  1. QUOTE(Soxaholic @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) Because we're STILL winning!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What did scoring nearly 6 runs/gm get us last season? A nice, comfy spot on the sofa in front of the television for October. I'll take this team--Paulie included--over grass-is-greener experiments and trade rumors that get us laughed at nationally. ____________________________________________ WE.GOT.FRANK. I dont recall anyone saying get rid of Paulie this year to begin with. Did you trip when you were backtracking from your paulie has 141 Rbi's argument?
  2. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) That's fine. But a lot of these posts have been based on anything but facts. Like Billy Beane wants to trade him NOW while his value is still high. A package of Crede and McCarthy will get us a great player like Chavez (signed to a monster deal) Can't wait for August 1st. But but but, trade RUMORS are always based on facts
  3. QUOTE(Soxaholic @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Because we're all so willing to part with a player when he has a bad start. Watch...Paulie is gonna have a helluva June. Remember that series last June against the Cubs..he had 9 RBIs? Check out all the multi-homer games he's had. Chavez has never even had 120 RBIs, not to mention 141. Holla... _____________________________________ ahahahahah where did you even get the number 141 from????
  4. QUOTE(Soxaholic @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) The only reason we're having his conversation is because Konerko is slumping. I don't remember all these calls for his head at the end of last season, or even the start of this one. And no matter what you say--and I LOVE the new offense--but you still need someone to drive in runners. I cant wait to see your posts exactly a month from now after KOng kills NL pitching. ______________________________ me-->you When the fireworks go off in the cell do you feel utter satisfaction? Kong is the king of solo hr's, so if driving in runs is your big concern, he is not the man for the job. Im also not calling for his head, I love pauly, but he is not a fit to re-sign on this team. re-siging him at the price he is going to be valued at is stupid for this ballclub, especially since he doesnt fit in our model of baseball. You are consistently talking about RBI's, he has broken 100 only twice and has never had 141 , so its not like he is an RBI monster(FYI Chavez has done it three times). As for the rest of his offensive stats, I have been stating that having Chavez in the lineup next year is more beneficial because his OBP is better, he hits to more fields, moves runners over, doesnt clog the bases brings 4 gold gloves and a silver slugger award and is more valuable as a 3B at a lower than market cost. Value is king and Konerko is a bad value. You can search my posts a month from now, if you are still posting , and if he raises his avg up to 300, I still wont think he is a fit for the sox, but if he does that sometime this season, you can have my season tickets any day you choose.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Not you.. It seems like every day there are people with a post total under 10 talking about the cubs this and the cubs that, etc. Im just baiting, not stirring :rolly
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) If the option to replace Konerko is Ross Gload, be careful what you wish for. Why? Im wishing for Ross Gload and Eric Chavez, its a dream come true for me, better offense and defense, thats a winner.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) But if he did want to come to Chicago, he would go out and say he didn't want to play in Chicago? With the way Beane spoke about it and Chavez spoke about it, if this trade ever happened (and it was never discussed by BB or KW) they would have no credibility at all. And what kind of character guy would Chavez be if he signed a huge contract and wanted to flee the second things didn't go very well in Oakland. If the team who acquired him stunk it up for 40 games would he try to get himself out of there? What kind of person is Billy Beane who signed Chavez based on the fact that he said they would be contenders, then traded away virtually every decent player on the team, and ALL of Chavez's closest teammates? Credibility and discussing probable trades are not one in the same. He wants the value for Chavez to stay high, and making him untouchable will make the offers better, got it?
  8. QUOTE(Soxaholic @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) If that was the case why didn't they deal him in the offseason? Where were you in the offseason, he was the first player that they shopped, no takers, because the FA class was better, this is why they had to deal C LEE.
  9. Holla... _____________________________________ I will bring it all you want, and if you want a little schoolin on baseball 101 PM me and we can set something up. You are homerun crazy in an ERA that is changing. KOney doesnt fit on this team anyone. He has a low BA, his OBP isnt what it should be, and he is a double play threat and a base clogger. He doesnt have the ability to hit the ball the other way and advance runners. Not to mention the contract that he will command when he is a FA based on the value of previous contracts and the fact that he is the only quality 1B that will be available. If you want to compare CHavez and Kong, we can go at it all you want, but I would rather you check out the threads from yesterday, then build up an argument, then come back and post again, been there done that.
  10. Per Rotoworld According to the Indians, Juan Gonzalez's hamstring tore completely off the bone as he ran to first base during his 2005 debut. ''Juan might be out up to three months,'' trainer Lonnie Soloff said. ''This is an uncommon injury in baseball players. Right now, it's quite swollen and sore. We'll re-examine him in two weeks after the pain and swelling subside. A determination on when he can return to play will be made then.'' Jun. 3 - 5:48 am
  11. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Chavez said into today SF Chronicle that he doesnt want to leave Oakland or play for any east coast team and he considers Chicago an east coast team... SO he wont becoming here So...you can post that in every thread and it still doesnt mean that its true. A player like Chavez wouldnt come out and say, you know what, I want to be traded and I will go anywhere, someone take me!!!!!
