  1. Well one team with a need for an innings eating starter, who has the money to re-sign Garland would be the LAAAAA Angels. Their top starter was injured, and they could really use a starter who could go over 200 innings. That could be Vaz, or Garland. And they have the money for both, and the prospects for us.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) "It's a Jabronism Korey Patterson. Because he strikes out a lot." Officially out from behind the curtain. Good for you for finally admitting it. I was about to say the same thingl. NSBB misses you Jab
  3. So.... you are saying 7th inning cotts/polite 8th inning Lidge, 9th Jenks?? Jesus..
  4. wow, I wish I could have that 5 minutes back.
  5. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Well I don't mind that at all, but most teams won't go for 6 since it's so hard to find 4 really good pitchers. Personally I also think it works if you have a dominant rotation like the White Sox. If you're the Pittsburgh Pirates, you're asking for more losses. Also, as a sidenote, 20 game winners will be fewer and far between. Yeah, but get your mind off s***ty teams for a second. Think about our rotation and how we could benefit from using the 6 man to begin the year. 1.WBC arms may be tired 2.More chance for preparation between starts 3. More rest early on 4. Rested starters going into dog days of summer after break. 5. Could then trade a starter at deadline for bat etc
  6. heres an article on it http://www.purebaseball.com/viewpoint/viewpoint062700.asp
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Doubtful simply because good teams are struggling to find #4's. I wouldn't mind us having 6 starters though and I wouldn't mind going with a 6 man rotation. It will keep our guys way rested for a strong run in the playoffs. Thats what im saying, we start kicking ass with each arm getting an additional day to prepare, then EVERYONE tries to get a 6 man rotation. Im just trying to say, whos to say we cant have 6 starters? Maybe its more efficient that way? Everyone is saying, THEY HAVE TO TRADE ONE OF THEIR SP's NOW...Says who? Lets f em all and go with a deadly 6 man rotation, then cut it down at the all star break.
  8. Thats one thing I have to keep remembering in my head when these moves go down, no matter what I think of the player before he comes here, Ozzie will straighten his ass out one way or another. He will have his way, he is the king of the Castle, and he wont let anyone f that up for him.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) I agree with your 2nd point(Ozzie), but I don't think we're maxed out in terms of payroll. As long as we keep winning, I think our maxed out payroll would be at 110 million. I meant this year
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Rowand and Rock, I understand that, but this guy is arguing that the Sox should be more like the Yankees. Now I see where he is coming from with the winning aspect of it and I know KW would never put the chemistry in jeopardy, but I want the Sox to be the Sox not the Yankees. Yeah, but it will never happen, its just not in the cards. Our payroll is pretty much maxed out at this point. And im not worried about this anyway. Kenny and Ozzie wouldnt let that happen. Ozzie is the true leader of this team, and if anyone gets in his way, we will ship em to a crappy team in the NL central. The yankees dont do that.
  11. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) It's just hard to have 6 guys that are that good. Most teams have trouble getting even 5. You are basically trading starts from your 1-5 guys every time you start your 6th so he better be pretty damn good. Yeah, but we have that, and maybe it will be the new thing, some sort of rotating rotation, like the 46 defense, it will revolutionize and dominate the sport....
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Think about, I know what you're saying and understand what you're coming from but personally, I would not want to mimic the Yankees. I would rather have a team that battled to the end and won a World Series old school style than have a team with no chemistry, a bunch of superstars, and a lot of big ego's. The Yankees are not a "team" like the Sox are. They are a bunch of individuals. And getting back to the minor leagues, the Yankees' have a pretty-much non-existant one. Well, our payroll wont let us become that kind of a team, so you dont have to worry about that. We will never have a bunch of superstars, because we just cant afford it. We are relegated to finding guys with the correct fit, and thats all. So you can rest easy my friend.
  13. Heres a thought. Who determined that a 5 man rotation was best? Who decided that 5 men was the be all end all set up for starting rotations in baseball? Why not 6? Maybe 6 man rotation will turn into the "new" thing in baseball.
