QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I think he is the only proven post season pitcher we have. that was my point.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Let's see, two regulars slinging s*** at a newbie without admonishment from the mods, despite the posted rules yeah, this has gotta be soxtalk. if you dont like it, leave. ESPN has a board that might interestyou.

QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) soreness in his tricep i think i remember hearing cant even get that right huh? Its the bicep, and they are re-evaluating him today. The slowness in his pitches last night were definatley the speed gun as Polite was topping off at 90 MPH on his fastball.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) One of the best postseason pitchers currently in baseball. 10-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 14 career postseason starts. Including a 1.98 ERA in the Divisional series and a 2.28 in the World Series. This is exactly why he wont be in the bullpen, I wouldnt be surprised if they moved him up in the rotation as well. He is flat out the best post season pitcher we have.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Attitude isn't everything. I just don't think he's ready. 372 career minor league games is not enough to me. He has to show that he can consistantly produce at the minor league level before I even think about calling him up. I believe A-row had about that many if not less when they brought him up for the first time, did you think he needed more time at the minor league level?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) The biggest thing Rogo has going for him is that he's on the 40. Rogo hit .211 in spring training with a .250 OBP albeit in 19 ABs but still very unimpressive. The only realistic backup first baseman that's not currently with the team is Ross Gload but it appear that he has injured himself again. With Norton there is really no spot on the 40 for him. I'm just not convinced on Rogo. He has to play in AAA before he becomes a possiblily at the Major league level. Not everyone needs to make a stop in AAA before they make the big club. The kid is arguably the best hitter on our AA team, there have been plenty of kids called up from AA that have done just fine. His sparse at-bats in ST are still better than Timo's production right now in more at-bats. He also has a record of getting on base easier and steals more bases, his attitude has been praised as well as his work ethic.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Send him to Tampa Bay for Jonny Gomes (25 in October)(.340/.470/.715) and a good prospect. TB just released their DH Josh Phelps, and could easily use Carl in that spot. And Lou Pinella would probably like his fiery attitude as well. Gomes could become the 1st OF off the bench, negating the need for Timo. He would be the backup DH also, and could come into play for the DH role next season, depending on what happens with Frank Thomas. So, we are giving TB one of our emotional leaders and a real class act, for a kid who is mouthing off about where he is in an organization. Bascially swapping a proven, consistent player for a younger, unproven, smart ass. No thanks.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) What exactly makes you think he can produce on the Major League level right now? I'll bite kal He is 24 years old so he isnt exactly an immature person, as was developed as a champion wrestler so his heart and work ethic are no questions in my mind. HIs OBP seems to be one of his largest attributes and drew 91 walks last year. He has been producing nice numbers this year .322 .395 .493, with 33 Rbi's. The only concern I have is his K's, but it seems like this kid can produce on higher levels as he played OK in ST and is hitting well in Bham. He is also on the 40 man which would make the move somewhat easy. The only real negative is taking away at-bats from someone who seem to be improving at a steady pace. I think that he could move up to AAA and they could kick Norton up again.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) I'm just saying if Pods played his first full length season when he was 21 and not when he was 27 he may have been able to put up comparable career SB numbers. Its possible, but being as consistant a base stealer as Raines was, is extremely hard to achieve in the league nowadays.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) Raines broke into the league at the age of 19 and went on to play 23 seasons in the big leagues. Pods broke into the league at the age of 25 and has been up ever since. So Tim Raines had a 6 year headstart on Pods. Now one thing that Pods could do is break Tim Raines' career high in stolen bases which was 90. If he could accomplish that then he'd have something on Raines. Oh yeah and Tim Raines had 808 career stolen bases. The White Sox media guide lists his career stolen bases as 806, so maybe we should call them and ask them why the typo. I think they dont count his 2 in 1979 because I believe they were pinch run. And who cares about his head start? he actually really only played his first decent length season when he was 21-22. I wasnt knocking SPODS, Tim Raines was a GOD!! look at the seasons from 81 through 87: 71, 78, 90, 75, 70, 70, 50. Damn!!! No to mention his BA and OBP.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Damn straight! Nah, Comiskey was an asshole.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) He is the only first base coach I have ever seen do that. He has lost a lot of speed too cause those plays are always close, when he hits first he sticks his arms out indicating that he was safe on the play, the guy is always having fun. 806 career stolen bases folks, Spods will never touch that figure.
-
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Mackowiak, on the other hand, is hitting .346 with a.425 OBP His career is .335 Not great, but better. Plus he can play all the outfield spots too. Mack is a below average IF and is basically another OF'er. Not really an upgrade on a defensive minded team.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) Is anybody on this board sold on Uribe? Yeah, you can count me in on being sold, I like his defense, his leadership with the pitchers (going to the mound more often) his report with count when he is in trouble and his ability to get runners in when he needs to. I think he is a serviceable SS and will only improve.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) It seems to me that Brandon needs to develop some movement on his fastball. He has great control with it, but its just to straight. I'm not sure what his reasons for pitching less than his usual lately, but that could be part of it. I honestly think that the brief call up may have taken his concentration away from his current job. I think since he got a taste of the big club that his mind in constantly on when he will get another chance, and may have demoted the importance of his current team. TIFWIW

