QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Im still pissed Ozzie left Freddy in for that final inning. All of the momentum swung in that inning, Cliffy and Luis gave us a 2 inning reprieve, but the momentum had already shifted. I like how Ozzie trusts his pitchers, but sometimes he has to call it like it is being shown, not how he wants to see it. Last night Freddy had no business being in the game past the 4th inning, much less the 5th. you are correct. i was saying the same things to my TV. It was obvious he had nothing going for him last night. And Ozzie went with his family, which is the incorrect decision.

New Safety for the Bears
RockRaines replied to GoodAsGould's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Know what, Keith? You took the words right outta my mouth. I mean, nearly the exact sentence I was going to write. I think as a nickle-back, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone with his talent on nearly any team around the league. But, as you've stated, I really don't like Zoom-the corner. I think his style of play is more suited for a kickoff-punt return type player with some additional coverage available at the nickle package. Really, I just think he's awfully raw to be a starting corner. Who knows? Maybe he'll really come on this year and impress the heck out of me. Wouldn't be the first time a Bears DB was able to do that. This will be a very important year regarding his development and really, just those gutsy-feels and reads for the ball. I like Vasher as the #2 DB, just because he seems to turn it up a notch when needed. Plus the guy is an interception machine. -
New Safety for the Bears

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) I agree regarding Zoom, when healthy I can deal with him as the #2 though. Also, Todd Johnson :puke Nobody with their full name on their jersey is a good player to me -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) point taken....only thing is they play KC 7 more times and tampa 3 more....their other 6 are against us. if we dont at minimum split...you can kiss the division good bye and say hello to the WC hopefully We played the easy teams in the first half mostly, and Cleveland played them in the second half. Its who wins the division games that will take the crown. We need to win this series, need to beat MIn, then cle, and we are home free.

If anyone else didnt sense a blown save last night, you werent watching the game. I called it before Hermy got out there. It has become obvious he is not the same pitcher as he was early. The team really played pretty good last night. Some defensive blunders, but 9 runs for our offense is good. Not only that, but we were getting some clutch 2 out hits.
-
I dont understand. We lost last night, but it wasnt like the team folded and got goose-egged. We put up some runs, Freddy looked terrible. And its clear that Hermy is not the answer as our closer with his back like that. Bobby would have closed that one out no problem. WE go out today, get a win. And from here out, Hermy gets rest.

why the hell can we give borchard or anderson a shot instead of slumpy carl. WTF Ozzie, he isnt going to break out of it.

Who's your game 1 starter for the playoffs?
RockRaines replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) So, you won't be buying playoff tix or looking into it before they clinch? Guess he will be buying inflated ones off ebay. My pick for the game one start is looking better every day IMO. Last night, 6th inning, 2k's back to back, man that was a different pitcher. Fastball, fastball, fastball, curve, fastball, fork -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) maybe because people don't have time to spend all day looking at every post of every thread And you seemed to like the idea of trading JC, since you put Bmac and Washburn in the 4 and 5 spots. Correct? No, that was in response to IF we traded him for Overbay in that scenario. Read my posts in other threads. I actually want to keep JC because I think he has the best potential. Not only that, but I have said I want to start him in the first game of the playoffs.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) IMO, you still let the veteran pitcher try and work out the kinks. S olong as he's healthy, chances are he'll correct himself. The postseason is the key. The sox still have to get there. But success in the playoffs is what the sox are looking for. Having a big game pitcher, who has thrived under those extreme pressure situations, and throwing him under the bus, without giving him every chance to succeed [though I think the sox are getting close to exhausting their patience w/ him] isn't wise. The sox don't have a roster loaded w/ players with such important playoff experience where they can toss aside a guy like El Duque. I love Bmac. But seriously, will he do better playing in front of a packed house on the road? It's hard to see. el duque will be needed by the sox El Duque has been horrid in the playoffs since 2000. I have no confidence in him in that situation. HE WAS a big game pitcher.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Trade the hottest SP down the stretch who finally seems to have harnessed his potential, for Washburn who likely will get a 3, 4 yr deal for close to $24 mill? The sox should and probably will try to sign Garland to a 3 yr deal. Not Washburn. And the sox can use the money to get AJ signed to a similar deal. I didnt say I wanted ot trade JC, this was in reaction to the previous post mentioning the theory, I was reacting in the same mindset. Jeez, what happened to people reading threads and not the msot recent post :banghead :banghead :banghead

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) In the AL (I mentioned every team in the AL) he is 11th in Zone Rating, 8th in CS% and 6th in Games Played out of 11 eligible catchers. He is second (not in a good way) in PB. I like him and think he is good for the organization but feel he is average and can be resigned for a reasonable amount he has a personality that may turn teams off. Sorry if you feel differently but that is all I am saying. thanks for comparing 2 pretty worthless stats for me. Yes he can be resigned for a reasonable cost, but thats a good thing. He is above and beyond what we had had behind the plate for many years, and is one of the best signal callers in the game. We are lucky to have him.

