QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) Since we're now speaking in terms of fruit. You shouldn't have called Iguchi the best fruit then. It was your open ended statement that garnered the response for a reason. Ozzie's a fricken genius. Need any proof look at the OBPs of our #1&2 hitters today. Need more proof, listen pretty much anytime he opens his mouth. Did I hurt your feelings? You just cant compare certain numbers of players in 2 different roles. Its like saying Crede is a better hitter than PODs because his power numbers are better. Iguchi serves a purpose in his role, and his RISP BA is not going to be high. But there is no doubt in my mind that he is the most complete hitter on our team with his ability to hit with power to all fields. If it makes you feel better I can say that Ozzie shouldnt have taken out Iguchi who is a superior hitter to Timo. Better? -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) When did Iguchi become our best hitter? He is batting a WHOPPING 6 points higher than Konerko. What about his clutch stats, you know the thing that Konerko gets bashed so much for? Iguchi's batting ROBUST .237 w/RISP. He strikes out at a higher rate than any of our other hitters. Walks less than Konerko, and hits for less power than Konerko. Tell me again, How is this guy 'our best hitter?' Wow. Way to compare two completely different hitters. The fact that Iguchi bats in the 2-hole should be your first clue to why his RISP and his BA isnt as high as it could be. He moves runners over and hits to the right side to not only score runs, but to better the team's position. He was a power hitter in Japan and has moved into one of the most important roles on the team. If you would like him to become selfish and go for stats im sure he will not only surpass Paulie's robust numbers, but everyone else on the team. Dont take my word for it though, take Ozzies, and KW's and greg walker's. hmmm wonder why ozzie would call Iguchi his MVP?? Probably because he is terrible. Seriously though, the apple compared to the orange.... -
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) There's a reason why the bench players on contenders are almost exclusively major league veterans. Position players do not equal pitchers... BTW, a majority of all players on rosters are veteran's so your sample size is a bit off.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) I would still move Dye to 1B or DH and you now have a spot for Anderson. Unless they resign Konerko, at which point I trade Aaron Rowand for bullpen help or prospects and put Anderson in CF, leaving Dye in RF. Again, you stunt the development of a prospect by sitting them regularly. If he isn't playing almost every day, leave him in AAA. WTF is the point of AAA baseball if it isn't "seasoning for the bigs?" I don't disagree about Young/Owens other than what I have previously said in that Young has the type of talent to force the hand of Kenny Williams to make room for him. You are moving Dye to a position he has played once in this uniform, and single digit times in his career, please. He is also too good defensively to make him a full time DH. Trading your starting CF'er who is potentially a gold-glove hopeful now and in the future to replace him with an unproven prospect is ridiculous. All of your theories line up well with a team that is rebuilding. Unfortunatley we arent in that stage of our organization. Anderson is not going back down to AAA next year, he is up for good. Which is where he belongs. And the door is open for him to play his way into the lineup. If you are going to trade anyone is YOUR scenario its Anderson, because he is the least proven player, and being that we are going to be trying to repeat this year's success, you dont rebuild.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I love Uribe batting 2nd but never, ever like to see Iguichi out of the lineup. Especially on turf -- he played his whole career on astroturf. Yeah, plus he is our best hitter. Its kind of like the decision to PH our worst hitter (timo) for iguchi in a very crucial spot in the game *cough Ozzie cough* -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Timo has a good night & suddenly the team is considered with pitching again :rolly Bring up Owens. I think the Barons are in the playoffs so as soon as that's over with get that kid up here. If he doesn't nothing but PH & PR he still could be a difference maker. His OBP and BA seem to indicate that he could contribute. I think they should have brought him up when PODS went down, but its obviously not going to happen.

Hey Juggs, want to know whats holding up the trade of KGJ? They arent trading him. Its hard to get someone when he is not on the block.

QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) El Duque starts in the playoffs. I'd rather have the count. He is our 4th best pitcher according to the numbers, and his performance lately. As for October, its all about timing. The team that gets hot at the end of the season will win it all. It happens every year. Look at why WC teams in the WS, they get hot. Peaking too soon almost ensures a slump in the playoffs. Did Oakland peak too soon? Is Cle? Are we in our pre-streak slump right now? We will all see.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) This is like trying to explain particle physics to a 2 year old. Oh im sorry Minor League Czar. I didnt know that you knew everything there is to know about player development. Please enlighten us all, in fact, you might want to call a conference on your knowledge. Im sure ALOT of gm's would want to hear why they should be starting every prospect that comes up through the system. The fact that we are both in our 20's and you have (i assume) decent knowledge of baseball, I would think that we could at least explain our POV's in this situation. The fact that your only material for posting seems to try and belittle me, seems to indicate you arent sure how to back up your position. Fact is, many teams being up their prospects to play sparingly and earn their way into the lineup. They may even make several trips back down to the minors first. (see TB) In our team's situation, we have brought up many homegrown players and let them develop into starter material. (see A-row) Even now there are teams that have brought up mid-season AA prospects and have plugged them in sparingly to make sure they become seasoned enough to contribute. For the 2006 WS we have 3 starting Of'ers coming back. Which one of them would you like to displace for BA? His defense and power would be a great asset to have as a 4th OF or a replacement depending on performance or injury. He doesnt need another year in AAA because he has proven he can play at that level. Its time to get him seasoned for the bigs. He is not a lights-out prospect, and very well may not be a surperstar, but he may be able to step into the starting role with some more time up, and some experience. As for Young and Owens, they will have another year in the minors with a possible mid-season call up. Thats my POV, whats yours?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 25, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) I meant Jose Vizcaino. The point is that Chipper Jones, David Bell, Joe Crede, Mark Bellhorn... These aren't stellar defensive players, and Bellhorn isn't as bad defensively as some would think. You are lumping in Crede's defense with those hacks? Crede is a stellar defensive player and thats why he is in the lineup. In fact, his defense is one of the major parts of this first place team. There are other teams (red sox, yankees) who have absolutley no defense at times, but get by because of their high-priced sluggers. We dont have that luxury and therefor get by with our pitching and our defense. Put Bellhorn at 3B and there goes a major strength for the team. He doesnt fit on this roster IMO. There IS a reason that nobody else wants him FWIW.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 11:50 PM) Exactly thats where the argument ends.... You dont bring one of your top prospects up to be a 4th OF.... If he is up he is going to be starting.... anyone knows that who knows anything about minor league prospects. You dont bring up your prospects to be bench warmers. What!!!! Anyone you bring up from the minors has to start? Thats news to me. In fact if he started every day he may be worn out by the break. You have got to be kidding me. Anyone who is anyone huh? He has to play his way into the starting lineup, just like most of our prospects have had to do over the years.

Joe Girardi was in a lifetime slump.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) According to the rules: Players who have played for less than 3 yrs typically do not have to clear ML waivers. Since they usually have option years left they typically don't have to clear OR waivers either. Of course there is the PTBNL rule that pretty much allows any two team to skirt the need for ML waivers. In the case of the Reds & the White Sox they could have completed a Griffey Jr trade making use of future considerations in the form of PTBNLs. They have 6 months to complete that trade. Which means they can assign the PTBNLs after the ML waiver period has expired. Since these two teams are in different leagues the White Sox can use any players they want. Which brings up an interesting question. Can two teams void a trade because they can't agree on future considerations prior to the 6th month deadline? If that's possible then theoretically speaking the Reds could loan us Griffey Jr & get him back later. Since cash can be used in lieu of PTBNLs I'd imagine the Commissioner's office would step in & demand compensation for the Reds. once again