  14. QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) Huh? This statement sort of contradicts itself. Unless by "s***" you mean "helping the homeless", "giving you money" or "turning Coke into wine". Then I agree. They haven't done any of those three. But if by "s***" you mean "winning", then I disagree because of two reasons: 1. Your sentence becomes horribly s***ty, grammar-wise. 2. You just said "they might be winning".
  15. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) This trade sucks. Kenny messed up big time.
  16. your sig is a little against regs isnt it? BTW, we are never going to be the yankees, KW brought in thome who is a good guy, and fits the clubhouse mold. He is keeping the backbone of the team, he is making moves to LOWER payroll in the future, not double it. We are far from being a large market team, in attitude, and financially.
  17. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) Remember, his good stats were in the National League. Anything in the mid-3's in that league becomes a 4+ ERA in the AL with the DH. And I haven't compared Arizona to the Cell, but I'm sure our ballpark isn't going to help his stats. He gives up a LOT of long balls. 68 in 2 years?? Is that right?? Personally, I'm not sold yet. Looks alot like the scouting report on Contreras huh? Lacks confidence, needs to have repeatable delivery...etc etc
  18. 2004 Season It was a tale of two halves for Javier Vazquez in his first year with the Yankees after coming over from Montreal. He was solid, if unspectacular, before the All-Star break, winning 10 games with an ERA of 3.56. Then came the miserable second half. A post-break 6.92 ERA and 4-5 record relegated him to a long relief role during most of the postseason. Pitching Vazquez has a repertoire that consists of a fastball, slider, changeup and curveball. His fastball can reach 94 MPH, but he has a proclivity to overthrow, negatively affecting his command. A deceptive changeup thrown with outstanding arm action all but neutralizes any lefthanded advantage and many scouts believe it to be his most effective pitch. His curveball is a quality third pitch, but problems with mechanics frequently leave Vazquez hanging it on the inner third. In light of early career overuse, it is imperative that Vazquez find an efficient, repeatable delivery. Defense Vazquez adroitly patrols the vicinity where he works. Nimble to the ball, he makes plays other pitchers would not. When it comes to stopping the running game, there are few righthanders who do it any better. His three pickoffs were more than the two stolen bases he gave up all season. When Torii Hunter stole second off him on August 17, it broke a streak of 239 innings and 34 games without giving up a stolen base. 2005 Outlook There have been rumors the Yankees might look to trade Vazquez for someone more New York tested. Some even wondered if Vazquez was throwing with an injured shoulder. An MRI conducted in October showed no structural damage, and may have been a ploy by management to ease any health doubts for possible suitors. Vazquez is signed through 2007, and the Yankees would be wise to give him a little more time to figure things out. Understanding the need for better mechanics, without becoming the dreaded mechanical monster, is a tightrope Vazquez must walk. 19. I think one of the main things we need to do is think of teams that really need starting pitching, and what we could use from them.
  20. QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) any sports colum write up links out yet? i wanna see what FARRY-OTTIE says about this one haha brantley? haha anyone, i wanna get an "experts" take. Stark was on ESPN 1000 in the morning. He said he LOVED the trade.
  21. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) The A's sure seem to have a MONOPOLY on players like that Bradley. It's one PARCHEESI of a deal. I heard they were looking at one of the Parker Brothers in return.
  22. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) I once hit a guy in the face with spaghetti and an Italian dude ate him. Its no laughing matter. Sorry, that was dumb. B for the effort though
  23. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Out of f***ing line. Yet I am not surprised. Too early for jokes?
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I only knew about the recent complaining. If he's otherwise had a history of being an actual team player, then I do feel a lot better about the possibility. Hes known for being one of the most competitive players out there.
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) And I am sure no one will be trying to sign any of those pitchers, or that no teams are losing any pitchers that they will need to replace or anything. OK try this one on for size. With the exceptions of post strike years, when was the last time free agents contracts got smaller one year vs the next one? Who said anything about contracts getting smaller, if you read my posts, Garland will not be one of the top pitchers out there. He wont make as much money as the elite or top three arms on the market, because only a certain amount of teams are willing to overpay for arms. Thats all.
