    QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) I am pretty sure that as of next year if prices keep going up, I will be using my bike. The problem for me is that the train takes me from Harvard, drops me in Crystal Lake, and then I have a 2-3 mile ride. Not bad, and easy to do. The problem is that right now the train will only be saving me about $40 a month. Now then, I checked that last about a month ago and prices for gas have gone up since then. But I did seriously look into scooters. Problem with them is that few of them (the compact types) don't go over 20 MPH. They also cost a decent amount. Then add into it that we live in the midwest, and in a few months time riding in the elements doesn't really sound like a whole buncha fun. But I agree with you that it is time to find alternatives to driving a car. I might go find me a kiosk and a homeless person. the low end honda and yamaha scotters do up to 60 mph

    QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) Do scooters count? I don't own or ride one, but just seeing what exactly we are talking about. sure, lets include them as well. I need a better way to get around the city and find parking, and my car-jeep and its gas mileage-11mpg is not cutting it.

    I have wanted to buy a bike for a long time. And with living in the city, and the gas prices what they are, I have settled on switching to a motorcycle for most of my travel purposes around my area. I was curious to know what everyone else is riding, and what experiences they can share. I am taking a beginners riding course in two weeks, I am definatley excited.
  5. ok ok, break it up and get back to the nerdery.
  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) We had a similar game in my fraternity. thats where I went pro. Seriously though, washers is better. But this ladder golf thing that everyone is talking about intrigues me.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 08:00 AM) you are NOT funny.
  8. QUOTE(daa84 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) not to mention olivo who now stinks, and reed who hit .253 with 3 homers?? thats why i like trading prospects talk about a freakin steal of a trade for us. I mean, there were so many people who were upset with trading our top prospects, and our starting catcher, and look what it netted us. Freddy has contributed heads and shoulders above those other three guys. Kudos to YOU KW.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) He's got 12 wins, the team has I believe 23 games left...that should give him 4 starts the rest of the year...maybe they could push him up to 5 if they really try and they have off days to shuffle people around. It looks possible...I'm not sure about probable given the team he's pitching for, but it's certainly not yet impossible. too bad for the cubs, his option is kicking in and he is automatically owed 9 million for next year.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) Obviously the crowds for KC have been very weak. It exposes the Sox small relatively small season ticket base. More people should be at the park, but on the other hand, the players shouldn't be commenting on attendance. Its going to be the 4th highest in franchise history. That and the fact that they haven't played all that well when the stadium has been packed should be enough for them not to comment. Fact is, alot of the sox fanbase is families. This is not the worlds largest beer garden, we have constructed our park to be kid friendly, and appeal to families. This is a great idea because it grooms sox fans for the future. But also its one of the first weeks of school, and we are playing the royals following a down month. So many factors will contribute to our low attendance the past few days. So what, we are still going to sell out all weekend.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) While he was hurt for a time...Podsednik's OBP this year is .350. His career OBP is .344. He has had 2 months in his career with an OBP over .400...none since 2003 (although he's at .429 for September. You're assuming that AJP can still be a solid .300 hitter and hit for power at the same time...his power numbers have gone up the last 2 years, but his batting average has hovered in the .270-.280 range. That may be the kind of hitter he is now. During no season in his career has he hit for a ton of power and an above .300 average at the same time. I odnt know about you guys, but I like AJ as the hitter he used to be
  12. nope, but I have 2 on sat that I need to get rid of
  13. merge this with the other thread.
  14. wonder where he got the roids from............
  15. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) SLP is straight up ridiculous this afternoon bananas
  16. QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) i'm not cool enough to be banned i've been banned....twice
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) Oh how I hate the Buckeyes. Dont be jealous.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) Pujols was the last to do it and before him, I don't remember who but it was from the 50's. A-Rod had 142 ABs in '95 which counts as a full season and he only hit 5 HRs that year, so he's not on the list. Only 5 players have accomplished this feat IIRC. ah, there you go. Which, if I am not retarded, that he is a player that doesnt come around very often. I wouldnt trade him for any pitcher. Trade your prospect, trade your other players, but not Tex, he is a stud.
  19. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Rock what game at Camp Randall is that? Is it back from the Rose Bowl days in 2000? NOT camp Randall, it is a much superior stadium....I will give you a hint, it is shaped like a horseshoe... edit, sorry that pic was WAYYYY too big, http://www.slagshouseofstats.com/OSU%20Foo...ftGame22Min.jpg linky.
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) Would Texas have to include a gun and a bag with a $ on it in that deal? Goodness gracious. That would be the steal of the decade. Texiera is only the fifth player in the history of baseball to his 100HR in his first 3 years. sorry Add, I didnt mean to repeat your comments, I didnt see your post.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) If anyone from Texas is available it is Texiera, as they have Adrian Gonzalez waiting in the wings. They have tried to trade their power hitters for pitching in the past, and I could really see a Marte/Contreras for Texiera deal being something that could happen. Not to be utterly obvious, but not many teams would trade a player that gets to 100 hr's in his first three seasons. I believe A-rod and Pujols were the last two to do that. Tex is a perennial star player, and moving him just because there is a prospect "waiting" is just the way that a team turns into a joke.
  22. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 12:23 PM) 3. Go after a solid defensive 3b free agent who can hit for average. Sorry Crede fans. But we need just alittle more pop in our lineup. Blalock would be nice, but he is not worth Contreras, Marte and Sweeney. Any solid 3B free agents in '06? I couldnt disagree more. Blalock is probably the best or second best defensive 3B in the AL. Not to mention his age and his hitting. I think he is almost worth more than what is offered.
  23. Dont forget that Anderson is probably up for good, and there are several players that may make a case to make the team next year. There are several question marks that need to be answered.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) He was terrific against lefties last season. In the world of relievers, it's common for guys to have statistical anomalies once in a while. Look at Viz this year vs lefties compared to last year. Marte will have a lot of value on the trade block. Viz is actually pretty consistent, one bad year, one good year, one bad year, one good year and so on.
