QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Yes, he has one more year left on his contract and the Sox will keep him around as an insurance policy, just like the Yankees did for a few years. I wouldn't count on him for more than 15 starts though. At this point he can probably give you 125 serviceable innings - that's it during the course of a year. there are teams who would like a serviceable 5th starter. If you dont think that a team would have interest in him in some sort of a way, then you are blinded by our rotation. Last year, when we had a 5th starter rotation, would we have wanted El Duque, you betcha.

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) um, no? Yes, ILL is by far my team in everything, but in football, they are never in the running for a championship. This thread is about what bigtime college football programs do you root for? You don't have to be a major fan of them, but you have to have some favorite of the USC's, michigan's of the world. I don't live and die by a texas win or do i even give it much thought, but they're a fun team to watch and out of all the choices this season, i'd like them to win it. So if you want to go along with that attitude, then everyone in this thread is a bandwagoner. Wow, take a chill pill. Im just wondering why you have to be a fan of a team that is in contention of a championship. Does that mean in other sports you feel the same? I think you need some sort of a connection to a team to be a fan, otherwise, yes you are a bandwagon fan. Its the same reason everyone likes the yankees, red sox, and cubs. They want to be a fan of a team that may win the title.

The Bears have found their future QB
RockRaines replied to White Sox Josh's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Grossman was a 1st round pick. He's in his 3rd NFL season and has started about 6 games. Kyle Orton was drafted in the 4th round, and played his 1st NFL game thoday. Right now, when both healthy, Rex Grossman is the QB of the Chicago Bears. Laughable, absolutley laughable. What makes you think Grossman is our QB of the future? He is done in a bears uniform. The guy has been a complete bust. You can say what you will about injuries, but that is a part of a player. It has become obvious(3 injuries 3 years) that Grossman is a paper QB, and has nothing to contribute in the NFL. Saying he is talented, drafted in the 1st round, big deal. There are plenty of QB's drafted in the first round that dont make it. Leaf, McNown, Smith. Sorry guys, Orton is your QB of the future, and Grossman has probably seen the last of the field for the Bears. Before you use the 4th round defense as why Orton shouldnt be starting: All told, since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, Aikman is one of only four first-round quarterbacks to win a championship with his original team, joining Pittsburgh's Terry Bradshaw, Chicago's Jim McMahon and the Giants' Phil Simms. Late round QB's: Tom Brady (6th), Kurt Warner(FA), Brad Johnson(9th), Marc Bulger(6th), Jake Delhomme (FA), Hasselbeck(6th), Aaron Brooks (4th). Favre wasnt even a first rounder. The draft position means nothing in the NFL as far as the QB position goes. -
QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) I had this discussion earlier, thought it might make a decent thread. We all have our primary teams, our alma maters, etc. But what "big" college football team do you root for? USC, notre dame, michigan, etc.... I'm a closet longhorns fan. IL is a big school. Do you pick another school just cause you want to win? thats sort of being a bandwagon fan isnt it?

Duque is done for the season. BMAC has proven he is a better pitcher, and El Duque hasnt done s*** in the post season since 2000. He is done, and gone after this year. Washed up torn shoulders do not a good pitcher make. BMAC is in there, and he will stay in the rotation until the end of the month.

This is what we have left: KC, Min, Cle, Min, Det, Cle. There is no way that we should have a losing record from here on out. We should take every series from now on.
-
Seriously, what happened to PODS stealing bases, sacraficing the player in to score and playing good defense. This is not the same team that opened this lead in the beginning of the season. They look slow, lethargic, lazy. It looks like they are just waiting for the season to end. If there is a time for us to win its now. Cle has Oakland and we have KC, we need to open up another lead before we take on cleveland so there is no hope of them catching us. Please guys, dont calapse this year.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) So you're saying next year attendace will be near 3 million(give or take 100,000)? I highly doubt that. I think even if the White Sox were to win 2 world series in a row, they wouldn't reach 3 million. you know what, winning brings fans. The bulls were under 500, never drew many fans, and werent that popular. Then sold out for 13 years. it can happen

Juan is such a human cartoon. he credit the movie the fan for educating him about baseball. That movie is a psycho thriller, thats so great.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Exactly...Maggs said the exact truth and maybe that will get their asses in gear. I dont see that happening. Da-meathook, Roidpudge, etc etc. I dont see the character, even their fans are saying they play selfish. Maggs was never one to not play selfish, this is why his stats were so padded. I say F-him he got what he wanted. Guess Burr Ridge doesnt look so bad now huh Maggs???

QUOTE(VAfan @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) We've had this discussion, haven't we? Juan has the stronger arm, but I don't think his range is that great, and Vizquel never makes errors. But I'm also happy we have Juan, so don't nitpick. how is that nitpicking? Omar is a better defender, you said Uribe was. Omar E-8 FPCT-.991 RF-4.59 ZR-.878 Uribe E-14 FPCT-.976 RF-4.63 ZR-.847

it would have been better if it was titled: "You cant focking see that"

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 12:29 PM) Actually this is one of the best things Maggs has ever said. He said all the right things imo and has to be hoping the team gets fired up, plays well down the stretch, and can add another piece or two. Detroit isn't that far off, imo. They do have some quality pitchers. Apparently you havent notice their play. The team is WAYYYYY off. Their attitude is that of our past sox teams. No matter how many bats you add, you are still going to fail. They do not have the core, and are extremely selfish. I dont see detroit doing much in the future.
