QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) a bene is the cold could help him... and he has been there b4 and done well as an ace. his attitude or character have never come into question, but i am very leary of the move and would rather just keep rollin right along without him. the only butt biter would be if some other team lands him and then he steam rolls us....that is something we don't know right now, but for sure is eatin at KW's What?? I couldnt decifer half of your post. But I think you meant that getting another Ace on the staff couldnt help because he throws a fastball? El Duque is good, but Schmidt is better, in fact he is better than everyone but Mark in my eyes. His career stats speak for themselves, and he is a legit Ace. Adding an Ace to our roster can do nothing but help the team. Our needs our in the bullpen, maybe a resever player and maybe a starter, adding Schmidt would curb the bullpen and rotation woes.

you arent going, I will be there!!!

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) well a trade is a trade isn't it? i would like to see baseball shorten the season a month so the playoffs aren't played in extreme cold & add a best of five game all-star week to determine the worldseries home team! The AL vs NL allstars just isn't played out enough IMO.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) you know this might sound utterly rediculous but i can never understand why the Cubs & Sox don't help each other over the hump especially when one is making a run and the other isn't...the cubs season is by no means over, but in the past couldn't these two teams just rent each others talent and then after the postseason just return to sender? i mean what is the mayor doing? as much as i would hate to see the cubs win...it would have been cool to see MB on the Cubs the year they gave away the WS to the Marlins, & how nice it would be to see prior for cubs fans this year pitching for the sox? there are guys out there that could break legs if the player wasn't returned...no? :headshake

Im extremely dissapointed in our Dye failure. We got too relaxed on this cubs fan. I will pitch in where needed on the pitchers.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) Schmidt's is having a weak year & has never pitched regularly against AL lineups. Lilly is proven success in that dept. Schmidt is still a health risk & a question mark. Just look at Pavano & Johnson for how hard it is for fireballers to make the transition. Chemistry wise Lilly will do whatever is asked of him because he's done that his whole career. He's not a big headed ego. Schmidt has been a #1 for most of his career. I don't know how he will sit as #4/#5 nor how he'll take to sharing the spot with El Duque. If we are more concerned about chemistry than fortifying weakness Lilly is a far lower risk in that dept. You are debating the value of an Ace, vs. a #4 guy. Come on, Schmidt is an Ace, could make our rotation the best in the league, Lilly is no better than anyone on our staff. I dont buy it.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) The more I look at our needs & what a player will cost us I see Lilly as the answer. He's got good numbers in his first 30 pitches over his career & in 2005 to suggest a strong arm in the pen. He's not a great starter but definitely one that will keep you in games (like El Duque). He's perfect for the dual job of relief & spot starts. You can do a LOT worse than sharing the 4th between Lilly & El Duque. If Schmidt's last start was impressive would Lilly's 14IP, 2R, 16K's vs STL & BAL not be any less impressive? I would say that's impressive for a guy who would be 4th in the White Sox rotation. Lilly's last 4 starts have been impressive: 3.46E, 26IP, 9W, 19K .208BAA Against WC/div contenders: BAL .216BAA, .733OOP BOS .250BAA, .789OOP CLE .240BAA, .677OOP DET .229BAA, .647OOP LAA .229BAA, .721OOP MIN .244BAA, .789OOP NYY .247BAA, .790OOP That's against the 2005 players on those teams & there's no real damage there. Not one contender is hitting better than .250 vs him. My vote is for Lilly. Lilly's Career stats vs Schmidt's it was a nice stretch for an arguement, but come on Juggs.

Carlos is a f***ing beast, he owns Milwaukee right now. Good for him, I will always love El Caballo.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) They're not going to win the division this year and their main players are in their late 30's or 40's. Seems like a good time to rebuild. It is, and they have some bats that will allow them to do it. The only problem is Bonds getting back. They already traded 2 young players for LaChoke, which was a dumb move in my opinion.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) I've heard Mr. Burns on the Simpsons was based on him.... They used to have mock interviews with "Pohlad" on the radio and it was always a Burns voice. nope, Mr Burns was based on JD Rockefeller

