QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) I'd say in a lot of teams eyes, Marte is the same stud he was in '03. He'll have a lot of value in a package deal and could really aid in landing us some offensive help. Even ESPN was quoted saying he is one of the best LH relievers in the game. I personally, would rather have Cotts.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) If you bring back PK, you almost have to trade Contreras for money purposes. I'd like to see KW concentrate on signing PK, Garland, and AJP to multi-year deals. dont forget though, they wont be paying for Frank's large contract.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) Mora makes a lot of errors at 3B and has only been playing that position for 2 years now. Defensively Crede >>> Mora. you are correct, by 6, I think I got caught up in who is the better overall player, but I still would rather have Mora. Mora does have a higher ZR and RF as well.

QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) wouldn't that build KW's legacy... I see no reason to deal any of these guys in the upcoming future, but we are going to have to get rid of some of them due to log jam. Is it possible that when these guys are ready, we will deal Mark or Garland?

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Trading Marte straight up likely won't get you a big impact player. However, adding Marte in a deal with someone like Contreras can definitely help sweeten the deal. There are a ton of teams that are really hurting for a lefty reliever. and not all those teams know that he is garbage against left handed batters.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I'm not talking about price at all. I'm talking about how Uribe is the best defender in the league, Crede is the best 3B in the history of baseball, Pods is the most important offensive player in baseball. Or stuff like Buehrle is the best pitcher in baseball, except he can't beat good teams or that Duque is going to be the greatest playoff pitcher this year. Uribe is NOT the best defensive SS in the league, but he is one of the best at his age. Crede plays borderline GG caliber defense, but in no way is he the best. I would gladly take Blalock, Chavez, Beltre, Mora, A-rod, over crede, and thats in the AL. PODS is important to OUR team, as it should be evident in the winning streak we just hit as he came back. As far as comparable to the league, as a lead-off hitter, I would put him in the top five. And there are teams that would kill for a good plate setter like him, especially the team across town. Buehrle isnt the best pitcher in baseball, but the most reliable and consistent. That is a major factor however in determining who the best is. The fact that you can rely on consistent starts, and quality innings, makes him an extremely conveted asset. Duque hasnt been a great playoff pitcher since 2000, so I dont believe that he is going to be good anyway. I personally think Freddy will be the best pitcher in the playoffs.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) I can understand the season ticket holders, they SHOULD have dibs. So many corporate tix is non sense. Thank god we did, now I can sell most of my first round tickets to pay for the ALCS and the WS tix.

I have been playing cornhole since i was a kid. And now that it is getting more popular with everyone, we have switched back to playing washers, which is not as easy to make, but can be even more fun. Has anyone heard of this ladder golf game?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) That's why I have about 125X more posts here then I do over there. I only post there when a little common sense needs to be infused. Some of them get pretty delusional and someone's gotta try and bring them back down to earth. I think I have 50 posts there, i cant seem to engage in a conversation with anyone over there, it just doesnt take for some reason. Plus this format is A TON easier to use.

Is it possible in a few years to have almost our entire pitching staff comprised of homegrown talent other than Garland? MB, Garland, BMAC, Gio, Liotta? not to mention the other arms that have a shot, Haig, Haeger, Broadway, etc

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) What is so "dark cloud" about pointing out the obvious? Remember: this was before our big streak and rally in September, which is exactly what I said we needed to do. And you think it's appropriate to boot somebody for one post among 600? A couple of friends/Sox fans pointed out this is like the Steve Stone treatment--which, ironically, is postively Cubs-like. And no I'm hardly a doomsayer--but then again, I always loved Sox fans because they're not filled with pie-in-the-sky delusional thinking like the other team's fans. They call 'em like they see 'em. On this board, that post might make you in the majority. Welcome to Soxtalk

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) No hitting in the cage...not an option. You hang out next to the dugout and watch the action. they should offer a couple of swings in the cage. Make a few good solid contact hits and call it a day. You wouldnt last for more than 20 swings anyway.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) We've had plenty of prospects that were supposed to be something special, and they never panned out. Was Jenks in our minor league system for even a season? Cotts? Plenty of our players get overrated on this board, but you can make the argument that enough of us underrate them, too. But some here think that Rowand is the greatest CF in baseball, or that Crede is one of the better 3B's in baseball and that his glove is second to none. Milk, i hate to do this, but I need some backup to our overrating. Crede, I can see, because his O is so terrible. But I think we see that fielding is also important, but so far with our winning streak, its nice to not have an automatic out in the lineup, therefor I can see the overrated piece in Joe. As far as A-row and Kong, for the price, I cant see them overrated.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Thanks a lot. I think most overrate our players, especially prospects, a lot. Is Pauly overrated of underrated? What else is out there that would make you think he is overvalued? Would you rather have Sexson at a huge price? Im just not sure that there is anything out there for his price. Looking at his numbers this year, his dp's are WAY down from previous years, his OBP is the highest it has been, as well as his SLG%. He is on pace to break his career high in walks, and this is with minimal protection around him. He ranks 4th in the AL in hr's, 9th in SLG, 8th in BB, 10th in OPS. Top ten in the most important hitting categories in the AL. It is going to be hard to find that combo combined with his fielding prowess in the open market for his price. I have switched sides effectively, and there is no reason we shouldnt re-sign Kong.

I know I will have to do that next year for sure. Did youget to hit in the cage, if so, did you get ahold of any of them?
-
Borchard may be a good DH option if he can prove that he can hit at least 270, because of his threat of going deep at any time. But in all likely-hood he will be released. Too bad considering I would like to package him up with marte as well, and possibly El Duque. Worst package ever, but im sure we could get some decent talent.

