New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
RockRaines replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) Nah, it's done now. 2006 will be a very telling year for Contreras and Prior...Jose might revert to pre All Star break 2005 form and Prior might get injured yet again. If those happen, they both need to be shipped out of town ASAP. I would say each has about a 50/50 chance to happen. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Anchorman is one of those things that get funnier the more times you watch. Like the Cubs. hahahaha. Anchorman always comes out on top however. I would give the cubs more of a Captain Ron Rating -

QUOTE(heirdog @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Why should I? If everyone did their research as well as you, we could have an "Ask RockRaines" website instead of Soxtalk. Contreras at Prior's age was dominating Cuba so you can put the "potential" BS back into your crack pipe. I'm not talking age and potential (I conceded that in my reply as I know Baltimore wants to win later not now). Contreras was dominant during the second half and post season and you can put up whatever stats you want to state who was better. I observed Contreras second half last year as I did Prior's '03 season and to me, Contreras was the better pitcher. I again point you to my "arguably" claim because I understand and want to convey that it is "my" opinion and NOT fact. You, on the other hand, can find another source to vent your pent up frustrations upon. I figured that the stats would show you that Prior was more dominant, during the whole season and the 2nd half. If we are throwing out stats and just cpmparing our "feelings" on players, then I have no answer for you. But that website does sound like a pretty good idea. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) I believe they are arguing who has more value to the O's. I was saying that Prior has more value, when someone said that Contreras's year was better than Prior's best year (2003). Which is not the case anyway. Even so, I would rather have prior who is not a one year rental and is younger. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) True, but in the more immediate future, we still have Owens and Nanita. Considering all the aspects of both players, I would think that Sweeney may have the most offensive potential that we will need in the future, especially if he ever develops his power. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) Your cons can be argued against IMO. I don't know about Uribe being the best defensive SS...that has some homer-juice to it, but you did say arguably so it doesn't matter. Sweeney wasn't OF ready for 2006 anyway. And another Pro is that it doesnt raise salary much at all, if any, for 2006. Outfield depth in the future is a concern as Dye and PODS contracts are up about the time we are looking for minor league help IMO. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) No knowledge? Learn how to read? You sure are one seriously condescending SOB. You're the genius who is acting like it's ridiculous to compare to the two. Maybe I should CAPITALIZE some RANDOM words in my sentences like you do so I LOOK more RIGHT. Note to self: When losing an argument go as far off topic as possible. Ok i got it. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Yeah, ERA is a good one. How different is Contreras' 2.96 in the second half from Prior's 2.43 in 2003? What's the average run differential between the AL and NL? Lets compare their 2nd halves then. Contreras 2.96 Prior 1.52 -

QUOTE(heirdog @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) I don't disagree with you but in terms of who is the better pitcher, I think Contreras with what he showed at the end of last year is better than what Prior showed in his lone healthy stretch in 2003. Adam, read. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Well lets debate the third week in August 2002. :headshake Seriously, you need to learn to read, before you jumped in this argument with no knowledge, it was brought up by someone other than me that Count was better this year than prior in 2003. That was the comparison, not the players now, but these two years in comparison. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) What, you guys are cherry picking years, I cant cherry pick stats? The walks bother me, but strikeouts I could care less about because I dont play fantasy baseball and wins have as much to do with run support and defense as pitching. Nobody is cherry picking years, not even me. The comparison was brought up that Contreras in 2005 was better than Prior is his best year (2003). This is why im telling you to read posts before you argue. So therefore the comparison of stats would be Prior 2003 vs Count 2005. Not exactly cherry picking. So if k's and wins mean nothing to you, how about ERA?? Or WHIP. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) Compare full seasons? Prior isnt going to do much from the DL. You have to compare the body of work, and injuries are part of that for Prior. Yes, unfortunatley the debate was him in 2003. Be gone. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) It's really not as bad of a suggestion as you're making it out to be. Jose looked great in the 2nd half and playoffs... How can anyone say that Contreras of 2005 was better than Prior of 2003. Seriously, stop cherry picking stats. Prior's whole season was better, his 2nd half was better, his POSTSEASON stats were better. Just take off the homer hat and see clearly. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) Since he pitches in the NL Mark Prior gets a free inning a game and still allowed more hits in '03 than Contreras did in '05 (entire season). So, thats all you got? More hits? Come on, compare full seasons, no comparison. Compare 2nd halves Prior was 10-1 with a 1.52 walking ONLY 16 whilst K-ing 95 -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) What the hell do you think I was replying to? And that's JUST your opinion. How is that my opinion. I posted statistics that were ALL in favor of Mark Prior. In 2003, he was better than Contreras was this year, even if you isolate only the 2nd half, Prior still has better numbers. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) 11-2 2.96 in the second half (AL, not NL) and 3-1 3.09 in the playoffs is hardly chopped liver. Yes, no s*** he is good. Read the post before you respond. His claim was that the count was better last year than Prior in 2003. Which is NOT true. -

Prior in 2003 was 18-6 with a 2.43 ERA and 245 k's 50 bb's this was the counts best year and he was 15-7 3.61 154 k's 75 bb's post all star he had a 2.96 ERA. Not even as good as Priors whole season. Seriously, you need to research your claims before you type them. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Hey maybe I am wrong, who knows. I am a bit sour on it just based on things that happened this week. One of the "sources" he quoted was a fan webboard. It kind of puts a shroud of illegitamacy when a site quotes a fan webboard as a source. Yeah, im not sure who said it was a legit site, but its pretty much rotoworld without sources. -

QUOTE(heirdog @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) Sounds similar to the Cubs type deal that was being offered so I would think for the package the Sox are giving up, Bedard would be included as well. Cubs offer was like Prior, Neifi, Patterson and Rich Hill. We would give up arguably the better "ace" in Contreras, a better younger SS in Uribe over Neifi, a better OF prospect in Sweeney over Patterson and maybe a solid lefty like Lumsden or Liotta for Tejada and Bedard. The Cubs deal went nowhere but it was a start, now that its been upgraded with Sox players it might happen. I would give up Count, Uribe, Sweeney and either Liotta or Lumsden as long as we got both Tejada and Bedard. No BMac in the deal!!!!! If I was the O's Prior would be of greater value to me than Contreras -

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) Again, this is off of MLB Trade Rumors. But, the O's propsed Count, Uribe, Sweeney and a top pitching prospect for Tejada. Top pitching prospect? Uh no. Lance Broadway or Liotta is the only ones I would think they would want, with him AND Sweeney, no freakin way. Count, Uribe and Sweeney I would do however.