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) I was saying a Schmidt or an Oswalt or a Clemens. Anything less should probably go to the 'pen. BTW...not saying we have a chance on anyone of those guys. I think we have a chance at all three, but I would rather have Oz or JS. I will tell you why. Both team are extremely needy as far as young talent goes. They need major league ready prospects to fill in their old holes. The Giants are about to fire their manager, and need to re-build, especially with Bonds being a huge question mark, and their team being extremely old. They will probably move Alou, and will be able to give a prospect a starting role to aid in development. Brian Anderson could easily fit the bill in the OF. They also would like to bolster their bullpen and could use a young arm. I would be willing to give them both. Schmidt could put the sox out of reach if he returns to Ace form. Oswalt could do the same and is younger as well.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) Olivo the guy I was actually the most depressed to see go has been horrendous but Reed has been decent and Morse has been real good so far, however yeah we easily won that deal imo cause you can't find many pitchers like Freddy. For the most part I agree with you and knowing that Schmidt has a team option for next year I'd make a deal for him in a heartbeat he has a 16 inning scoreless streak right now and he's starting to get it back to the form that made him a cy young candidate for the last few years. Schmidt is a great, great pitcher and the Sox have some money left to spend for this year so why not use it to bring in Jason. Then because he has a team option for next year then you figure out what to do with him next year when next year comes. Think about it this way folks. Down the stretch we play Min a bunch of times. How does this look? 1.MB 2. FG 3. JC 4. JG 5. Jason Schmidt Honestly, can you even lose 2 games in a row? Three, no way. Schmidt reunited with AJ, returns to his dominant form from last year. We have the bullpen to assure he doesnt overwork his arm (Dusty). That rotation is the best in the league, hands down. Each arm gives you a chance for a shutout, everyday. Thats unbelieveable. Three aces in one rotation, 2 gives teams a WS title, what does three do?

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 11:57 PM) The money is not that big of an issue. The prospects we'd have to give up is though. That's why I wouldn't make this move. As far as Frank goes, I think Sox management has to keep him around. PK does better with him around(at least the clubhouse). I think management realizes Frank is a lifetime Sox. I also doubt he asks for much more than he's making now. With the team winning and increased revenue, I don't see why he wouldn't be resigned. Maybe Steff has some inside info. Prospects??? Why is anyone even mentioning keeping prospects. Look at the two that we traded for Freddy, seems we lucked out in that deal. Prospects are not proven, not a sure thing, but this season is starting to look like one. This might be our one chance to take this team to the promised land. Should we sacrafice that for a small chance that one of our propects might be an ok player in the future. Hell no, trade em all, trade em now, we have more. Anderson might never have a spot for him until 2 years for now, trade his ass. BMAC is good, but there may be better behind him, trade him. Trade everyone, I want to win NOW. This is the best team any of us have ever seen, do you want to waste it? I sure as hell dont.

What the hell is Ozzie doing with his lineup?
RockRaines replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I cant believe this debate has kept going. The 3-hole is tailor made for big Frank, I cant even believe we are arguing this. If you want a pretty good spot for A-row, the 2-hole would be pretty decent, but 5 and 6 look good as well. Honestly, this debate is a case of someone not knowing the finer points of the game, pure and simple. BA isnt even a decent stat. -

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) I think you're crazy if you think a) Thomas will keep slugging .771 all year b ) Rowand will only slug .414 all year Clearly, one is in a hot power streak and one is in a cold one. Besides, Slugging disparities are all about high variance anyway. Rowand had 24 jacks last year and 38 doubles. In my opinion, neither were serious flukes. He'll probably only hit 16-20 hr this year because of a cold power streak, but I think he's on pace for about the same number of doubles. I'd be surprised if he doesn't hit 55+ XBH. I hear what you are saying, but I guess I'm wondering how long Ozzie would keep Thomas at 3 if he goes into any kind of slump and ends up around .250. You DO know that last year was a career year for A-row and Frank was still on pace to hit about the same amount of doubles. Even so, Frank is still a better 3 hole hitter. Whoever taught you the fine points of who should hit where taught you wrong. Im sorry to insult you, but its true. -
Cubs fans are so pathetic. Their posts are saying the dumbest s*** ever. Hey sox fans, go back to mullets and low income..at least we fill our park. Seriously, is that all you have on us, your attendance???

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Getting a #1, #2 SP is far easier said than done. And not worth the price IMO. I think the sox would be hard pressed to find a SP out there who could better what Mark, Jon, Freddy and Jose can do. Plus, if El Duque can pitch, a 5th starter type could go to the bullpen. Honestly, the way this team is playing this year, and having the best record ever by a sox team. KW knows this could be the year we do it. So he is definatley going to look for a big trade just to see what he can get. If it means sacraficing a possible player down the road, do it. I honestly think he is looking at players like Oswalt, he was looking at Chavez, etc. This is the year to make that HUGE trade that can put a team over the top, sort of how Houston did it last year with Beltran to get them to the playoffs.