Borchard wants chance - or else Wednesday, September 7, 2005 By Joe Cowley Staff writerTuesday, Joe Borchard put on a White Sox uniform for the first time this season. The outfielder, the Sox's first-round pick in 2000, couldn't help but wonder whether it would be one of the last times. According to Borchard, if the Sox decide to take him off their 40-man roster during the offseason, he will opt to become a free agent. While Borchard would like to remain with the club that gave him the largest signing bonus for a drafted player in club history ($5.3 million), he knows there doesn't appear to be an outfield opening anytime soon. Jermaine Dye, Scott Podsednik and Aaron Rowand are all signed through next season, and Borchard knows highly touted prospect Brian Anderson has jumped him in the pecking order. In fact, Anderson and relief pitcher Jeff Bajenaru were called up Tuesday, along with Borchard. "I just need to get in that place where I'm needed and wanted," Borchard said. "Where that might be, who knows? When the time comes, that will be more of an issue then. We'll definitely have to go over some things. "It's one of those things where you just have to stumble into the right situation, and it's tough to gauge when that will happen." Borchard struggled during the first month of the season at Triple-A Charlotte. He finished April hitting .150 and was hearing whispers he'd fallen out of favor with the club. "It seemed like the window had been closed for me, but at the same time, I knew there was a lot of time in the season," Borchard said. "I wasn't just going to give up on it, even if some people gave up on me." Borchard decided to stop putting pressure on himself and just have fun. Sure enough, his numbers improved. The switch-hitter finished the season for the Knights hitting .263 with 29 home runs and 67 RBI. "It was big for me because I had such a bad start, and from the middle of May on, I was able to put it behind me and put together my best season to date," Borchard said. Borchard said he's eager to see how things play out. "I'm not sure what the future holds for me here, and I think that is the beauty of it," he said. "It gives me an opportunity to do a number of things." Road to recovery Joe Crede doesn't know if he'll be ready to come off the disabled list by the weekend when he's eligible, but the Sox third baseman feels a lot better about his broken right middle finger than he did last week. Tuesday, Crede took ground balls for the first time in more than a week and was able to make throws from third base to first with a lot less pain. "(Tuesday) was the first day I threw since last week and it went well," Crede said. "I'm a lot further along than I thought I would be. It started off slow, but got the ball out there. I threw it where I wanted to throw it, so the goal was accomplished. I still have some numbness in the tip of the finger, but got through it." Tuesday's session also eased his mind. Crede said late last week he was worried his season could be in jeopardy. "Last week, I was concerned because I couldn't throw it (the ball) where I wanted to and there was a lot of pain," he said. "The last thing you want on your mind is not knowing where the ball is going to go when you let it go." Touch 'em all According to manager Ozzie Guillen, he and his coaching staff had a three-hour meeting with general manager Ken Williams to discuss the plans for rookie pitcher Brandon McCarthy after the right-hander had his second straight impressive outing Monday at Boston. The plan is to use McCarthy out of the bullpen. "This kid is not Roger Clemens, c'mon," Guillen said. "He's just had a couple of great games when we need it." ... Even with closer Dustin Hermanson still battling back problems, Guillen said nothing has changed as far as who'd be working in save situations. "When we have a save opportunity in the right place, Hermanson's going to have the ball," Guillen said. Hermanson earned the save in the Sox's 6-5 win over Kansas City on Tuesday night.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) no he wasn't. He is extremely talented and was a class act however he made bonehead plays that cost Michigan the Notre Dame game, almost cost them the MSU game, could've cost them the Gophers game, and dropped a pass that was right to him on a 4th and 2 against OSU that who knows what could've happened. Trust me you didn't see the real Braylon Edwards last year. He was the best receiver in michigan history, get over the few plays you saw when he was young. blurb: He became the first player in Big Ten history, and ninth nationally, with 1,000-plus receiving yards in three straight seasons. Edwards holds U-M career records in receptions (242), receiving yards (3,432) and 100-yard games (16). He is one touchdown catch shy of tying Carter's U-M career mark of 37.(before the rose bowl) This year, Edwards also set school single-season records for catches and receiving yards. -
dare I say it: Eat s*** Royals, and lots of it, runny even.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) I still don't like him, and I still think his RBI totals are too low for the amount of homers he'll hit, but he does deserve credit for raising that average and being steady for the second half of the season when a lot of other players went into the crapper. I've said before that I only want him to be re-signed if the Sox make it to the WS. Then, we'll have the money to throw around. I'm sticking with that. OT: How do you change the time zone on here? I can't find it. I wish we was an RBI guy like manny or Tejada, but Paulie will keep hitting hr's when there arent men on base, and thats the way he is. Suffice to say, resigning him is a better option than what is out there. It seems to be our offense lives and dies with Paulie, and that should show how important he is.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) no but Avant is more consistent. Braylon Edwards made some spectacular catches yet he also dropped easy passes and made bonehead plays that either cost them the game or almost did. Avant doesn't do that s***. Avant would be a good pick for the Bears next year. Seriously? Lay off the crack. Edwards was the best receiver in Michigan history. And one of the most productive in big ten history. There is no comparison on their roster now, and wont be for awhile. Avant hasnt proven a damn thing, and hasnt done anything yet. Michigan is, as usual, overrated. -
They are on sale right now, on ebay

BTW, if anyone doubts that we should re-sign pauly, I would like to hear your argument against how he is the damn offensive heartbeat of this team
