QUOTE(Iguana @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 08:20 AM) Yea, any trade involving Hurt sucks. He needs to retire a Sox. Hes not going to be traded anyway, it will cost a team 12 million dollars to get him. I thought this was realistic trade suggestions, we are once again shooting xbox trades around again.

QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) Oh no. Trade ideas. And I don't have any GMs telling me they are or aren't interested. Horrors. Dont you have an MVP team to manage???? :headshake

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Oh, I'm not talking about trading Carl. I definitely think we should keep Carl. I don't think it would take Carl to pick up a backup corner IF...Carl's very important to the team both in the clubhouse and off the bench. Without him, we have no one off the bench that strikes any fear in opposing pitchers and coaches. Having Carl on the bench available for pinch hitting with forced managers to manage differently than if Pablo and Timo were the #1 hitters off the bench. Completely agree, if you mean replacing Timo with someone who can play the corner spots and OF then I agree totally. Works over, Im out, lets hope for a sweep tonight!!!!

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) You can't continue to ignore a weakness just because a player is a good teammate. Timo isn't performing. Should we waste a roster spot just because he's liked? I would hope that replacing the last player on this roster wouldn't distrupt team chemistry. I would hope this team isn't that fragile... The weakness really only cost us one play and ultimately 1 game. There are more pressing issues on the team such as bullpen help, that could be addressed before this issue. Timo in that spot is terrible, actually any spot, and I think we should have sent him down awhile ago, I think that we have players down there who could play 1B and OF better than Timo. Im also not saying that the team is fragile, but unloading someone who is a leader on the team-and he is if you read the article about the K-court, they elected him as the judge and KW and Ozzie and Pk have said he is a leader in the clubhouse-may have a negative impact.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 05:03 PM) That situation isn't the only reason why a trade would be beneficial. Can Gload even come back a 100%? We don't know. To wait around to see IF he can, is a mistake. Picking up a 1B/OF/3B type wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. As long as that player is better than Timo, which is so hard, we improve the team. Great teams have great depth. PK isnt superman. It would be extremely nice to pick up a player that could spell in those spots, but we would have to give up something for a player that versatile, and would it be worth it to us, possibly. You also have to make sure we dont make a move that alters the team's make up, as I said before KW and Ozzie said that Carl is a large part of the positive attitude on this team, and at this point, we are still the best team. If we continue with this record until the rosters expand, then we wouldnt need to make a move at all in my opinion.

QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) As for Ozzie, I HIGHLY doubt that he is privy to everything KW does. The thing I find most funny is that I say it will be "likely" and that "if we trade Everett". But I'm making claims. Meanwhile, RR shouts to the world that Everett WILL NOT be traded and anyone who disagrees is stupid. Im sure Ozzie has input as to what he needs especially since they built the team the way he wanted it to be built. You were throwing out trade ideas like Everett for this, and for that, and you couldnt say anything specifically that made sense and I called you out on it, dont get all crabby about it. I would LOVE to trade Everett for a position player who would help the team out, fact is, not many teams would value him at this point especially when he is basically only a DH. Secondly he is important to the chemistry of this team which has notched us at least 10 wins, and being that we have the best record and our nearest competition is right behind us, messing with that just to move someone is not a good idea IMHO.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) It's not so much as to give PK the day off. It's to give this team the option at 1B. Last Sunday, PK led off the 8th inning of a tie game with a base hit. Instead of having the option of pinch running for PK and bunting the next hitter, Ozzie was forced to keep PK in the game and let the next hitter hit away. It's situations like this that has Ozzie handcuffed right now. Not to mention, when PK actually needs to the day off, we aren't replacing our best power threat with our worst hitter (Timo). If Gload is unable to go for 2 months then, KW should go out and get a player to take Ross's spot, and get rid of Timo. So in that situation we need a player to spell PK for an inning or two in his position after he has been pitch run for, that the situation where we would like to have more options than Ozuna or Timo, but at this juncture, just to make a move for that situation doesnt make much sense. All you can do with the best record in the MLB is wait for Gload to be ready.

QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) "try interjecting trading someone for that same reason on for size, and you will find that an even worse idea." If you bothered to read, I am not advocating trading Everett for a backup 1B. My very first post alluded to the point I'd like to either claim Phelps off waivers outright or trade some B level prospect to Tampa for him. If we trade Everett, it will be for 1. A replacement starter such as Randa 2. A reliable RP and possibly a prospect 3. A 4th OF and a prospect. I don't buy the Ozzie/Timo bulls***. I don't expect we'll ever see Timo at 1B again. Ok, so you think that Cincy would be interested in an aging DH, especially when they play in the national league and already have too many OF'ers?? You still havent given the teams that would trade what for what, trade Everett for a reliable RP, who? Why would we need another OF when we already have too many? Maybe claiming a player off waivers is a good idea, but then who would we send down to make room for him?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Well, PK played 155 games last year, but he only started at 1st in 137 of them. The rest he either DHed or pinch hit. That leaves a few more than 7 games to fill in based on that number. Most he's ever played in teh field is 144. Alot of his DH-ing was due to having our DH injured, and to get some at-bats for his backup who was also swinging a hot bat.
-
QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Everett will likely be traded. Whether its for a current starter's replacement, or a backup piece that fits better/prospects remains to be seen. Who are these phantom trading partners that value an aging DH that are willing to part with a starter or a quality back-up?? And it definatley does not make sense for us to trade for prospects in the middle of a title chase. Defend your claim of Carl is likely to be traded and please mention something of value that we can get in exchange for him, because your claims are unfounded.

QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Maybe because several sources have already indicated Kenny has started working on a deal? I like Carl, but he will not be happy as a platoon player spot-resting Dye, Podsednik, and Frank. There are other men on the 40 that can play 1b? Really? Then Timo was put there why? Kenny is not going to take at-bats from Rogo to bring him up just to back up Kong. I willl address your points 1 at a time. 1. Several sources have indicated that Kenny will trade Carl-The tribune, which holds alot of weight since they mentioned the cubs trading for Urbina, Dotel, and missed the trade with Latroy. They also mentioned the sox getting Chavez. These sources also mentioned trading Thomas which would never happen with his 12 million dollar option. 2. Carl and KW have been quoted saying that Carl doesnt care about playing time as much as he cares about winning and getting a ring, same for Frank. 3. Yes, there are, this is exactly why nobody knows why Timo was started there, and why alot of people question the man-love between Ozzie and Timo. And if you think bringing someone up to back up Kong is ridiculous, try interjecting trading someone for that same reason on for size, and you will find that an even worse idea.

QUOTE(shakes @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) Can't Crede spell PK at first occasionally. At least, until we find a backup. It's a fairly smooth transition from 3rd to 1st. Or is it too much since he's our third string SS. When Healthy PK plays about 155 games a year lets say. So you are calling for a trade so we can have someone play 7 games!!!!
-
QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) No, but I saw Kenny Williams at a 7-Eleven and he told me the joke about the priest, the rabbi, and the hooker..........that guy is so funny. :headshake

QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Once Frank is healthy it's hard to believe he'll be out of the lineup often. Everett is likely to be traded for prospects or possibly a prospect along with either a 4th OF or a RP. Thomas will not be playing the field this year, and with Gload injured we need a backup for Kong not named Timo. Personally, I'm interested in seeing what happens with Josh Phelps. Tampa designated him for assignment, if he has to clear waivers I would claim him. I don't think it would take anything of value to pick him up, and he could back up Kong at 1B and Frank at DH. How do you claim that Everett is likely to be traded??? And why trade a good bat for a prospect when you are in a pennant race?? Gload wasnt up on the roster anyway, plus there are other players on the 40 man that can play 1B. How do you explain that trading someone just for a backup when we have backups in our system is a good idea?
-
My bad, Burke is not on the 40-man, but there are capable players who can fill in for a day, and adding someone just for that role is unbelieveably stupid.
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) At least you Polanco-enthusiasts will get to see your collective man-crush 10+ times a season. there is an obscene amount of man-love for polanco on this board.
-
We dont need another starting 1B, Everett wont be traded because we wont get anything of value, and Konerko will not sit many games. With that said, if its to the point where you really need a back up 1b, we have options on our 40 man roster including Rogo and Burke. So there is absolutley no need to trade for someone just in case our starting 1B needs a days rest, thats just amateur and f***ing xbox worthy.

Hopefully this won't be a repeat of last year!

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) Because of what we did at the begining of the season, not because of what we're doing right now. You mean like flat out winning series, or leading almost every game we have been in. Who are you kidding? Check out the dodgers and the Jays, they were just as hot, and now they dont have the best record in the MLB. -
where are all the mods to change the desription of this thread, damn!!!

I think the tigers have lost faith in Guillen staying injury free.

Does this mean Wagner will be able to be moved???

Veteran relief pitcher Ugueth Urbina and infielder Ramon Martinez were acquired by the Phillies from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for infielder Placido Polanco, General Manager Ed Wade announced today. Link http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_r...t=.jsp&c_id=phi whoops can someone change the topic to traded by Phils, sorry

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Even though the opposition here is overwhelming, I agree. Timo hasn't been in very many games this year, but those he has been in he's played well. How anyone can insult him an call him a bad player is beyond my comprehension. I've seen good stuff from him considering how little time he's gotten in. Give me an example of this good play. 2 hits does not a good player make. Bad fielding, low avg, bad pinch hitter, not good in many positions, overpaid, and your 2 foot long sig full of quotes are all bad things.

Well barring a trade, who would you rather have in vs. lefties, Cotts or Marte?????
