QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) With the way he hit at the Cell last week, that wouldnt bother me one bit. Their OF is set for the next 10 years with the youth they have there. Delmon Young just had another article about how they need to promote him soon. Huff is going to be on the block, I hope KW has the phone number. I wouldnt mind having him as the back-up for Kong and the Of'ers
-
Stupid ass cubs fans, best part of the terrible article-saying the cubs looked good at all this season, they are terrible!!!!! Another growing sign that even sports writers for ESPN dont know s*** about baseball.

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) i thought i allegedly heard the twins were not interested...maybe its a ploy to raise his value on the open market I heard they werent as well. Doesnt matter, unless they are passing out some BALCO leftovers in the clubhouse, Boone is worthless.
-
Personally, Im under the opinion that if we make a deal with any team from Florida, its going to be for a hitter named Huff.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) I would love Graffy back here. But the simplest solution no yesterdays debacle is to have Ozuna play SS and Uribe play 3rd. Uribe has a better arm, has played third, and Ozuna feels more comfortable at SS. Ozuna is a nice replacment, he is just not a replacement 3rd baseman. This is total speculation on my part and of course wishful thinking. But there was an earlier trade for Zach Day from Washington speculation as part of a 3 way. What if that is to get something to get something. We trade Baj and Willie to the Nats in that 3 way deal and get Zach Day, then turn him and Marte into AJ Burnett. Then we are trading for AJ with Willie, Baj and Marte for the most part. Graffy=stone hands, no thanks, I would rather have a cheap backup with more speed. If I was FLA's GM, I wouldnt take a packagoe of Zach Day and Marte for a top tier starting pitcher. Since they are after the likes of D Cabrera as the fruits of a trade, I dont see our "offerings" even close on the radar.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) Of course! Less money for the teams betterment, more Cubby fans trying to throw attendance in our face, and less money to get better stuff around the Cell! YES! :headshake Shake your head all you want, I go to over 40 games a year, and I dont mind when there are less people there, sorry buddy.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) However, if we could do something like El Duque, Marte, and Anderson/Sweeney, we'd not only be preventing a log jam that would result from acquiring a starter, but also possibly have enough money to resign him. KW would never trade El Duque, he is clutch

hate em, because I like it when the park is almost empty, its easier to get places, easier to get sweet tickets, and the beer line is shorter.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) As others have said, I fail to see how a guy with a 5.11 ERA in a pitcher's park in the NL is an improvement and an ace. Based on his career numbers and his history of being an ACE. He performed well with AJ as his catcher last year as well. Over the last 3 years his BAA has been .218, .200, .202 His K/9 have been 9.52, 9.01, 10.04 his slugging has been below 340 all three years. Those are ACE numbers.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Ask yourself this, Would Podsednik deserve to be in the ASG with his current .289/.363/.337 and 41 SB with the Sox 5 games under .500? No F'n way. You guys are letting the Sox great record cloud your vision. He's 20th out of the 21 qualified LFers in terms of OPS. He's in the middle of the pack in avg, and OBP. -- He's an average at best defensive OFer. Essentially he's a one tool player. He has speed. That's it. That's not an All-Star. Would Konerko and Garland and MB be in the ASG if the sox were in 3rd place with that record? No f-ing way, because they wouldnt have the stats or the rep to be in it either. Your whole post is an example of why people who look at stats only know a certain amount about the game of baseball. Instead of looking at his stats and looking at Lf'ers, why dont you look at him compared to other lead-off hitters? OPS is not really a stat that is totally relevant when looking at a #1 hitter, so that comparison is out. His Avg, OBP and pitches per at bat are much more relevant, including his SB total, which is what is expected of a lead off hitter. I will argue that he is one of the top three lead off hitters in the game. That alone deserves an all-star nod, because he would be one of the top three in his position-#1 hitter. As far as his average at best defensive ability. He may not get the best jumps or have a canon, but how many other LF'ers have the ability to not only bat lead off but play center field as well. He has alot of speed to get to balls that would be out of reach by any standards including our perfect LF'er last year. You can make a case either way to be in and not in, but comparing him to players in a power hitting position in the OF is silly, compare him to other players that are in his type slot, lead off hitters, and then we can make a case.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) I know I wasn't disagreeing that Pods was average defensively. I just found his ZR and RF intereting myself. Agree 100% with you Deep fly to left field in foul territory. Who else would you want running towards the ball?

