  1. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) Michigan is on the verge of a 2 game losing streak now. Cause its just a matter of time till they get drilled by MSU next week. OSU....The best team in the Big 10. post fixed
  2. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) Madison is also geographically closer to Chicago than Illinois. Illinois is in a real rough spot for football. Unless they can put together some bowl seasons with lower end talent, they are always going to be a middle of the road school. But if Zook can set up a system and get the team above .500 I think he can start to get some legitimate recruits. Otherwise Illinois is just carved up between the top Big 10 football programs. Michigan, OSU, also take from the area. SB Mich, OSU, Iowa, Wisco, Purdue, ND, all poach chicago like crazy. even my alma Miami takes players. They have a long road.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Maybe it would be a good business move. Whether it would be a good basebll move, I don't think so. The Sox haven't exactly been a free agent mecca. Treating guys like Dye s***ty [trading him while at his "peak value", while he has done everything and more than what was expected of him and been a pro's pro all year], I don't think it would bode well for other FA's who might be looking to come to the Sox. Dye is respected through out the league, and has a really affordable contract. So in the short term could Anderson outpeform Dye? Maybe. Maybe not. But it could have consequences down the line, if Dye got his walking papers. Even though his contract or performance weren't the biggest issues You have to face the facts that baseball is a business. If these "relationships" were such a huge deal, then how is our release of Shingo perceived? Or how about when we let Frank, and Konerko walk? The fact is, the players on your team are the only opinions that matter. Trading Dye right now is a smart move, Anderson is ready, and we could use the money to get a bigger FA to play 1B or the middle IF. We may also need another bullpen arm. These are pieces of the puzzle that mean more than what someone thinks of you team. Every team makes moves like this, its a business, not high school.
  4. QUOTE(Balance @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) That woman was clearly mentally ill. It has nothing to do with the public education system, Juggs. But it has EVERYTHING to do with the pack of parenting these days. I am in my mid twenties and I still recall my parents taking a large part in my life. I was an active child and I spent more time outdoors than indoors and my parents did as well. My #1 role models are my parents over anyone I could ever list. That is not the case nowadays, parents are just the biological creators of kids, and the relatinship stops there. There needs to be more involvement in your children's lives.
  5. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) He's completing 58% of his passes and has a 2:1 ratio of TD:INT, which is good enough for what Wisconsin needs. If he throws for 130-150 yards in a game, Wisconsin fans are likely going to be happy with the result of the game. Here's a list of passing efficiency, Chad Henne, Troy Smith, Justin Zwick, and John Stocco's numbers are included. Can you guess who's who? 133.95 127.39 126.73 123.82 ... Troy Smith John Stocco Chad Henne Justin Zwick well stocco is eighth in the big ten in passer rating, so im not sure what you are trying to convey. The only one he is beating is Henne. Zwick isnt a starter so why include him?
  6. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) To go away from the Sox for a bit, the effective cutter is what has made Mariano Rivera one of the most effective closers over the last 7-8 years. On the rare occasions he doesn't have it, he gets shelled. I concur with others, BTW, excellent question. Essentially its the only pitch Rivera has. Everyone knows its coming, they wait for it, and still can hit it. Its also the reason Esteban improved so drastically.
  7. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Or maybe you're just getting old? Seriously, though, I think how old someone appears to you is definitely related to your own age. To me, I can definitely tell which of my students are 18 as opposed to my 22 year old ones. And I can still accurately pinpoint highschooler's age. (Except, possibly I think I generally guess they're younger than they actually are.) I dont know about that. When I was in HS, overalls were the rage with girls, now its hipphuggers and thongs.
  8. If only Stocco could throw the ball.......
  9. QUOTE(Bias @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) What should the lineup be? Me say Pods Goocher RowDog Paulie AJ Dye Anderson Crede Uribe I would be concerned about Paulie and AJ being back 2 back due to lack of speed, but I prefer to break up the righties by having him @ 5 instead of 6.
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Esp as he's been a bargain, been very productive and prob. still will be next yr. This is the most productive and injury free year he has had since 2000, what makes you think that he can continue after having a peak season. Law of the norm says he will revert back to his true form. This is his peak value. I think trading him would be a good business move.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) He has been our best hitter with RISP this year, and that's the definiton of the 3 hole when you hit behind Iguchi and Pods. I just worry about the amount of times he swings and misses/strikes out being a problem sitting in front of Konerko. He couldnt be much worse than Carl at this point. Look no further than out game against the dodgers at home this year where we won it with small ball. A-row is perfect for that spot in the order.
  12. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) Smith now but i have a feeling you will be seeing Zwick soon. Also i don't think Smith is a great QB. He is a very good running back playing QB sort of like Michael Vick is. Yeah, I guess those 4 td's he had this sat would warrant a QB change. Watch the games will ya?
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) Good luck with that. I could see 8, but you guys wont' touch 9. I didn't think you guys played Purdue, but I saw you mentioning them a few times and than assumed you guys did (Purdue has a cake schedule IIRC). And MSU is the best team in the Big 10 along with OSU. IF MSU takes care of business next week, your gonna have one hell of a game in two weeks when MSU and OSU play for in my mind the Big 10 title. Wisco is undefeated as well, and they dont play mich or OSU.
