  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Here's the thing though Rock do you really think a 40 year old pitcher would get that much better??? It's seems a bit far fetched, now obviously Clemens isn't the average pitcher but it still seems unlikely. Get better from what?? We would only need him for half a season.
  2. anyone else sorta excited about a possible knuckleballer on the sox someday? Knuckling Down For proof that predicting future major leaguers is hard, just look back to Charlie Haeger’s 2004 season in Bristol. The knuckleballing righthander went 1-6 with a 5.18 earned run average. Although the team around him wasn’t great, Haeger also gave up 70 hits and 41 runs in 57 1/3 innings. One year later, Haeger is a lot closer to Chicago than he is to Bristol. Mastering his unpredictable flutterball, Haeger went 8-2 at Winston-Salem of the Carolina League, winning a promotion to Birmingham of the Southern League. Haeger has won his first two starts in Birmingham, including a 16-4 decision at Carolina on June 27, when he worked seven innings and allowed just one run. The timing couldn’t be better for Haeger, who will turn 23 in September and needed a big season to get on the White Sox’s radar. If he keeps getting hitters out, Haeger could become Chicago’s first knuckleballer since Wilbur Wood was flummoxing batters in the early and mid 1970s. And who could have forecast that a year ago? 3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) I actually agree with milkman here. I'd take Clemens don't get me wrong but I wouldn't give up the world for him. He was an above average pitcher his last 5 or so years in the american league but he wasn't special. I'd still love to have the guy but I wouldn't want to give up the farm for him but that's just me. Doesnt matter what he did then, its what he does NOW, and what he has now is a 1.41 in a hitters park. If you want to sit back and make sure we have some question mark minor leaguers for the next few years, thats you, I for one, would sell the barons for a WS title. Our minor leaguers dont exactly have the best track record coming up anyway, who says they are worth jack s***? Our top prospect just came up and tanked, the track record speaks the trend is that. So you wouldnt trade some serious question marks for the best pitcher in the NL? Thats honestly sad, I want to win now, and this is the team to do it, is there anyone else who wants a WS title? We know from the 85 bears that we can live on it for at least 20 years if not more.
  4. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) He had one major injury 2 years ago and is finally recovered. He is a "southside" type guy, much like pauly is. He is a legit starter, and would only cost about 9-10mil to resign in the offseason, just think of the rotation going from the trading dealine till 2008. What do we get from trading for Clemens and Schimdt other than a rent a player? Clemens won't resign and JR won't pony up the money for a healthy Schimdt..if he ever gets back to form. AJ on the other hand, is a class A stud and would be a steal for 9/10 a year, plus figure the ozzie discount..might get him cheaper. Marky Freddy AJ Jon Jose I take Jose as my number 5 any day of the week. This keeps El DL healthy come playoff time, could help us. Enough with the Russ Ortiz, again for the slow minded, the debate was between Jarret wright and Russ Ortiz.. Please let me know if you think that we should have signed Wright over Ortiz. You still post here?? I thought you were still trying to look up evidence for your other horrible ideas in the offseason. FLA wants a young starter for Aj, one that has a hope of being resigned for less than AJ would, we dont have that to give them, and if you think BMAC fits that role, not quite. We dont have the pieces that Fla wants, rumor has it that they are set on D Cabrera from the O's. Sorry Anthrax, no chance.
  5. wow, he hit that on a terrible swing, he does not look the same at the plate, threw his shoulders open and reached, not good.
  6. i just voted a buttload of times, come on PODS!!!
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) The last two years he spent in the AL his ERA's were 3.91 and 4.35. That's not worth the 14 million we'll have to give him plus the prospects that we'd lose. that was then, this is now, and he has a 1.41 ERA.
  8. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) My point Rock is that they would just move on to another player. Pick one. They are all injured aren't they. Anyone posting numbers like Baj in the minors, let alone AAA, should be at least looked at. Maybe he doesnt have the stuff, and is not a "talked" about arm, but the numbers speak for themselves. s***, Contreras was talked about 2 years ago as the best arm available etc etc, and he didnt pan out at the time. And over the past SEVERAL year nobody has "talked" about Burhele, and we knew he was a stud, and finally they know because of his performance. I put no stock in ESPN's evaluation of talent, and who is "talked" about as far as prospects go. Otherwise Borchard would be an All Star by now. I go on performance at all levels, and Baj has shown he can perform with ease at AAA. The next step is the big show, and I believe he could be a solid reliever. As far as Jenks goes, I liked him when he was draft by the Angels, I liked him when we picked him up, I liked him even more when he was converted to closer, and I think we will all like him when we see his stuff in the next few days. I hope he is up for good, because I think he has the chance to be a real good one.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) Clemens isn't coming here. There's not even a chance. The chance that he comes to the south side of Chicago is rough -24.47%. Yes, it's negative. And besides, I think Clemens is gonna get roughed up back in the AL. Roughed up you say?? So, lets add a run onto his ERA to compensate for the huge bats he will face in the AL. SO we go from 1.41 to 2.41. Wait, he would still have the best ERA on our staff.
  10. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Answer: When will the Sox bring Up GIO?, Why are they not giving GIO a chance! thats what they will say. Not many people call to bring up a single A pitcher who just came off an injury, but maybe in your world they do.
