QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) I would say OCab is top 5, but not Tejada or Jeter Vizquel, Young, Tejada, OC

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) I wouldn't trade Uribe's defense for any other SS. There might be some guys who are slightly better, but no one who makes him look like the second coming of Jose Valentin. Uribe's defense at SS may very well be the least of our concerns. You are right about that, we should worry about his hitting.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) Yes, seriously. I've thought our outfield defense has been terrible this year. The throws by our outfielders have been terrible all year. Hell, the best throw of the year, by Pods at Oakland, was screwed by the ump. I don't think Pods has got very good jumps on balls (no shock to anyone who saw him in Milwaukee), Dye has been well below what we expected in RF, and Rowand had dropped some pretty catchable balls. Combine that with Everett's pathetic display in 2 games in the outfield, as well as Timo continuing to show absolutely no range.....and you have the basis of a poor defensive outfield. I guess maybe I just see it as great because of the HUGE improvement over an OF of Maggs, Lee, Everett, Harris. Spod doesnt get good jumps, but his speed does make up for it. Timo has a canon, no range. A-row catches alot of uncatchable balls and Dye has been uncharacteristically error-prone. As far as the throws go, we havent had a ton of assists, but their ability to throw has ALOT of runnners holding on third.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Juan is a top 3 defensive SS in baseball. Eh, I dont know about that one.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) I've been a little disappointed in Rowand's outfield play this year. He's dropped some VERY catchable fly balls, and his arm so far has been nothing short of awful. As a whole, our outfield has been extremely disappointing on defense this season. It's nowhere near the strength that people thought it would be coming into the season Seriously??? I think he has made it to several gap shots and short pop ups that would'vve been dropped in previous years. I think the defense has been good, with the exception of Dye's errors, I think we have caught many balls that we wouldnt have before. I think that the speed has gotten us several more outs, and the good jumps that we have been getting have spoiled us into thinking balls have to be caught.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) the reds need pitching so obviously they are going to want crede but maybe we could throw in adkins or cotts id rather have ryan freel= Im a big reds fan, so part of me doesnt want them to get ripped off in THAT deal.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Nite, I like them both but I would say Uribe is the better SS. Way better arm and for some reason with that awkward style of his he's great w/the glove and will only get better. I see what you're saying about him being suited for 2B but from my view it's because Uribe is such a good athlete he did a fine job at 2B and 3B also. So much so they wanted to keep him as the super sub and bring in Vizquel. Uribe was clearly brought in to be the SS of the future, and I think there's a reason why Pablo has basically been a career reserve. No one thought enough of him to offer him a 40 man spot, even after a very good AAA year last year. He had to have a world beater spring to make the White Sox. I'm very happy to have Ozuna and like him a lot, but I think Uribe is definitely more talented as a SS, on several levels. Except maybe drawing walks and laying down bunts LOL. Wasnt Ozuna hurt? and missed a year, and thats why he was stuck in the minors?
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Uribe had the very best zone rating along with izturis last year. How can you deny the fact that he has great range? Nothing you have said makes me believe that ozuna will get to more balls than uribe does. Why because he is faster? Their are alot faster short stops than uribe but that doesn't make them any better of a fielder. Uribe gets good reads on the ball and has excellent jumps more so than almost any infielder in baseball. But stats mean nothing or very little. Speed is overrated in the field, look at A-row in CF. Alot of people will complain about his range, and his speed, but the guy gets ridiculous reads on the ball when it comes off the bat, not to mention he takes some of the best routes to fly balls that I have ever seen. Some players just seem to be in the right place at the right time all the time. One player who stands out in my mind other than A-row is Vizquel, the guy doesnt have the strongest arm, and isnt crazy fast,(but he is quick) but the guy is flat out one of the best SS's i have ever seen.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Really? That is why he was tied with izturis for the best zone rating out of any shortstop with a significant amount of time at short. Easy killer, I didnt say he was a bad SS, I like him in that spot for sure, the guy has a cannon. As far as his range factor, im not even sure how to calculate that, the point I was making was the positions that they played coming up. I wouldnt want anyone else to play SS for us at this point, I love that crazy bastard.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) It's obvious to anyone that knows Jim and I that I am the bigger fan.. but yesterday true to man form when they lost the lead yesterday Jim comes out of the house swearing up a storm.. his mama just loved that.. especially since she's a Cub fan. I don't start getting pissed about this stuff until August. I go to a minimum of 40 games a year, try to get the most out of my season tickets, but yesterday, im sad to say, I got soo pissed that I left in the middle of the ninth, got on the red line pissed off as hell. When i checked my phone for the score and we won, I kicked myself for leaving. I wont do that anymore. Frank returning to the lineup is going to bring a spark to the team, he is HOF'er and gives everyone more confidence. Also I heard that he has been teaching Uribe patience at the plate which helped him bust out last year, hopefully he can do that again.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Aww cmon, I'll almost play for free. I think its mostly the hygeine factor.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 31, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) I doubt it, I was never a good hitter. I was a damn good fielder, though. A lot of posters on this board would love me. Nope, you would disrupt the clubhouse chemistry.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) LOL, so now Ozuna is a better SS than Uribe? I'm not sure I can respond because I'm laughing too hard. Once again, you are dead wrong. I dont think he was saying that, I think he was saying that Ozuna's natural position coming up was SS, and Uribe is more suited for 2B. I agree with the first part , but not the second, Uribe's arm is more suited for 3B than anything, that boy has a canon, his mobility is lack, but he is usually well positioned.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) I think it was the suggestion that BMac could bring Lidge, Oswalt, or even Ensberg to the Sox that got the thread deleted. The thread came off a little "Why dont we trade BMAC for whomever we want", and it irritated everyones aggravating baby rash today. Imagine the vitriol being spouted had the Sox lost? get used to it, the next 0-4 game that anyone has will bring about more trade threads than you could possibly imagine. I, for one, am trying to stay positive through everything, and as much as yesterday pissed me off, I saw lots of good things.

