  1. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Okay, so all you guys that think Thomas' average is going to come up....what about Rowand's power numbers? He had 60 extra base hits last year. Not entirely bad. This year he's been in a bit of a power slump, but he has the tools to be the type of complete player to hit from the three hole. He definitely showed that last year. Rowand's prime is also probably still ahead of him, whereas Thomas's is way in the rear view mirror.... Dont even care if his average comes up. It probably will the way he has been coming back, but his OBP and his power numbers are still going to be better than A-row.
  2. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) and you're not a Thomas apologist you say? uh.... anyway, I like Frank. I just always understood that your best hitter for average was your number 3 hitter.....Frank is no longer that guy. Sure, he's still getting a lot of walks, but if he hits, say .251 with an OBP of around .330 (the low end of the spectrum IMO, the high end I quoted earlier) is that appropriate for a number 3 hitter? btw, Rowand is a career .288 hitter, not .270. There is your major mistake right there, BA is not everything in your #3 hitter. Our #4 hits homeruns, thats is. We want maximum power and OBP in our 3 hole in front of our 4 and 5.
  3. GM of the Jays said Lilly is untouchable.
  4. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Hideaway Lights, I'm really sorry to be rude, but I can't believe you would suggest Frank to bat 5th. Im not sure if he was serious, or just trying to stir the pot. Either way its a dead issue in my eyes. 9.5 games up
  5. I really want a sig that has Rock raines in it and something that has to do with his 808 stolen bases. Cant seem to come up with anything, who is creative???
  6. that doesnt help that I need a sig
  7. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Bad choice. I hope some people can see the obvious sarcasm. I like Mora better.
  8. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Why are we focusing on Frank's/Aaron's career OBP when we should be focusing on what he/they can do NOW. Because the career of a player is how you stake their worth. Frank is built to be a great 3 hole hitter, he always has been, always will be. You want people on base for your 4 and 5 hitters. Thats what we are doing here. You are beating a dead horse. Frank is the best hitter on the team, has the best eye, makes the best contact. He is the 3 hitter.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) LMAO.. don't you have a radio in your office.. ?? Switched to Itunes baby
  10. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) I think Thomas does a fine job getting on base, but I think I want a better overall hitter in that three slot than 2005 Thomas. That's all I'm saying. Getting on base is part of being an overlal hitter, there is no question that the 3 hole is built for a guy like Frank. Konerko needs RBI's from the 4 spot, Frank gets on base, you got it?? Good.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) WTF!?!?!?!?! Get Dye in there or I will! Why aren't we flooding this one? I was thinking last minute flooding to make it more fun. To give the flubbie fans a ray of hope.
  12. He might have asked him which one should start. I mean, they are both dominant right now, but I would rather have no all-stars. Be the first team to start a boycott on it, and make it actually meaningless.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Not an idiot...but thanks for trying to beat me down! I remember last year when the game was way outta reach the whitesox would then proceed to score another 5 runs to make the score something like 13-4 or something like that...and then it almost always followed that we would score only 1 run in each of the next two games...you must remember as baseball fans that the averages over the year for all teams is to score and give up 4-5 runs per game. the team that wins the one & two run games is usually the team with the best record at the end of the year. that is what has been so impressive about this team and reason to believe that it should continue...the padres went to colorado and scored a zillion runs earlier in the season and then didn't hit for a week...the dodgers started the season hotter than the sox but they were killing teams....the math caught up with them too! *crickets*
  14. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Terry Francona called Ozzie and asked him who he thinks should be in the All-Star Game among Buehrle and Garland. Ozzie thinks both should be in. insider info??
  15. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Here's the way I see it....yes, Frank has hit some key homers and drawn some key walks. Yes, he has the best OBP of all time. Here's the deal though. There are three possibilities for Thomas at the plate 90% fo the time....out, walk or homer. He is not the singles and OB hitter he used to be. I expect he will be at 265-270 with 30-35 jacks and probably 70 walks. That is a 4 or 5 hitter, not a three hitter. If it is a singles hitter that you want, do not look in the 3 hole, this is an extra base hitter category, who can protect the other people in the lineup and get on base. Thats what he does.
  16. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) I can see you put some thought into this thread. I did, and you had nothing to say to that. Fact is, Frank is the best hitter to ever put on a sox uniform, the third spot is his. And while we are thinking about it, it also makes sense to put him there.
  17. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Think critically, folks. I realize it's tough to do when we're all high-fiving one another and patting ourselves on the back as fans. Ok, here is how to think critically. Big Frank has one of the best OBP of all time. Not only that but he is on pace to hit about 47 homers. You put your best hitter in the 3rd spot, thats it. he is our best hitter. You cannot make the case that A-row is a better hitter than Frank because his average is higher. He does not protect hitters behind him and in front of him like Frank does, and will never scare the opposing team like Frank does. And nobody will get on base like Frank does. Sorry
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) You're an idiot whitesoxmanager[/size] Pretty much, yeah.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) when you say "value" did you mean that someone might pay for what i say? oh cool! look jack in all seriousness i love tim raines....get a kick out of how he runs to first base during warmups before each inning and then just barely runs past first safely and jokes with the opposition first baseman...that to me is fun but what are you trying to do? kill the sox fan?
  20. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) 24544 is pretty good for a Wednesday afternoon. Too bad I have to reserve all of my vacation time or else I would have trecked out for the game. The new thing in my office is to come up to me and gush about the Sox. Funny part is, before this year, there was only me and the CFO as Sox fans. Suddenly there are a whole slew of Sox fans in this office and personnel hasn't changed lol. Not me, we are pretty much dominated by cubs fans in my office, but our company is based in NYC, so our CEO is a yankees fan and our CFO is a Red Sox fan.
