QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Yeah, the only thing we were sure of was that he missed an entire year of baseball. That really made us have a lot of confidence in the pick, lol. We thought we drafted a no-name guy with arm problems. Dont forget that Gio slipped as well because of his family as well. Im sure they may have seen something in this guy. But the truth of it is, this is nothing but a crap shoot anyway, otherwise Borchard would be the best hitter on the sox this year.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) It might sound like a "stretch" to you, but to the Sox it's not, and I have complete faith in our scouting department. They do a great job. IIRC, Jeremy Reed was a "stretch" in round 2 when we drafted him, and he turned out to be very worthy of that selection. Any how many have failed as well. An average pitcher selected this soon is sort of a stretch, even they will admit it. His numbers arent impressive and are not as good as some that are still on the board, I guarantee you that they might "see" something in this kid, because it sure isnt his numbers.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) boy Frank sure got himself a sweet contract way back when. pretty much a no-trade clause, with the exception of tons of money if he does get dealt makes me think he should be the one representing Skiles to go against Reinsdorf I think you may have forgotten about the diminished skills clause though.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Doesnt Uribe lead the league in the strangest stat ever, most pitches seen per at-bat? I think he averages an obscene number of pitches every at-bat. The only problem is that he is swinging at most of them... I dont know if thats true, I would say Scottie on average sees more pitches than anyone. He always seems to have a full count. -

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) and....see my above post - he's not going anywhere either. Neither of them probably would unless we go into free fall, once again affirming this poll is worthless, but I digress.................. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Why is it that with Crede and Uribe it always seems that when they take the first pitch, it's a strike, but when they swing at it, it ends up being outside the strike zone? Slash.....Timo's at bat last night, way to PH and swing and the first pitch you dumb s***. -
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) I don't want to see Frank go anywhere...as much as I want a championship, I want it with Frank. But I guess if traded him helped us win, I am for it. I just hope we can move Everett. nobody wants to pick up his 12 million dollar trade option, he isnt going anywhere.

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) I would like to add.......has anyone noticed that since Frank has been back everyone (excluding maybe crede) has been hitting the ball better. It has been this way since 90, when Frank is in the clubhouse this team hits better. Its been said he teaches Uribe patience at the plate. Maybe he does that with others as well. -

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) I understand that Frank has been the best all-time player in Sox history and he obviously carries sentimental value in the hearts of many Sox fans. The reason I made this pole was because I have read that Ozzie Guillen has been having headaches about the lineup card on a daily bases. And when Frank recently complained about playing time- I realized that KW might pull off a move so either Carl or Frank gets the ABs they deserve. Its awesome to have Frank back- BUT we started off the year on fire w/o him. This team doesn't need Frank to win. Carl is just as capable of driving in runs. I was a little pissed when Frank complained about playing time ALREADY! I would love for KW to keep them both- as depth is an important key to championship teams. Who knows- Maybe Ozzie can have a meeting with them and figure out ways to make everyone on the same page and somewhat happy. I guess we'll just have to wait and see... Understandable that you think that way, but the fact is, nobody is going to want to take Frank because of that trade clause. The only large budget teams that would be willing to take on a salary would have better options that Frank, and nobody is going to pay that 12 million dollars for an old DH. -
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Wouldn't it be a lot easier for an opposing team to pick up on a signal system coming from the pitcher to catcher than it is the other way around. I would be a bit concerned about that. Some times, what happens is the catcher gives an array of signs and then the pitcher wipes to tell the catcher which on in succession the pitcher wants to throw. Basically its a package system with many calls and alot of step off's. When I was a catcher we used this system with a breaking ball guy that we had, because sometimes he felt that hit pitches lost strength when following certain pitches. So you can work out a 5 pitch selection and the depending on his motions, wipes, nods etc he call which one he wants to throw. Sometimes he can tip which pitch he wants to throw before getting set, and then you just work out the location.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Why in the world would we help out a team that we may very well face in round 1 of the playoffs? Why in the world would we want Frank playing on a playoff team against us? If anything, I could see sending Everett to someone in the NL who needs a bat in the outfield and is willing to sacrifice some defense. I could see Atlanta fitting that mold (Carl...your job is to get out of Andruw's way). I sure as hell don't want Frank coming back to hit against us in the playoffs. Not in the least. Nobody is going to spend 12 million dollars on the Hurt, its not going to happen. we wont even spend that money to keep him, we will probably buy him out and then try to restructure a new deal. frankly, he is not worth that much money, even for a team that has alot of money. The Angels are trying to work out a deal with KC for sweeney last I heard, and that is alot better of an option that the hurt. He isnt going anywhere. -
Sort of strange that their player was available and they went another direction, especially with a player who doesnt have the serious heater at age 21. Seems kinda like they are reaching with this pick.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) The Anahiem Angels desperatly want a DH, and their owners are not afraid of spending money. You really think they would spend 12 million dollars on a 37 year old hitter coming off of a season ending injury, come on. -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Someone please use this. im on it.

I still want to find a good Rock Raines stolen base one. Did you know he had 806 career stolen bases"???? damn

Gooch is the most balanced hitter on the team. He can do more with the ball than anyone else, bunt, hit opo, pull, up the middle, IF hit, hr. He can do anything with any pitch so I would say it would be Gooch.

good idea for a poll, but think of a team that will pick up the hurt's 12 million dollar option when he is traded, and then I will vote. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Anyone else think that Gio's season this year could be a carbon copy of B-Mac's from last year? I said that in another thread, I think they have alot of similarities in their approach as well. I think you need to promote Gio so he doesnt get in the groove of how to beat low-a guys, he needs to constantly be challenged.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) For example, suppose the Angels want to add a DH (its been one of there big holes, but they will be getting Vladdy back) then the Sox could move Everett over for a prospect or two (nothing necessarily amazing) which could than get moved (maybe in addition to a Sox prospect, depending on how much cash they are saving) to a team out of it with a quality reliever (maybe the Mariners for Everyday Eddie, but in that case you'd have to give up some quality guys and I don't know if the Sox are going to go with that high profile of a move in terms of relief). UH, arent the Angels in the midst of aquiring Mike Sweeney, they will have an extra bet laying around after that.

To Upgade at the deadline, who would you trade?
RockRaines replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I honestly think Anderson is going to be a victim of bad timing, he is ready now, will be ready next year, and there is no starting job for him. -

RockRaines replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think we need Sweeney's bat eventually, and I think its bad timing for Brian to be this good right now, when there isnt room for him for at least a year. Trade him, and Trade BMAC, the rest, no way. Gio WILL be a better pitcher than BMAC some day. -
QUOTE(ISF @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Kong is expendable but who is going to take him? His numbers project him to a healthy salary next year, and his hip is only going to get worse. We don't need any major pieces, I think we got a clue to what we could expect from a trade of Everett in the paper today. We'd probably be looking for a catching prospect in any deal. Boston was shopping for a 1B, maybe we can get their SS prospect???