  12. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) While I like the idea of getting Chavez, I could certainly "live with" the Sox getting Joe Randa and an ace bullpen guy like Billy Wagner. Getting a Chavez type big bat would mean the best the sox could do would be adding a Ron Villone type to the pen. I'd be up for either one really, they both improve the team. As far as thinking of Chicago as an East Coast team, and that he doesnt want to play for us, im sure his buddy Jermaine Dye could sway his decision.
  13. the most expendable player is obviously Timo because of the already too many OF's problem. BUt considering his contract and the fact that Ozzie's has a man-crush on him, I would think its gonna be Willie.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Love the chaveztalk.com reference, that is hilarious! If the deal was absolutely perfect, I don't think KW would hesitate dealing any of the prospects ... including McCarthy, Anderson, Sweeney, Gio. That being said I think the odds of any of the four being dealt this year are very very remote. Thanks Jim, I stole it from another member I dont think he is going to deal BMAC or Anderson either, although I wish he would. I do, however, think everyone else in the system is vulnerable to KW's sword.
  15. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Personally, I think they should go after Mackowiak. He is hitting great this season and he is a Chicago area native. Seems like they could get him for a lot less than Chavez. I'd take Randa as well. Always hated that bastard as a Royal. However, if you can make a deal that gives this team a better chance to win the WORLD SERIES this year, DO IT! Mack plays a pretty crappy 3B though, he is thought of as better in the OF than in the IF, and we already have a log jam in the OF.
  16. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) Yeah, the only thing I think we all got right was that most thought Reed or Borchard or both would be involved in the deal. I'll bet if it happens, it's Crede and two prospects not named McCarthy and we pay the contract. Yeah, I didnt think Olivo was included, and at first I was pissed that he was. But in hindsight, we raped them on that trade.
  17. Juggs, my thoughts exactly. When people say that the trade is not for the long term I think about the rammifications of what it would be like to have him instead of KOng as well. Besides haveing a balanced lineup for the next few years, the defensivie IF gets better, and the baserunning gets better. You now have some players that will not clog as much, and have more players hitting to more parts of the field, thus eliminating "blanket" pitch strategies from opposing teams. I like the trade for now and for the next few years. But as Dick Allen said ,"its not gonna happen" so I guess it wont.
  18. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) All the talk is about Chavez for Crede and BMac. I do not know why the Sox are considering trading BMac because he is the future SP in the rotation. Chavez is batting a .218 with 4 hrs this year, Crede is struggling but not that bad. When the Sox make the playoff push they will need to beef up that bullpen. Cotts, Vizciano, and Shingo are doing bad this year; so the Sox should try to get Danys Baez. He is a stud out of the pen and if he does not work then how about, Brandon Lyon from ARI. Think about it, good pen can get you far, and by the way Crede has amazing defense. Future Future Future, the future is now. This is the best start the sox have had since YOU have been a fan. The best thing to do now is try to win now. Chavez not only would bring gold glove defense, but a proven lefthanded bat in the lineup. BMAC is a good pitcher, he may turn into a good #3 starter for the sox, but at the same time, he is a flyball pitcher who gives up too many hr's, not a good thing in our stadium. Secondly, he is extremely unproven at this level. 2 starts, one good, one terrible. He could turn into another ok pitcher, when you could've traded him for one of the best 3B out there. I understand alot of people get the "its mine" sydrome with our prospects, but proven players are worth more than prospects, because they are already proven.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Pot stirrer....? always steff
  20. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) nice sig and avatar thanks?
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) Chances are they hold onto him until mid season next year and trade him. Reason being is after next season he is a free agent and a small market team like the pirates would probally like to get the most out of him. isnt he a free agent after this season?
  22. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Just kind of thinking here, if the Sox do let Paulie walk at the end of the year. I wonder if the Sox could try and swing a deal with Pitt for Craig Wilson to play 1b. I would bet you could get him somewhat cheap from them. Not sure if they would deal him but figured it an idea. At this point, there isnt much value to re-sign paulie, because he doesnt fit our mold of what we are trying to do, and he is going to command more money that we need to spend on him. I think we let him walk.
  23. QUOTE(Seesox @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) omg eww Garland is the hottest player on the White Sox, possibly the in the league.. some people would say Jeter but I think he has a funny haircut Garland also has the ugliest girlfriend
  24. QUOTE(The Gooch @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Just to show how rediculous the all star voting is: -Iguchi is not in the top 5 - Thomas is in the top 5 at DH even though he only has like 3 official AB's - Dye is in the top 15 outfielders - Nomar Garciaparra is 1st at SS and hes been injured for most of the season - Piazza is leading NL catchers You can vote like a billion times, and everyone at the ballparks just stuff it with familiar names. Here are a few players that I think will be left out unfortunatley. Miguel Cabrera Bobby Abreu
  25. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) I think both teams, sans injury, are actually top 5. That's why it's a debate. so why is it that you are so focused on the cubs?