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) Every game I go to I collect some hair from the best player of that game. By the end of season I will have my full-size White Sox "hair" player to keep me warm at night. I thought I was the only one with a willie harris hair-doll!!!!!!!!!!!
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:47 PM) You'd be excited too if you saw what he was throwing. He has ungodly stuff, and a desire to compete. He showed it with the fist pump and the emotion right after the game. This guy fits in and gives us a ridiculous arm out of the pen. Think of what his stuff will look like following MB or El Duque. Jeez

Considering I have some decent heat, a cutter and a knuckler, maybe some Jamiroqui to confuse everyone?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Don;t you think Beuhrle wants a championship ring? I am 100% sure Buehrle is all for the betterment of the team in their quest for a ring. I doubt this would bother him. He will get his payday. f*** chemistry, AJ flat out isnt worth that much money in the first place. He is not an Ace, not a #2, probably not our #3. So you are going to payu a #4 starter over 10 million a year? might want to cheer for the yankees then.

not into rock. I would come in to Straight outta Compton by NWA

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:49 PM) OMFG! This is the biggest pipe-dream in the history of the universe but if the Sox could somehow do this and have a rotation of: Buehrle Garcia Garland Schmidt Burnett .........:faints: Did they mean the Marlins could get Schmidt, because if it was us, I would Die. That would be the best rotation I have ever seen.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Meh, I'm on the fence. I mean if we could give up what it looks like we would be giving up for Burnett, no doubt I do it, even if it's for a rental, especially with the White Sox supposedly looking heavily at Eddie Guardado. I don't know how he's going to help us much more than Contreras however. I mean, RockRaines had a good point and while I think Burnett is a better pitcher, it's not that bad of a comparison at all folks. Heres my problem with this, this situation is purely a rental. There is no way we will pay AJ 10 million dollars at least in a muti year deal at the end of the season. With that being said, if we are going to trade an essential bullpen arm and our top prospects for a player, if its a rental, it better be the best player in that position. With AJ, I dont feel that way. He has decent numbers in the NL, a pitchers park, with great defense. With his move to the AL, his ERA will most likely rise, not all the hits will stay in the yard, and its possible our defense is about equal. With that being said, the only thing that will remain constant is the walks and pitch count. With a couple of more hr's more runs given up and the same amount of runners on the base paths, I dont think he is the dominant arm to rent for a couple of months. Not to mention that he will be another guy who will take his toll on the bullpen because he doesnt last as deep into games as MB, Garland and Freddy.

And cheers to my finger sprain from mlb.com

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) I think people just get wowed with his "stuff", which of course is why KW traded for Jose Contreras last year when we'd likely be better off with Esteban Loiaza as our 4th starter. After reading all of these posts, I'm not sold on Burnett. 1) He likely won't sign, 2) if he does, he'll cost more than he's worth, thereby undermining team chemistry, 3) Florida will want too many high prospects, and 4) won't take Contreras in the deal, thereby leaving us with 6 starters eating up way too much of the payroll, and 5) he's shown no history of being healthy and pitching a lot of innings. In other words, the return on investment may actually be negative depending on what Florida will demand in return. Great post, and thats what Im worried about, the value. I think the sox, as a smaller market team, need to worry about the value they are getting in a trade. This one, I dont think is beneficial for us to make. The minuses outweight the pluses.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Let me just chime in to point 1 thing out... I believe someone just advised us to make A.J. Burnett the highest paid player on our roster by giving him the $10 million+ that it'll take to sign him as a free agent. Just think about this...you're talking about making a person with a 42-43 career record our highest paid player. You can tell me wins and losses don't matter all you like...but the guy has been on some pretty good teams in Florida, and the best mark he has ever posted is 12-9. He's also 0-2 in the postseason. Giving huge contracts to pitchers with poor career records? How has that worked out for Steinbrenner? Exactly what Im saying, even if our payroll increases, I dont think that we can sign a 3rd or fourth starter as our highest paid player, especially what he is going to tender in the market. This is not a win/win situation for us.
-
we cant afford to re-sign AJ, thats it, bottom line. He will get a deal worth more than Contreras.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) What about AJ Burnett = Carl Pavano? Carl Pavano=overpaid on the DL
