Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) That is a lifelong goal of mine, to live a few weeks in Mt. Adams. LOVE Mt. Adams, let me see if I remember all the good spots: Mt. Adams Bar and Grill, Blind Lemon (with that cool fireplace outside), Longworth Pavillion (scenery, oh my), Rookwood Pottery, and my personal fave on Oregon Street, City View Tavern for those great cheeseburgers. Another great place not far from there, down the hill into downtown Cincy ... Arnolds Bar and Grill, on 8th St. Oldest bar in Cincinnati, since 1861, great food too. Decent recollection there Jim. Mt Adams bar and grill has possibly my favorite burger in all of cincy. The best part about living there, was that in the last few years Newport right across the river has become a pretty large hot spot, so you can go there for a change as well, and its a short drive. They have a hofbrauhaus there which is awesome. -
QUOTE(infohawk @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) I don't see why they wouldn't. The Cubs organization has no reason to view the Sox as any kind of threat. Even if the Sox won the World Series, Wrigley would continue to sell out. It's not like Cub fans would jump ship for the Sox in droves. I'm sure Hendry would make a trade with the Sox if we had the best offer on the table. They do view the sox as a threat, especially if we make a deep run into the playoffs. So soon you forget that the cubs didnt always sell out. it wasnt that long ago where they had trouble getting anyone to that ballpark. Even now, the stands are beginning to not be as full, the tickets more plentiful, and the Dusty, Hendry, Tribune bashing has started. If they make a move that helps propel the sox over the hump, you bet your ass there will be some backlash. As much as cubs fans project that they are above the sox hating, they arent. And this move, would spurn even more negativity, in an already negative situation. Plus Levine is talking out of his ass.

QUOTE(kane0730 @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) I'd love to get Walker. My ideal line-up VS. RHP Pods Rowand Walker Kong Everett Dye Perz Crede (when healthy) Uribe I think that has a nice balance to it. I like it. PLus walker actually is decent in the lead off role, so hell can hit there is Scotty needs some rest.

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 03:27 AM) by now we are at the Turn. To keep the poker analogy going, we got a decent set of pocket cards, enough to stay in to see the flop. The flop was incredibly good for us but the Turn was disappointing. Hopefully the River has something good in store for us. Hope we arent chasing that damn flush.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) Is Oxford in Cincinnati, Rock? nice, but yeah, pretty damn close. Plus I lived in Mt Adams, which is IN the city -
1. Levine is about as accurate as.... 2. Do you really think the cubs, after having an extremely dissapointing season, would trade their starting 2B to their crosstown rival for their playoff run?

This is the same writer who last year said Ichiro wasnt an elite player while on his way to setting the single season hit record. TIFWIW

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) It occurs to me that the Marlins recently did it. It occurs to me that WHEN they did it, this guy didnt know a single player on that team. WS Champs.

QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) Let's look at the stats. These stats are rankings for left fielders in the AL. Scott is last in homers, 7th in runs scored, 9th in batting average, last in slugging percentage, last in triples, 17th in the RBI (which means there are backup left fielders with more RBI's). So now you tell me if those stats deserve to be an All Star? No they don't. Is Scotty overrated, yes. He does steal a lot of bases, but that means nothing if you don't score. I would take 7 other left fielders in the AL before Scotty. Ramirez, Matsui, Anderson, Crawford, Mench, Crisp, and Stewart. If you are looking for offense, Scotty is not the man. Sorry, but the facts back it up. Podsednik is overrated. Im going to disagree with you on that. And heres why: You cant compare Scotty with other LF'ers. Because that really has nothing to do with the debate and the player that he is. His role on this team is the lead off hitter, and you are comparing him to power hitters who play corner OF positions. You need to compare his stats to other lead-off hitters. That is a much more accurrate comparison. Compare his rankings on stats to the other lead off hitters in the league. Then you can assure an accurate comparison. And I will tell you what, there are a TON of teams that would like Scotty PODS leading off for them.

Seems like A-row hits better when frank is around, anyone notice this?

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) Thanks!! I don't buy being tired from playing somewhere new. Especially when he averaged 30 more games in previous years. I don't really know what "tired" looks like.. but he looks fine to me. Agreed, I think it is a cop out. Saying that the body might have more wear and tear on grass, in america etc etc, I dont buy it, especially with the low number of games he has played compared to his career avg.

alright off to the EL for a ride home. Go Sox

that was a cookie FYI

willie needs to bring his approach from AAA to the big leagues, he looks like a totally different hitter.

-
now that is a great at bat, please dont sit aaron in the 2nd game, he is locked in.
-
Walker needs to instill the fact that if you get a 2 strike count, you should at least see 8 pitches total.