The Bears have found their future QB
RockRaines replied to White Sox Josh's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) then you realize that there is a rather large sample size then. He was OC/QB coach for 4 years. yes I realize that, but to compare the two, we have no sampe size. This is a different team than the other Turner had before. And Shea never really had a QB after the 3rd game. All of the ones he used were cut this year. Im just sayin...I think turner is way better. -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I could think of two reasons--El duque and bmac. this was based on the previous comment of trading contreras and my position has always been of getting rid of El Puke, he is done. My rotation would be Mark John Wash Freddy BMAC

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) identifying people who don't want to be in frats as "outcasts" is the very definition of a "high school mentality." I was linking the statement about not wanting to be with the majority, it wasnt negative in any way to people who dont want to be Greek. I have many friend who were not Greek, and I have nothing against them. They in turn, had nothing against Greeks. Knowledge is key, I rest my case
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Sure, there are a few business/econ/whatever frats that serve a purpose. The rest of em are filled with drunk assholes who live in filth and brag about how many girls they've got with. Where did i say i was above them? Wow, nice generalization. Thinking that way about fraternities shows that you know nothing about them. I guess you never get drunk? You never have fun with your friends? If you read my post, you would see what you dont know about fraternities. I was in one of the largest, especially on YOUR campus, probably one that you hate. Yet i have an entirely different view on the situation, and a different view of you people looking in. If I was to mention what I thought about people who werent in Greek Organizations, would you take kindly to it? I dont think so. Saying negative things about any group of people, is going to make you look ignorant. If someone said that sox fans are all white trash hillbillies that run on the field to attack people. You would be offended because you know better, and you love the sox and what they stand for.
-
QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) i gotta complete disagree with you. besides the fraternity's that actually have a purpose ( ie: business ones, etc), the only reason they are around is so people that feel the need to "have friends" can. Why not join a few clubs and meet people that actually share a common interest with you instead of "brotherhood". The greek system promotes a continuation of the high school mentality where you "have to be in the in crowd". Alot of the disagreement for me at least, is that i don't want to live the frat lifestyle, i rarely drink, etc..... I guess to people that are outcasts it may seem that way. Sorry that you have such a negative view and experience of people in fraternities. Seems that there must be a reason for this in your case, because at my school, I had many friends that were not in my fraternity and were not in any organizations as well. Keep on keepin on I guess, FYI though, "high school mentality" is part of being in a sociall setting, it is going to exist in your next job, your next social scene, your kids soccer games, PTA etc etc.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) As of Septmember 14th, my perfect off-season would be to re-sign Paul, let Carl and Frank walk, sign Furcal, move Juan over to 3b, do a package Marte-Duque and Tracy for Overbay, so you platoon Overbay and Paul at 1b/DH. You then go out and sign a swingman, maybe bring Loaiza back, put him in the pen as and as a longman/6th SP, then like you said, bring in a Scott Eyre to give us another LHP. Sorry, dont want to turn this into an off-season thread. there is no reason for us to not go after Washburn as our additional starter.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) These teams have comparable catchers in the AL where there are 14 teams; Cleveland, Minnesota, Boston, New York, California, Oakland, Baltimore, Detroit These that don't Texas, KC, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Toronto Looks average to me. SOooooooo....where is the rest of baseball. I mean its good and all to mention some of the teams with premier catchers. Being, 1st, 4th and 11th in something is not avg, avg is about the 50th percentile. He would have to be about 15-17th to really be avg, in every category. But go ahead and list the teams with premier catchers if that makes you feel like you are correct. AJ is a career 290 hitter with a .331 OBP. He makes less than 3 million a year at this point. He handles his staff better than a majority of the guys you think are better, and has played better defense. s***, Victor has allowed 90 sb's this season for god sakes.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) well, i've met 3 nice frat guys, (out of 7000), and as much as the majority of them i do dislike, i dislike the greek system just as much. nice generalization. If you read any of my post, you would understand that assuming makes an ass out of you.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) You are aware this is Turner's second installment as Chicago Bears OC, right? I do agree with the rest of the post, however. yes addy, I am. -
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:06 PM) lol You cant do any better than that? The people on here who are stereotyping fraternities have never been involved in one. Its the same as outside people thinking that all sox fans are like the Ligues. My fraternity was one of the best groups of people I have ever met, and I have life long friends because of it. When bad things happened in my life, they were always there helping out as much as possible. Losing my house, loved ones, they were the first to call and the first to help. You may think that is hilarious, but I take friendship and brotherhood extremely seriously.
