  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) Quit giving Ozzie all the credit for Garland, thats a lot of BS. Check Garland's numbers with Ozzie last year and Manuel the year before. Garland finally got his act together between the ears, it had nothing to do with Ozzie leaving him in to get lit up. If you still insist Ozzie is responsible for Garland's turnaround, then tell me what did he do to Marte? Why not give Ozzie the credit? Garland gained extreme amounts of confidence under Ozzie. Cotts did as well. I will keep giving him credit for almost everything this successful season. You know why? He is the manager. He helped construct this team, he helped go in the right direction. He has helped develop young players, he has helped revive older players. He has put this "3rd place team" in the position to win 96 games.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) I want a guy to come up and get a hit. Blum was our 5th best option in that situation last night. The guy has never been a very good ph. Good for your opinion. I trust Ozzie's judgement in that situation. I think there may have been better options. But ozzie knows more about baseball than you do. he has played longer, knows the team better, and goes on that. In fact, if he chose to pinch hit Garland in that situation, he would still know more about baseball than you.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) Again, I'm not one of the Friends of Gload on this site, but he had a pretty damn good year last season with the Sox. Frankly, if this argument was about last night, he was the last person I would want in that situation. He is a notorius first ball swinger, and with the bases loaded, you want to at least try and work the count.
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) I said in the game thread, the 4 guys in the line-up I would be looking to replace are Rowand, Crede, Everett, and Pods PODS? Your first half MVP?? Everyone was slurping this guy until this slide. Who is your lead off hitter than you are bring in then? I love how quickly everyone can turn on this team, when you were all singing their praises as the best white sox team ever in the first half. Boy, I'd hate to be your friends, one time I would let you down and you would abandon me.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) If you had this year's pitching with the previous season's offenses, you'd have a team capable of winning the World Series. And who was the major component of bring in this pitching. And developing Jon Garland instead of yanking him early al la Jerry Manuel. Ozzie did. KW ever said that Ozzie brought up the pitching early last year. It was him headmanning the whole change. getting us a lead off hitter, making the fielding better, and getting us pitching. Now you wish he didnt do that, well welcome to 2004 and 2003 over and over again.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) Ozzie's better suited for the NL than the AL. Smallball is a much better approach in a pitcher's park with no DH. Maybe we should just try and get our old team back and see how that fares?
  7. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) As you know, I have been in this school of thought for a while now. Oz isn't getting the job done. You guys are incredible morons. The fact that he took this team, who everyone agreed wasnt going to win the division. And put them in the position to win 96 or more games, is amazing. He was up for manager of the year honors until our bats fell asleep. This team has great pitching and below avg hitting. We are ranked last or near last in almost every hitting category, yet ozzie found a way to make these guys play. He has totally turned this org in a new direction and ITS WORKING. Im ashamed of all of you.
  8. here we go, another 1, 2, 3 ninth for us. Game over, we needed one run in the 8th at least. Blum was not the right move, but either was AJ
  9. apparently you are too lazy to use your brain cells as well.
  10. QUOTE(bigredrudy @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Thus far BA does not think all that much of the sox farm system. The Sox have very few players in their top 20's. I know most of the talent is at Birmingham but even so I am surprised at what I have seen so far. Since we know Charlotte won't have more than one player in the top 20, even a good showing in the Southern League won't make up for this poor showing. And I think Birmingham will have only 3 in the top 20. this is the third bulls*** thread you have started today. What is your deal?
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Emphasis on "too"... I enjoy my occasional rocking out to Guns & Roses like anyone else. But I when I started to hear "November Rain" everyday on the drive home. Thats a little too much for me... Honestly, I think the change has to do with the change of 104.3 which has been just about the longest running radio station in chicago. There was an open market, and 94.7 took it.
  12. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) We miss Carl's bat in a big, big way. I say let him hit himself out of this funk. It doesnt seem to be working. When was the last time the guy played a full season without along break. His stats arent equal to most 3 hitters, and frankly he needs to sit the f down.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Agreed...it got too Guns and Rosesey for me...The Zone never really had an identity. At first they were Q101 the 2nd, then they went hard rock, then they went 80's-90's rock and now they gone... when was being guns n rosey a bad thing????
