I dont like Ted Lilly, there is no reason tht I would want him over what is available, unless all we are doing is giving up JC and some prospects. I would be really sad to see a couple of these guys go though.
-
Why not start Carl?? Timo sucks
-
WTF does that mean?
-
Dye is hurt apparently too??????
-
I see he was activated, but thats from Norton being put on the DL
-
If I was Hendry, I would be on the phone with FLA, LA, SF etc to see if I can get one of their arms for one of the "big two" on the cubs.

QUOTE(fry the twinkies @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) She calls them the " b**** sox" on her blog. Why did we ban this guy?
-
I think she is pretty funny though.

If I was the cubs, I would be shopping Wood around all day long. Who wants him?? Come on people. Thats what I would be saying. Give me 3 prospects and we have a deal.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) It'd be nice if they'd take Duque instead. I'm not a fan of either Cuban really, but Contreras is less of an injury threat and is seemingly younger. El Duque is our only real playoff seasoned starter. We are going to need him in the playoffs if we make it.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) I really don't think any of the Dodger pitchers are better than El Duque or Contreras. Derek Lowe isn't good and he has a horrible contract because of two good weeks in the post-season. I would rather have Odalis than the count any day of the week.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) He did it in Philly, too. That's pretty impressive. I wanted him this offseason, too. Maybe KW will make a move. Im just saying, he seems to be a little more consistant than AJ Burnett, and is a pretty good second half player. He also has some playoff experience. He is a lefty and would fit our rotation nicely. I think LA's asking price would be lower, and then would take JC.
-
ESPN insider claims the Odalis Perez is being shopped around. This is a player that I wanted in the offseason, and I still would want now. I think he is better and may cost us less than the already crowded market for AJ and Schmidt. He also threw 7 scoreless innings today signaling that he may indeed be back from his injury.
-
I still think Jason Schmidt is a better option. But picking up AJ and Lowell would benefit us in so many different ways. We would have a stronger rotation, and would have a better bench as well.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) If we were to trade for Burnett, we don't necessarily need to resign him. Say, for example, a deal sent Contreras + Shingo + Sweeney (hypothetical) for Burnett. We now have the six million off the books for next year. Next, the Sox could just offer Burnett arbitration. I assume he'd be a Type A Free Agent, meaning two compensation picks, which would go a long way to replenishing top talent in the farm system. And, if Burnett happens to accept the offered arbitration, then that's fine too -- you still have your five SP's with Buehrle/Garcia/Garland/Burnett/Hernandez, with (hopefully) a more ready Brandon McCarthy battling for the last spot with Hernandez. I've warmed up a little bit on Burnett, so long as the only one going from our major league roster is Contreras (and if they want Harris or Timo, that's fine too). Great thoughts!!!! I didnt even think about the picks. We can throw in Timo for a massage table and call it a done deal.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) Sick of a decent team in 1st place, why exactly? Who knows, it was him that said it.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I'd take Burnett, but I'd much rather have Schmidt. The latter has had much more success. And I'd rather replace El Duque instead of Contreras, but eh. I'll just trust what KW does, as long as that isn't standing pat. Fact is, I want the pitcher who will give me the most quality starts. Thats it. I want the most chance to win. I think Schmidt is the guy, but in all honesty, I think we need a bat too, and maybe lowell will do that? i dont know.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) if he's talking like this, why would we want to spend to get him? i dont disagree that he is awesome, but he doesn't seem to want to be playing baseball. I think he is sick of playing for the (expos).
-
No place to put him, makes the defense worse, too much salary, displacing one of your most important players. EH
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) But the Marlins are never going to trade Castillo anyway, so there's no real point to argue about him. They probably even trade Juan Pierre before Castillo. No kidding, just making a point.
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) I agree with the first part but gooch has been good all season no need to change it You are a fool if you think that Gooch is better than Castillo.
-
One of the most underrated SS in the game. I would easily take him over Uribe, any day of the week. In fact, throw in Castillo.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Hawk commented on something that I speculated for a month or so now. Freddy doesn't seem to take his bullpen and mound warm ups very seriously. Just plays catch with the catcher between innings instead of getting a feel for the conditions and finding his release point. I think the team as a whole played like a bunch of dummies today. I have no doubts that they were looking forward to the Boston series, putting it on cruise control against the Tigers.

Sometimes its going to be a slugfest, and we dont have the players to do that. Pure and simple

Anyone who thinks our pitching alone will get us the WS and playoff wins, needs to look at what teams with good hitting can do to us.
