QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Its in the Herald as a rumor. The guy even wrote most rumors are jokes. You want to know where he got this rumor? From the phony who called MJH and said he heard it on sports radio in the Bay Area, or the guy who said Ken Rosenthal said this deal was being discussed, which was proved to false because someone either on this board or WSI e-mailed Rosenthal himself, and he denied ever saying it and doubted it would ever happen. Or he got i tfrom one of the boards. Think about it. The White Sox giving up their gem of a prospect and picking up a huge and long-term contract at the same time? They don't operate like that. Kind of like giving up jeremy Reed then siging Freddy to a long term contract? :rolly -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Why wouldn't he need to do as much in the White Sox line-up? If the job requires little, why trade one of the best starting pitcher prospects in baseball, a guy who plays the same position and has better numbers than him, and pick up the balance of his huge contract? If you trade for Chavez, which the White Sox are not by the way, you are going to expect huge production. Its not as if the weight of the world will be off his shoulders. Fact is, he wouldnt be a one-man band on a team of AAA players. He would be another cog in the white sox machine, which is the attitude of this team. And stop it with saying Crede has better numbers than him, wait 3 weeks and tell me if that is the case. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) He's still in low A but regardless he's been exceptional so far. Word is he will be in W-S soon. I think that Gio and Liotta are going to be studs in the upcoming years. The knock on Gio was his family issues, but apparently those dont get in the way of his DOMINATION of Kanny. Liotta 4-0 2.45 62.1 IP 54 K's 14BB Gio 4-2 1.77 45.2 IP 71 k's 18BB anyone else drooling? -

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) anyone who bats near Frank usually has an increase in average. Tells you how important the big man is. s***, he can barely hit right now and K-rod wanted nothing to do with him last night. Not to mention having some speedy guys ahead of him and some more dominant leaders in the clubhouse. Ahhhhhhhhhhh -

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) I'm sure Kw would talk with Jermaine Dye and get a run down on Chavez. I was just seeing if anyone knew what Chavez said was wrong with him. He didnt say anything, he said that he will come around and that hes not worried, he sounded pretty calm about the whole thing. Its speculation around Oakland that he is just pushing so hard to make the team win that he is swinging at some bad pitches. he also has no protection in the lineup. -

QUOTE(Nokona @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) Personally, BMac and Anderson are untouchable. Beane can rape us of the rest of our system. Crede/Fields, Sweeney, and Tracey/Gio? Eh, I personally think Gio will be better than BMAC, but thats my opinion. -

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) BTW--what did Chavez attribute his bad start to this yr? I haven't heard much about the original B+B interview I will tell you what I heard from his interview this afternoon, his personality seem to be right in line with AJ and A-row etc. The guy has been put in a leadership role that he is not comfortable with, if he came here, I personally think he would blend in with the character of this team nicely -

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) A BIG factor to consider is--have the Sox had their fill of Joe Crede? If they have--after working with him and finally convincing him to make some changes--then getting a long term fix for a key position [where the sox don't have a Plan B--Josh Fields is probably two yrs away at best] does serve this organization for the short and long term And thats one of my main arguments. I dont want to come off like I think we are the yankees, or that I dont think BMAC is going to be good, you can ask anyone I know that I called his accent over a year ago. I just think that this fills so many of our needs. I think Fields is more than 2 years away, the guy can hit yet, and cant field yet. Also we need a left handed bat, someone who hits to all fields, a faster team, and another clubhouse guy. I feel that he fits these criteria for a successful trade. I may be very wrong, and this trade probably wont happen, but thats my overall opinion about this, and I know people will agree and disagree. Actually I will be at all the games this weekend and we can debate it over some beers if that makes it easier. -

QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Wow! I really wish I could have heard this. Most guys are so PC about everything. I think and hope something is going on. That's two appearances in two days. He wants out fast, he's trying to force Beane's hand. I like the fact that he sounded cocky about how his hitting will get better. It makes me think steroids were not an issue with him. I have been and continue to be on ( if not lead) the "let's get Chavez" bandwagon. then contribue in the thread where im pleading the case, more the merrier -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Better than who? Chavez? No he isn't. I think he is better than Crede though. I think Chavez would be better than Randa in the long run for third base, but certainly not in the long run for our team. Reinsdorf and Co. operate this team on a budget. Unless they plan on spending a ton of money at free will, I don't want to see Chavez in a Sox uni because he will make so much. Who's to say the market won't change in the next 5 years? The average player's salary could go up, or down. Back in 2000 this would've looked like a great contract becuase A-Rod was getting $25 million per, and Manny was getting $20 million per. Who says Konerko will be back next year? Konerko said he'd be willing to take a hometown discount to stay here, but I don't want him back. Why don'y you take a look a who will be getting raises next year? Garland (Due for a big one) Dye Pods (1.4 million raise) Buehrle Garcia Thomas (his buyout will cost $3.5 million) just to name a few. It looks as if Konerko's 2005 salary is already being spent on raises for many players in 2006. So because you think we need to sit back and save money, your suggestion is Randa and Gload next year, or Gload and Fields???? :headshake -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) Sexson>konerko. Tell me when konerko ever has a .900 plus ops. Sexson career ops+ of 111... sexson career ops+ of 123. Sexson also playsa better first base. In this next free agent market, with the option available and not having to go against the likes of Delgado, Konerko will look alot better than Sexon, if not, he may get 1 or 2 million less a year, thats still a ton more than now. -