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) Wagner will remain the closer with the Phillies and Uggy will be the setup man Me personally, I would rather have Chase Utley than Polanco cause Utley is a good power hitter who also hits for avg (just like Polanco)(*you can check his stats if you dont believe me) and he can also play a few positions (2nd and 1st) >which could have given konerko a break at first, and finally... Utley is cheaper than Polanco. That is my opinion. I would rather have Utley as well, but I think the Phils do too.

I have to give it to you, that was a pretty creative bet.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) I think we have pretty much ran this topic into the ground. There are NO untouchables on the team or in the system IF Kenny thinks it will improve the team. He isn't going to trade B Mac or Anderson for Randa, but he might for someone else. And no, I'm not going to speculate on who that is. hahaha, we could get into THAT discussion again, or just read the 1000 posts that have already discussed it again. I still agree that untouchable is an ever changing status of a player, and I agree that KW should trade whoever he needs to, and I think you know who im talking about already.
-
QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) Hah! You obviously don't understand the rules Dybber. If you think somebody could be traded, you must know to whom, for what, and have evidence to prove there is interest. You are not allowed to just post thoughts on possible trade candidates. Dont you have some xbox teams to manage somewhere?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) It looked like an argument, but noone looked angry really. Duque just looked like he was trying to stay in the game. Everytime I see shots of the dugout during the game, those guys look like they are having the greatest time with each other. Thats part of what I really love about this team. Did anyone see MB throwing seeds at Raines in the dugout? Raines kept trying to duck them but MB was constantly tossing seeds at the back of his head and using AJ as protection.

Check my posts, when I was bashing him, I said I would wait until July to say anything mean about him again, and if he turned it around by then I would keep my mouth shut.

Great article. "One of the moves being thrown around by the plethora of amateur general managers had Chavez moving to the White Sox for third baseman Joe Crede and pitcher Brandon McCarthy, with an alleged deal-breaking request by Oakland for Minor League standout Brian Anderson." Have these guys been lurking on soxtalk? "In fact, Williams smiled and eventually forced out a "yes" when one reporter asked him if there were any untouchables in his Minor League system. Williams wouldn't give the exact total, in order to maintain future leverage in possible deals, but McCarthy and Anderson certainly are on that short list." I think from now on, any trade ideas should not include these two guys, I think we may actually have some untouchables for real this time.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:51 PM) Politte's hit game me a boner.....fake bunt with the infield charging and a slap hit past the 1B into RF for an RBI..... Apparently Polite was watching the womens college softball championship in the clubhouse and mentioned how the slap hit was a lost art.

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 01:59 AM) Thanks YASNY. I have been really thinking about this the past 3 days seeing the Yanks implode against the Brewers. Yes, Kenny should pick up the phone and ask. It cannot hurt can it? T Wow, its nice to back up your suggestions with some realistic reasons for the trade happening. But then say good bye to half of our players as we struggle to pay for 2 Paul Konerko's playing 3B. It would cost us the whole AAA team as well. Plus The Boss will never go into selling mode, he is a buyer, and he will stay that way. Why would he trade his best player, probably one of the best who has ever played for some of our players when he could just buy what he needs, and trade away his farm system some more. If he is going to unload someone to get some pieces, it sure as hell wont be A-rod and it wont be with us to get our prospects, because A-row could command a price tag of at least 2 starting pitchers, and if we did that, we are f***ed.