  11. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) I thought that is what Wilder was trying to do, but I will say they tend to overrate there own talent, and then bring them up at the wrong time. I personally don't think they have "blue Chippers" right now. They have some nice prospects that with years of development could contribute later but nobody that will be a blue chipper. I think you are all getting caught up in the prospect over the past couple of years. Yeah the development and the drafting was not great once we dumped half the system in the early part of this decade. I personally think that our best talent resides in single and double A ball. We have several arms down there that would make organizations drool, not to mention alot of good young outfield talent. Our "bust" such as Borchard were all part of the same time table in drafts. The last 2 years I have seen us take a trend towards better scouting and drafting. This should show in our #1 pick this year. He was not HUGELY touted during the college season, and he is no HS phenom. We are going after proven talent, not a flash in the pan. I for one think our system has markedly improved and our BHAM and WS teams make me excited for the future. WIth that said, I say trade em all. I would rather have a WS title than a division champ for the next 5 years.
  12. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) hes too old i dont want him, rather have a younger pitcher hes a rent a player, there is no consideration for the next year.
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Come back to the Yankees and be the Hero that leads them to the playoffs? I cannot think of why Clemens would want to do something like that..... They are going to need more than Clemens to do that, especially with a team who is in that much turmoil, front office and in the dugout.
  14. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) I think Clemens would reject a trade here, he ony wants to go to Boston or New York hmmm, why would he want to go to NY??? They dont look like a team that is guanteed to go to the playoffs so I dont think thats the case, plus Boston supposedly would only pick him up to block the yankees. I dont think that the only places he would go, just because they have the largest payrolls doesnt mean its the case. He wants to go to a contender, and thats us
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) I would give up Baj ... maybe. I suspect the Stros would take no less than Anderson, BMAC and Sweeney or Young.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) Crazy correct, you know it my friend. Agree with you Jim, I think that may be a factor in determining who comes up. Jenks also has big league stuff, and was a high draft pick because of it. He could also be showcasing him to teams who are interested in his stuff. There are multiple factors that went into this decision im positive. Although we do have a knuckleballer down there as well, we could bring him up for a REALLY different look.
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) I think if a move such as this was made, nothing less than a World Series win is expected. This is more than mortgaging the future, Im sincerely doubting that Clemens would make this more than a half season stop. Plus, the guy is making 22 million dollars this year. I am on the fence about this. I agree with this, I think our team is young enough that if we trade some top prospects, our minor league system is rich enough that we can draw from it in a few years. I think this is the year, and this is the team that can contend. Clemens can only help the cause. I know the rotation of Clemens MB Freddy Garland El Duque/Count Looks pretty damn dominant to me. Any day of the week you can have someone throw a gem.
  18. much better title, thanks for the edit admins
  19. Per ESPN White heat? According to the Daily Southtown, Rogers Clemens is one pitcher White Sox GM Ken Williams would put together almost any package to try to acquire. And source has said that Williams will try to see if prying Roger Clemens from Houston is nothing more than a pipe dream. Williams cannot discuss players on other teams because of tampering rules, but such a move would help the Sox and also keep Clemens from the Yankees and Red Sox, two teams that could make a run at Clemens because of their resources. The problem is that Clemens would have to approve a deal to Chicago, which is unlikely. Second, the Astros don't believe they're out of the NL wild-card race. What does everyone think about this?? I know this may cause a few backlashes, but I would be for it. Because I have said it many times, I think this is the year, and we need to do everything we can to try and win it all this year. Clemens is flat out dominating and could really give us the "real" Ace at the top of the rotation.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) Bastards, this should have been Baj's call up. :fyou What more does the guy need to do to get a chance at the bigs? Hopefully he gets included in one of the deadline deals so that he can go somewhere that is willing to give him a real chance. its become extremely obvious that Baj will not pitch for the white sox. They are going to send him elsewhere in a package, im almost sure of it at this point. He deserves a chance, and they wont give it to him.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) I love the way a lot of you have given up on a 21 year old pitcher who pitched last year at AA. Send him down to Birmingham and let him develope properly instead of rushing him along because he was good in spring training. He is our #1 prospect for a reason. He is not a bust (yet). The s*** that has been said tonight about how he sucks and how we should trade him now while some "stupid team might still trade for him" is just pathetic. It's unbelievable how reactionary a lot of you are, it's really f***ing sad. I'm Done. you are right, you are done. The reason it would be ok to trade him this year, is because its THIS year. This might be the only year, and I for one, dont give a s*** about the future, and our unproven prospects. Because prospects dont win you a WS, your big league players do. I am open to trading anyone in our minors, because I want to win NOW, with THIS team.
  22. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) at that point we've given up two top prospects or more for half a season of a pitcher that's potentially worse than the one we've got. potentially worse than what?? BMAC or EL Duque's hurt arm???
  23. Just wanted to come on and say one thing. This is why I feel comfortable trading our prospects for a proven player this year. Because this is exactly what they are, prospects, and long from proven ML players. BMAC may be good in the future, but we need something right now.
  24. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Balta, you're on fire, Bravo! Anyways, you're exactly right. This team is good enough to get to the post season as it is. Mortgaging the future is a mistake at this point. If we can get a great player cheaply, then that's really great and I'd appluad KW for his shrewd GM skills. Otherwise, I think we should be pretty happy with the squad. Would you mortgage the future for a WS title??? I would, in a heartbeat. There comes a time when you get one chance to take it all, and you do what is necessary to go the final step. Look at cubs fans, all they can talk about it what if, what if. I dont want to be content with just making hte playoffs, I want to win it, if it means trading a prospect, then so be it. Because a prospect is just that, someone who is not proven. And there are NO cant-miss prospects. I would trade a future role player for a title any day of the week, hands down.
  25. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) You have no idea if he's better than Vizcaino or not. Baj has never proven he can get ML hitters out. Vizcaino has. didnt you see my disclaimer, everything I say is my opinion. Baj is better, there you go.
