else recoil back to the video game chat boards. And everything said on here to the newbie (Buehrle the ace) has been pretty benign so I'm not sure that Rock et al need to be shackled on this one...on this one! There have been other times that "Mr. Inexplicably Infallible" could use a good Singapore-style caning. Hey, I'll take the heat. But I get to pick out the cane.

Wow Zoom, I totally agree with you on a lot of points. Cards-I feel like the team is just losing player after player, and they really are starting to age a bit. Of course no team with Pujols is really out of it, but I think they are due for an off season. Brewers-I think they have alot of potential to overtake the cubs and the stros this year, a second place finish in that division would be a win for them on its own. Fielder is going to be a monster. A's-I still think that their offense could come around a bit and Big Frank may add some pop t that lineup. I really like swisher and have a man crush on chavez. Also their pitching is underrated IMO. My AL bust was the Red Sox however. I think that they made alot of spotty moves this offseason and they lack a true lead off hitter. Alot of their core players are gone and I still think their pitching is sub par. Becket is not the ACE they need.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) This isn't just for you Rock, but a point of contention for a lot of people lately. He's got a good point. Lots of kids who join this site are just that, kids. Some aren't ready for the level of knowledge that is at their fingertips here because they are used to arguing with people their own age. Even if you think it is juvenile, just ignore it. If the post is that bad it will quickly get buried by better material. If you are really concerned about the quality of material on the board, try to teach the kid to bring his level of knowledge up, instead of padding your own egos at his expense. Realize that these kids today are the fans of tomorrow. We should be trying to educate and make fans, and not chase people away, just to make you feel better than someone else. Grow up a little and be proactive. Take it to the next level and take the content of the board into your own hands. I understand its not directed at me personally. But alot of older posters (including admins) have been posting like this since the day I joined here. One of the major upsides of the people who have been here awhile is that they can take heat, criticism, praise etc, and also dish out a share of their own. This is the reason that they stay here, and others have come and gone. Also for every newbie that i jump on, I send out a PM to someone helping them on the board. Also, people need to learn that this is an internet message board, and try not to take things so seriously.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) I think it was based on Crisp's CF stats this year which was a .955 FP 2.37 RF .778 ZR Or maybe 2004 where his RF was 2.32 and his ZR was .865 while playing CF. For his range factor in 2005 he would have been behind (In the AL): J Reed 3.05 Nook Logan 2.93 Johnny Damon 2.93 David Dejesus 2.80 matos 2.77 rowand 2.57 Sizemore 2.47 Williams 2.42 Wells 2.41 In Zone rating he would have been 9th with his stats from 2004 and not even on the charts this year. Someone explain to me how this makes him the best defensive Cf'er? Crisp in CF stats. We KNOW he is not that good in CF.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) So that is justification enough for you to be rude to a newbie? Weren't you a newbie once? Have you ever been wrong about something? Besides, that is only your opinion. You know what they say about opinions .... Jesus man, who peed in your cheerios? I was quoting Kal BTW.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) Let's see. The guy that started this thread has grand total of 7, yes 7, posts. He couldn't be creating too much of a body work that would offend too many people. Instead of bashing the newbie, why don't you politely point out the error of his ways. I don't know, maybe an email with posting suggestions would work. But no. Put the guy down to build yourself up. It's the American way. Carry on. Mark Buehrle is not an ace.

seriously, how many of these people really think they have talent? They showed a montage of the freaks and geeks that showed up, and I was so surprised. So many no talent ass clowns doing magic tricks try out for American Idol. You have to wait in line for days, then embarrass yourself on tv, and thats what you want to do in life? Unbelievable.

How early in the morn are we starting at the bar?

QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) In all seriousness what is happening to this board? Is it youth? boredom, please Rock tell me. I don't post alot anymore, I know Jim won't post much more if at all, the emotion that these players are like friends is idiotic. Buehrle is signed through 2007. Does everyone here need 5 year stability. What if this guy gets hurt this year. Lets all relax and let the Whitesox build another championship. Rock, help me understand, also let me know if you won the $1000. HAH Im still waiting for my check from that guy. Maybe if you came around more things would improve, sadly probably not the case. Im hoping that maybe if we move half of these arguments to the bar during soxfest, we could possibly weed out the bad seeds.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) No,no,no, I'm just saying I do believe he's a very good defensive outfielder no matter what those stats say, but obviously that's jmo. Agreed, he is top 3 in the AL from what I see. But RNW is claiming he would be the top CF in the AL based on his numbers this year. Which are the same as PODS, and when he played CF, he didnt play it well.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) But you will admit, there is a big difference in patrolling LF and patrolling CF. A great defensive LF does not translate to a great CF. 2005 stats LF C Crisp .987 FPCT 2.23 RF .906 ZR PODS .989 FPCT 2.23 RF .904 ZR
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) Coco is a pretty damn good defensive outfielder no matter what his zone rating says. So you think he is the best defensive CF'er in the AL as well?
-
Oh, and Crisp and PODS had almost Identical ZR this year and the same RF while playing left field.. I guess PODS would have been the best CF'er in the league as well.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) based on what? QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) his season last year, translated into the centerfield position, would have netted him as the best centerfielder in the american league. whoa whoa whoa, best CF in what way? Defensively? I hope you arent suggesting offensively. Translated stats dont really mean much. Wasnt pods one of the best LF'ers defensively last year? If you moved him to CF he wouldnt be nearly as effective.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 09:56 PM) From what I have heard/seen, Anderson looks to have a few steps on Rowand, and maybe it was just me, but was Rowand that good of a baserunner to begin with? First of all, Rowand is terrible baserunner. He makes alot of mistakes. If you are talking about pure speed, Anderson has him beat.

QUOTE(MarkBuehrle_TheAce @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) i am very concerned with Mark Buehrle's Contract Situation, i fear if we dont resign him soon, we may loose him to the cards, and that would b a HUGE loss! i think i would cry a little, hes an amazing lefty (reincarnation of McDowell, only on the left side) You are on a roll, just when I thought you couldnt come up with a better idea than Konerko+thome=world series, here comes this. You are a genius my friend.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) NY has nothing Indiana wants. Indiana's trying to unload bad contracts, not take on additional ones. So no Artest for Eddy Curry reports?