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) Exactly how are his numbers better? They are very similar. His bat is left-handed. So that makes his terrible numbers better? He can hit to all fields. Grounding out to short and flying out to right are still outs. He does not clog the bases and can steal? Have you ever watched this guy run? I think he gets about 5 steals a year. Big deal. Also, for all the ranting about all the DPs Konerko hits into, Chavez has into one less than Paulie this year. As for the fielding, he's actually won 3 gold gloves, not 4, from 2001-03. He's made NINE errors this year. In my estimation, this guy is not an upgrade over Crede. Even if he is slightly better, I'd rather not trade future talent for this guy, whose numbers may have been inflated by the Giambi Juice. Let me give you some baseball 101 Left handed bat-we dont hit well against righties, he does, fits our lineup as for terrible numbers, please stop looking at your ESPN current numbers thanks. Hitting to all fields, pulling the ball constantly does not fit into our way of playing baseball, being able to hit to right field and the right side of the infield to advance the runner in a situation where we need a run is crucial, Kong cant do this running from 1st to third is crucial when we need a sac fly or escape a DP situation. THIS years stats, come on, look at career numbers Gold Gloves-try a new search engine buddy he has won the gold glove in 2001, 2002 , 2003, and 2004 that would be four, he also won the 2002 silver slugger award. If you dont see that having an all star caliber 3B with FOUR gold gloves is not an upgrade over Credemaybe take a look at career avg's OBP SLG and OPS maybe that will help. If not I would suggest taking a walk over to the urinal on 1060 west addison, they will take care of you over there. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Indeed. With the current free agent market, if Chavez goes back to performing like he normally does it's a very good contract. s*** Error-amis Ramirez is making 10.5 in 2006 11 in 2007 and 11.5 in 2008 and he got a home town discount and I would rather have Chavez. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) He's guaranteed $66 million over 6 years. It's still a lot but let's be accurate. Beltre got that much for 5 years, Glaus got 4 years 45 million. And Chavez fits our needs better than those two. You are getting a premier 3B for under what the new market value is, of course this is a good contract. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) At any costs??? How about we trade Crede for something small and get a stop-gap like Joe Randa? Don't you think that Billy Beane can get a much better offer over the next SIX YEARS for Eric Chavez than a struggling Crede and top prospect? Any cost, that is below market value for a player in a position that we desperately need, yes I would do it in a second. If your main argument to this is what will that do to our payroll, and your love for Joe Randa, we are never going to see Eye to eye. Because if you think Randa is a better player you are crazy. If you think Randa is better in the long run, you have got to be kidding me. This makes sense, he basically takes Kong's place in the payroll, this is close to what it will cost to keep kong and sign Crede in arbitration. If we dont sign Crede then we have no 3B, got it? -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Here is the scouting report on Chavez, this sounds like a player that would fit into what we are trying to accomplish on this team. Hitting As natural a hitter as one will find, Chavez has good reactions and ever-improving strike-zone judgment, as his quantum leap in on-base percentage in 2004 reflects. He hits to all fields. In a season of statistical quirks for Oakland, Chavez hit 49 points higher against southpaws than righthanders last summer, but slugged 30 points higher versus righties. Over his career, Chavez has been a better performer with runners aboard or in scoring position, and a .340 hitter with the bases loaded. Baserunning & Defense Chavez has excellent speed and is a smart baserunner. He can steal a base and easily move from first to third when circumstances permit. Defensively, Chavez can pick the hot corner with the best of them. Watching him on a short hop, or turning a 360, zeroing in on first base and gunning a throw to retire a runner can be nothing short of breath-taking. I hate to quote myself, but yes yes yes yes yes -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Is it in the contract by name that Billy Beane has to take care of his dogs? Seriously folks, take a look at that f***ing contract breakdown and tell me a.) it's worth the giving him all that money over these next 6 years b.) it would only cost Crede and McCarthy. Let's put this thing to rest already..... Ok, lets put it to rest, we can pay a Gold Glove all star 3B below market value for the duration of his contract which extends through the typical peak years, or we could be stuck with jack s*** when Crede walks......uh yeah lets put it to bed that we should get Chavez. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) I agree, it's not. To keep it short, I don't believe including our highly touted, highly regarded pitching prospect in a trade for Eric Chavez is necessary. When McCarthy fills out his lanky figure, you can (likely) expect an increase in velocity. Even if he doesn't, his talent is still beneficial to our club. I can understand the question of awaiting McCarthy to fulfill his potential when Chavez has already proven it, but in this instance: with the factor of Beane, Chavez' contract, and our payroll, I wouldn't touch Mac. His velocity may go up, and the Hr's may then travel farther, the trade makes sense for both teams, now and in the next few years. We cn agree to disagree, but I am so for this trade its ridiculous, and I lOVE BMAC. -