  14. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) They had to because those f***ing idiot students threw it in the Wabash. I was at a northwestern game where they threw them off the top of the stadium. It was pretty cool. Now some schools have designed goalposts that collapse right away so that students dont get hurt. Im in the other school of thought-make them deadly, put some barbed wire on it. Electrify those puppies.
  15. BTW, there is no reason to take A-row out of the 3 spot in the order. He will thrive there.
  16. Rowand triples his fun at the No. 3 spot in order By Mark Gonzales Tribune staff reporter September 25, 2005, 10:51 PM CDT Aaron Rowand has hit in six different spots in the White Sox's batting order, so it was no shock when manager Ozzie Guillen moved him to No. 3 Sunday. Rowand might have found himself a temporary spot after his RBI triple in the Sox's three-run third-inning sparked a 4-1 win over Minnesota. Rowand, who also drew a walk in the first inning, took some stress off starter Mark Buehrle with his big hit, which preceded Paul Konerko's two-run homer. It was Konerko's 38th homer but his first since Sept. 9 against the Angels. "When you can put it together like that, it makes it easier and less stressful to go out there and have to scratch for runs," Rowand said. Order restored General manager Ken Williams will accompany the Sox on their final trip to Detroit and Cleveland but won't be serving as a policeman after designated hitter Carl Everett and manager Ozzie Guillen disagreed over Everett's demotion from third to sixth in the batting order with one week left in the season. "It's a clubhouse matter, and Ozzie has handled it," Williams said. "Obviously, I'm here to support [Guillen] and keep team unity." Williams backed Guillen's decision to send home left-hander Damaso Marte two weeks ago after Marte arrived late but said: "I pick and choose my spots. Was this a problem?" Guillen, who now sits in the middle of the dugout bench and away from the on-deck circle where he was closer to fans, said he explained his reasoning to Everett. "I just do what is best for the team and best for the ballplayers to give their best performance," Guillen said. Team first Despite a 9-3 postseason record, Orlando Hernandez realizes his shaky second half doesn't merit a spot in the rotation should the Sox reach the playoffs. "I'm thinking of my team, that's it," said Hernandez, pointing to his 2-7 second-half record. "I'm never thinking as an individual. I stay here to help my team, that's it. I'm ready to pitch, start, relieve, whatever." Hernandez, who was replaced in the rotation by rookie Brandon McCarthy, confirmed he has been nagged by a sore right knee. He said he felt fine after throwing a bullpen session Sunday. A farewell John Rooney, who announced his final regular-season home game as a member of the Sox's radio broadcasting crew for 18 seasons, threw the ceremonial first pitch.
  17. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) yeah block o always has some nice looking chicks....did you go to school there? or are you just a fan? Fan since birth, fam is from there. I went to miami. Half my fam went to OSU, the other half Miami.
  18. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) you live in c-bus? nope, made the trip this saturday from chi. Sat in A-deck in the block O section. Lots of nice lookin females.
  19. This just follows up my notion of kinds these days looking and acting way older than they are. I am not the oldest of the old, but when I was that age, girls and guys werent acting and dressing like they are now. A 14 year old girl nowadays looks almost 20, its hard to tell the difference. Their sexual activity has advanced as well. I think alot of the changes have to do with parenting and being involved in your childs life as a role model. If they dont have you to look up to, they will find someone else, a peer, TV etc. Where oh where have all the parents gone?
  20. I think I sat next to those broads on sat.
  21. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Yeah, my logic is that they will be emotional for the MSU game, and manage to put together a good game to "save" the season. Then they will have a letdown against Minnesota with a hell of a running game. Iowa doesn't have the ground attack to beat Michigan if they focus solely on Tate. Thats my logic anyways. Its surprising because IOWA's run game looked good until this weekend. I was at the Bucks game, and we flat out dominated their O-line and made Tate look uncomfortable. Plus iowa's d-line is terrible. They rely soley on their backers to pick up the slack. OSU gave away 3 td's on 2 fumbles and a penalty. the game was alot more lopsided than people think.
  22. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Yep, something along those lines. Here's how I see the rest of their schedule shaping up. Sat., Oct. 1 at Michigan State* suprising win Sat., Oct. 8 Minnesota* (HC) loss Sat., Oct. 15 Penn State* win Sat., Oct. 22 at Iowa* win Sat., Oct. 29 at Northwestern* win Sat., Nov. 12 Indiana* win Sat., Nov. 19 Ohio State* loss 7-4 I think that they will lose to MSU, beat Minn, lose to IOWA. And end up with 5 losses. but you never know.
  23. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Not many teams in the nation will be able to stop Calhoun. Wisconsin's line is big and powerful, and eventually you will be worn down. Don't discount UM's D because of that alone. Michigan will always have the talent, with several back to back top 5 recruiting classes to build on. People just have to start stepping up on defense, they have the talent, they just have to find the desire. I believe UM will finally click pretty soon and while not a normal UM season, will end up in a nice bowl game again. Gator Bowl?
  24. This is exactly why we should trade Dye. His value has peaked.
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) One BIG difference between the stats you quoted and the stats 1549 quoted... All of yours are individual stats. 1549 posted all teamstats. Really? I didnt even notice that. Michigan racked up 12 wins before 1912. Those dont mean much in my book. Most of those indiv stats were racked up from Woody Hayes and beyond. Regardless, Michigan sucks, and Ann Arbor is a whore.