QUOTE(ISF @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) I can't begin to express how much I disagree with this. Uribe has been a Godsend to a position that was mucked up consistently by Jose E-6 Valentin. He DOES lead the league in sacrafice flies.....I just wish he wasnt such a streaky hitter.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) I think I'll pass on the Old Style. :puke High life is more my speed, but I like the occassional Old Style.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) Do you think the Sox negotiated a bit with Garcia's agent before pulling the trade off, seeing as he signed the 3 year deal almost immediately? Again, different circumstances because you're talking about a #2 proven starting pitcher who was being chased after by a few teams, not the least of which was the NYY. Totally different than Joe Randa. Is Randa related to Ozzie???

Old Tiger stadium-basically a lot like Comiskey, steep UD Wrigley-worst I've been to, bad placement of everything, cramped, terrible exit and entry, horrible food. Miller Park-great stadium, I wish I was there when the roof was open, beer vendors are extremely plentiful, food was just ok. Coors field-blah everything was stupid and cartoonish, didnt like it at all, great city though. Great American Ballpark-great stadium, sat in the club level, had fast service great food and very nice seats.

per rotoworld b****es Indians activated outfielder Juan Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list. He's expected to be in tonight's starting lineup. When Gonzalez plays, the Indians will only have room for two from the group of Casey Blake, Grady Sizemore and Jody Gerut in their outfield. Gerut may lose the most playing time even though he's been the team's best hitter lately. It'd be for the best if Blake started getting time at third base. May. 31 - 1:

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) Just close your eyes and you pick the guy you like the most instead of using stats. Why do you think they record Batting averages and other stats. Hey maybe we should make Shingo our closer again. I mean throw out the ERA or his ability to give up the long ball, that frisbee is pretty cool and I like him. Wow, you can look at both sides of the coin on this argument, so I wont even humor you, considering I was kidding in the first place. Everyone on here needs to take a xanax, drink an Old style and breathe.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) I could care less if they trade Crede for Randa or just prospects. As long as we trade for Randa or a 3rd baseman that can hit better than .225 and let Cruddy ride the pine. Then they can decide on what to do with Cruddy after the season is over. Once again, Chavez

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Baseball is a stats based game. If am sure that if we ignore Range Factor and Fielding percentage Jose Valentin is a better defender also than Joe Randa. LOL. Billy Beane is that you?????
