QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) When Garland came up he was younger, had less experience, and stats not as impressive as McCarthy's. How was he more major league ready? Because nobody seems to be checking their facts these days.

hmmmmm Vaz and Ozzie

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) We should trade for Neifi Perez then. I see him talking to the Cubs pitchers a lot. wow, nice try, but really, more of a wasted post than anything, sorry.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Don't give me crap from some ESPN guy. So many people complain about ESPN except when it's to their benefit in an argument. ummm, I dont believe he works for ESPN.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) I'm pretty sure he's comparing the hype around these prospects. It seems as if most White Sox fans already have their prospects in the big leagues doing big things. So far, none have panned out in some time. Hype? Im comparing players, and so was the guy in the BA chat, he is an educated baseball man, bringing hype into the discussion is pointless for arguments sake.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Yup. Joe Borchard was a legitimate stud too. Borchard wasnt half the player that Young is. Young's EBH and doubles numbers are just about the best we have ever seen. Not to mention his sb's and defense. Please, read up a little on the guy before you compare players.

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Hu...?? He can't even hold a conversation with 95% of the team and staff. Good grief.. Oh how I wish Crede had caught that damn ball. :headshake Yes leader-club house with spanish speaking, and by example on the field. The guy is ALWAYS at the mound with the pitcher, ALWAYS taking control in the field, pop ups, dp's whatever, he is the best SS i have seen in awhile in the sox uniform. Its so closed minded to criticize a guys language skills, and not consider his actual leadership qualitities. Because, speaking with current players, the guy is a great presence. Thanks.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) How about you print me a list of the contracts that people have been getting in the free agent market the last two seasons and you explain to me how Garland won't get a better deal than the great majority of them? The market this year is different from one that will feature as many top level pitchers as next year.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) Prospects around here are like a backup QB in football. Everybody wants to see them, and when they come in, everybody waits for the next guy. Unless Young was the bonafide, can't miss, superstar in the making that I've never heard him described as outside of here, I have absolutely no problem giving him up. From espn BA chat (outside of here) Deege (Champaign): Aaron, who do you see starting in center for the White Sox next season between Jerry Owens and Brian Anderson? SportsNation Aaron Fitt: I'm as big a Jerry Owens fan as you'll find, and his year at Birmingham in 2005 was very encouraging, particularly after he skipped a level. But that job will belong to Anderson next year -- at least until Chris Young takes it away in 2007 or '08. Chris Young is a legitimate stud in waiting -- he's got all the tools and tremendous makeup to boot. Owens probably profiles as a solid fourth OF.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) Wasn't Jeremy Reed supposed to be a HOF player by now? I mean it seemed like it if you talk to most "knowledgeable" Sox fans(not saying you). If Chris Young turns into Mike Cameron, it won't bother me much at all. If he turns into a Magglio Ordonez with Mike Cameron defense, then I'll say we lost the trade depending on what Vazquez does. Kenny has won it all, he went to sleep, and decided the next morning he liked it so much he wanted to do it all over again. He wont ever be the hitter that Maggs was, but he is alot better of a player than Reed was. I would have rather traded Anderson instead of young, but its too late now. Im just worried about our bullpen at this point. We have a closer with a screw in his arm, one lefty, A guy with a messed up back, and Polite. Bullpen strength is neccessary for this team to win.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) The Underground tells me it's $5M coming to the Sox from Arizona, which IMO is why the Dbacks landed Chris Young. Lets all hope Brian Anderson is as good as promised.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Weren't you one of the guys calling him a jizzmopper? Anyway, Tavarez is available. Hasegawa is a FA. Isn't Eddie Guardado a FA? I thought they declined the option. Ehem-thats Gas-caino to you. And hes an every other year pitcher, he was due for a good one. With that said, I really hope that we can solidify the pen. Looks like Garland is on his way out of town, ok. Guess we will see where the chemistry goes onthis team next year.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) I'll wait to pass and further judgement until Kenny's plan is finished in its entirety. I realize more is coming. This was just awful tough to stomach when I look at our CF situation of the future and the upper-tier free agent starting pitching available after the 2006 season. As for my "fandom," we all know I still adore my belov'ed White Sox. That's not changing. Kenny is far more the maverick than I had him pegged for. As always: i will agree the same, but I really really, didnt want to unload Chris Young, AZ really found a Gem with that one.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) Rock you will be surprised at what's available for relief pitchers. My guess is the groundwork has already been laid and they've got some things lined up. Don't forget the non tender date is around the corner too. IMO nothing to worry about on Dec. 14. Anything availabe as good as VIz could be next year? What about A LHP? Im skeptical that KW is just trying to be daring because last year it worked. IM glad Quick is back from his one-year vacation from the board.
-
I dont think Addy was talking about not being a fan of the team, I think he was saying his confidence level in KW's moves. I like the pickup of another arm, but at what cost? Seriously I thought that Chris Young was as untouchable a prospect as we had. He was the Mike Cameron of 2007 to me. If this makes way for another trade, so be it, but at this point, I was happier with our team before the trade. Our bullpen depth is something that we need to look at, and there is not much available on the market right now.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) You had me...and you lost me. I'm nauseous. Hand to God: I'm actually nauseous. I'm off the wagon, Kenny. You now have to make me a believer. No support on this move. You can count me in on that same boat.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Unless Garland breaks his neck, I'd put money on it. Can you please list the FA pitchers next year? Please explain how Garland would be the best on that list, thanks
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) Crappers. I think it's safe to say that after this year, HE GAWN! I liked Garland too. Is Scott Boras' little brother his agent or something? Garland was our best pitcher this year, I dont want to see him go. EVen on the FA market I think he makes less than Vazquez.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) Good one Tony!
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Which is why I don't think this happens. Unless Garland goes. And even then, I doubt it. I can't think the payroll is going to $100M plus. egg-zactly.
-
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Holy s***, If I beleived in hell.. I would think it just froze over.. I agree 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000% Twice in one year?? Damn
-
QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) How limited is the payroll really? Under 95 million for sure.
-
I would take Julio off their hands.
-
Maybe they can give us a reliever in that package? Secondly, I would rather include Crede over Uribe, because Crede most likely wont re-up with us, and the O's def wanted to get Mora out of the 3B position. But please Kenny, stop trading away our farm system!! You already gave away our best arm, now our best hitter, please stop.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) Uribe is not even close to half the player that Tejada is. It's not even close, and I like Uribe. The Carpetbomber is on now... Player to player, theres no comparison, but value to value, there is. We have limited payroll, we would have to give up one of our young pitchers and maybe deplete our minor league system even more. I would rather not.
