I know the secret of no offense at Coors field
RockRaines replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) I rather us hire 2 hitting coaches... Walker would be the power one and than get a guy that teaches the hitters to use all parts of the field and everything. Harold Baines helps with the hitting as well, dont forget about Rock Raines either. You have several VERY good hitting coaches helping out the players. -
QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) hes not that bad. plus he went to illinois st. and i know some people who played baseball there.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Well here is the scouting report on Randa Hitting Hitting from a relaxed stance, Randa makes good adjustments for situation and count, which helps him thrive in pressure situations. Although usually a patient contact hitter who uses the whole field, Randa will expand his strike zone and swing more aggressively in RBI situations. He can bunt or hit behind runners as the situation requires , but he's prone to chasing high fastballs when down in the count and his platoon differential gradually is becoming more pronounced. Randa rarely swings for the fences; he's at his best when hitting the ball where it's pitched. Thats the scouting report, plus years of watching randa hit situationally against the sox. thank you ESPN.com I wasnt being serious, although I still hate Joe Randa and think he is a terrible option for this year and for the future. But we have already debated that one for a few days and we will never agree. He is rated as a "good" bunter though.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) Poor guy; here he thought he was going to make a nice splash at Soxtalk, only to get completely shot down in flames. Timo sucks. He's awful. In fact, I would personally gather up a collection to buy his plane ticket to Charlotte. Does anyone mind if we send him on Spirit Airlines? He doesn't deserve Delta, or even Ted. Not a good way to introduce yourself to this board, back up a worthless overpaid Rf'er. I think we could just give Timo a break and send him to the Joliet Jackhammers, its not a long trip.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) Randa can bunt. Not really.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) With Gload getting hurt again is their anyone out there that KW can get to backup Konerko that is our huge weakness... Brian Anderson, Rogo, Jamie Burke

QUOTE(valponick @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Due to the negativity I vote this not be the official game thread. your vote doesnt count because of your shameless advertising of your web site

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) Ozuna can play IF and OF Harris can play IF and OF Gload can play IF and OF (as long as it isn't RF) Timo can play RF and RF. He was good for us last year, but it's time to find a backup 1B since Gload is down again and Timo sucks at 1B. And by the way, it's not y'all, it's ya'll. Learned that when I moved to Texas. Good point, You have basically three utility players who can fill in, and a backup RF who basically is not a very good pinch hitter. If we really needed a backup OF'er, which we dont, Brian Anderson is more versatile and a better player than Timo. But as it has been said on here time and time again, its all about the man-love, and Ozzie has a man-crush on Timo.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) That is great news. The old softie in me hates to see kids fail. Hopefully he is getting back to full strength and can make a run at the bigs still. It is good news that he is starting to pitch decent, but I think its a forgone conclusion that he wont make a run at the big club, I think he's pretty much going to be in the same position for the next several years.

Dusty's newest excuse for Cubs woes...
RockRaines replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in The Diamond Club
By the way, the trib is blaming last nights loss on a cat running on the field. The curse of the black and white cat. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:09 PM) I have hated him since he was promoted. Every hitter that came through his system had long looping swings and were dead pull hitters. I didnt think magically he was going to change when he went to the majors. Apparently Greg walker is the only reason why Joe Crede is a pull hitter, and our averages are down. There is no other reason for it I guess. No other factors influence hitters, no other coaches and certainly not the players themselves. Walker tried his best to stop the break out season of A-row and his recent success at the plate. He tried desperately to stop such hitting streaks by CLEE, Kong, A-row, Gooch. Nothing makes Walker more frustrated that Dye's recent improvements at the plate including hitting the ball the other way and more plate discipline. Walker is trying extremely hard to get SPODS to see less pitches at the plate, and he is continuing his life long goal of bringing Frank Thomas's OBP to under .300. :headshake -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) You are watching the emergence of a set up man now, and it is due to Ozzies "terrible" bullpen management and willingness try guys in different roles. You may all praise him now. I've noticed a different approach in Cotts, he seems to be rearing back to throw his fastball, instead of aiming his pitches. He is being more aggressive and challenging the hitters, somewhat like he did when he was pitching well in the minors, I like his new approach.

Doesnt utility mean actually being able to play more than one position, he is an OF'er not a utility player, and a grossly overpaid one at that.

QUOTE(wherehaveyougoneharold @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 07:59 AM) Somebody check our 2003 or 2004 schedule. I'm not sure, but for some reason I remember us getting done with New York very early in the season and before they started rolling. If it were some kind of a conspiracy, with all of the pop culture love for Boston, why wouldn't they lay the schedule out for a Boston repeat? I think last year we had a schedule that could have favored us, the problem was, we didnt win the easy parts.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) Na, they wear White Sox hats. Trust me. Most of them know it, but there are some idiots that are...well...idiots. But have you seen those? They are red, and the S is all jacked up
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) You wouldn't believe how many people wear them out in Boston. Most know that it's the logo of the White Sox, but some are just really stupid and assume that the "Sox" stands for the Red Sox. actually there is an old Red Sox hate that has our sox logo on it, you can tell its the red sox because the S is missing the extra line that ours has. I see alot of people at white sox games wearing them, but they are really red sox hats.

QUOTE(diehard chisox 1427 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) I don't know if this was posted yet and sorry if it was, but I heard from somewhere, I cannot remember where, that if Frank was traded, the team that acquired him automatically had to pick up his contract for next year which is like 12 mil or something. That might be hard to hand off to someone. Later Carl. Bill Yes it was posted, and nobody is trading either one of these guys. :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger :finger -

QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Ya know yea I am lazy, I am actually trying to juggle finding out about which 18 year old is going to fail next while negotiating software deals for 5 million dollars over a conference call. So Ya I am a bit lazy, I am old also, and have limited time. I do try my best though. Im on placeware closing a software deal as well, I still looked up his numbers.

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) Good play by Erstad, the Braves were pissed because they beleived Erstad had room to slide , as Estrada was not blocking his path, but it was a close enough play that Erstad had to make his decision and go with it. Hope Estrada is not badly hurt, but it is part of the game. yeah he had room to slide, right into the tag, great play by Erstad, the guy flat out plays the game.