  14. QUOTE(bigredrudy @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) I could not believe it when I saw AJ hit against Walker. I thought surely Ozuna would hit for AJ. And here is why. Including AJ's AB against Walker last night walker has the following numbers.Against lefthanders his BA is .231-his slugging percentage is.298 and his OBP is .273. Against righthanders he has a .274 BA-a .417 slugging percentage And a .340 OBP.In addition his walk and strikeout totals are as follows:against lefthanders he has 4 walks and 24 strikeouts-agains righthanders he has 9 walks and 6 strikeouts. He has 104 ABs against lefthanders and 84 ABs gainst righthanders. Ozuna is hitting .305 against lefthanders and in 95 official ABs he has struck out only 11 times. It is easy to see that more than likely Ozuna would make contact against Walker and with the infield in he could probably slap one through. Ozzie must have had a gut feeling because his non-move was definitely against the percentages. In fact Ozuna has pinch hit for AJ before and he got a double. by the way AJ was only hitting.226 against lefthanders. I have a gut feeling that this non move could prove costly. you blew it for regurgitating this argument for the 15th time today. Was it a bad move, yes. Did it deserve some ciritcism last night, yes. Do we have a game today, yes. Get over it, lets win tonight.
  15. QUOTE(IndplsSoxFan @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) What would happen if Cle, Bos, & NYY finished with the same record. How does MLB settle who's in and who's out? A 1 game playoff for the AL east, & then the loser play another 1 game playoff for the wildcard?? Assuming that the Sox win the central! 1 game playoff for the east, then 1 game playoff for the WC.
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) dont blow his argument Rock. sorry, didnt mean to totally kill the thread. We have a two game lead on these folks. Gaging that one of the two NY or Bos will lose 2 games during the weekend. We really just need to win one more game than them until then to assure us the WC. Being that Cle is also under some pressure now, im guessing this race will be close to the very end.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) Illinois Highway system is bulls***. From my house to the border of Wisconsin, it takes me 5 f***ing tolls. Once I get into Wisconsin, not 1 all the way up into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. welcome to civilization. How do you think they get money to pay for those highways that take direct routes to your destinations.
  18. actually 3 of the 4 make it. 2 division winners and a wildcard. Only one team is left out.
  19. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Since I almost never take the tollway, it's worth the extra 40 cents per toll to keep the state police from being able to monitor my speed. They cant monitor your speed with radar? Is this your conspiracy theory. IPASS doesnt cost anything, it takes money straight off your debit or credit card. Using it saves you money, even if you only use the tolls once in awhile, it still costs your nothing unless you through the tolls. Sounds like being stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn to me.
  20. I dont understand why Anderson or Borchard cant take a shot as hitting in Carls spot. It cant hurt much worse than what he is doing right now.
  21. how about double tolls is you dont have one? If thats not a reason, then I dont know what is.
  22. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) Wisconsin v. OSU For those of us who remember, I think OSU is luckier they do not play Wisconsin this year. And: Calhoun is better than Davis, the O-line is better than last year. It would be a good game, I was much more afraid of Michigan than OSU. Thats just the truth. SB what is all this comparing last year's team this this year's team?? OSU is ALOT better this year. I dont understand going back to old teams. Well since out record is better against Wisco all time, that means that we are better now.
  23. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) The point being that being 62nd in the nation in passing efficiency is good enough when you run Wisconsin's style and have Calhoun in your backfield. You can't expect him to be John Elway. He has as many TD's thrown as Drew Tate, Northwestern's QB, and more than Troy Smith. OSU is also a running team, and Smith has more running td's. Wisco is a running team, just like many other teams. The key is is their defense good enough for ball control and can they pass the ball if they arent? Michigan is weak and I think Wisco will find better competition in the upcoming weeks. We shall see. I wish we would play Wisco this year, I would love to see Hawk, Carp, Schlegel take on Calhoun.
  24. Rodney Harrison out for year.Linky\
  25. BTW, you are so lucky that Wisco doesnt play OSU this year. With that running attack stopped dead, Wisco would have to throw the ball, wow that would get ugly.
