QUOTE(beck72 @ May 10, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) Because Dye has performed well over the years, esp when healthy. By all accounts, he's healthy now. With the weather warming up, Dye's numbers will as well. Rowand, another CA guy like Dye, also has started slow in April and May. Playing in Chicago/ midwest in the spring may take getting used to. Yeah cause Dye never played in the midwest

Backing a young player who hasnt lived up to his potential is one thing, thinking that an aging veteran will bounce back to his year 2000 potential is another. As far as playing both sides of the ball, I believe he leads the team in errors.

QUOTE(beck72 @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) Dye will be fine. Unless an OFer goes down to injury, anderson won't come near Chi. this year. I dont understand where you can come up with Dye will be fine. He hasnt been producing the last few years, and is showing the signs of a serious decline. While we have a few players on our bench, and a SERIOUS propspect who is hitting over 300 with several hr's in AAA.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 10, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) The good news is, Brian Anderson is a phone call away in an emergency where the White Sox are forced to see what he can do. Barring a September call up, that is the only way Anderson will play for the White Sox this year ... if there's an emergency or a couple of longer term injuries. That said, the error by Dye last nite was very boneheaded ... as was his at bat late in the game. It's very fair to say he needs to get it into gear. But to say he is done or he has lost it ... that's a big jump to conclusions IMO. How has his product been the last few years though? His only really good season was in KC a while back. The chemistry of the team is one thing, I think adding a hungry rookie to a team of hungry players can only add some fire, not take away from it.

I was just thinking about this as we were talking about who to trade for at the deadline. I think one of our major problems right now is Dye in RF. He has been a defensive liability and cannot seem to get hits at the right time. Would you rather keep him there, bring someone off the bench, bring up Anderson, or trade? I for one would like to see what Anderson can do.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 10, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) This is the thing that's been pissing me off the most about Dye. He had an error yesterday. He had a big error against the Twins that helped cost Buehrle the game. He dropped that fly ball in Oakland. At some point, Anderson does become a better option. The only problem is that at this point, you cant really take him out of the lineup and he has no trade value. Im just waiting for his freak injury to happen so we can explore whether or not Anderson has what it takes in the bigs.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 10, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) I'd deal any prospect not named Anderson or McCarthy.... Anyone else can be dealt.. I disagree,Gio, Liotta, Sweeney, Fields, are also untouchable in my book.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 10, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Who's to say that Anderson isn't better than Dye next year? No way I make that trade, it's a gross overpayment. who's to say that Anderson isnt better than Dye THIS year. Dye is finished, his decline has become more and more evident. Im sick of people saying that he is under pressure to perform with his new team, hmmmm seems to be killing gooch, spod, hermy, viz, AJ, Duque.

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ May 10, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I've said for a while that the current outfield situation is going to to lead to Anderson being dealt, and I stand by that. Of course, I'd love to just flip Rowand off for Wagner, but Anderson's upside is so much higher than Rowand's. On the idea of getting Wagner, I'd love it, and you're getting arguably the most dominant reliever in all of baseball when healthy. He's only 33 and can still hit triple digits, and is limiting batters to an under .200 clip. If, in July, we need Wagner, go get him. f*** that, deal Dye, I would rather have anderson up right now than see jermaine pop out up at bat with men on base. Not to mention the fact that he was supposed to be a defensive upgrade, how many errors does he have already? Wagner is injury prone and dealing someone just to make a move doesnt make sense. We have the best bullpen in baseball right now, why mess with it.
-
Anderson is flat out performing at AAA, he will be ready next year, or the end of this. No way to go out and cubs ourselves and trade our prospects for one-year players. I dont think there should be any interest from us to adding any memebers to the bullpen. The only thing I could see is a big bat in the lineup to protect Pauly.
-
Thats the ral question then, would you rather have Garcia or Reed and Morse.
-
all that DJ talked about was Robin's career, and what Robin would do in a situation, it was kinda strange. I would rather Robin give his own insight instead of DJ flattering him all game.

QUOTE(rangercal @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) That means frank would play every 4 days. I don't like it. I agree, I think Frank plays every day, considering he will get on base more than almost anyone in the League. I think that this may take care of itself as Dye is due for a freak injury pretty soon. BUt we can always use the 4 man rotation in the OF going into the dog days of summer and keep everyone a little fresh.
-
Frank needs to be in the lineup for his OBP and letting other players get some pitches. You can have a rotation of Carl, Dye, whoever in the OF if need be
-
I think that addisonstsox had a really great post in that thread which tells why this would have been a bad deal. Its almost Prophetic. Garland is the best 5th starter in the game, Anderson is thriving in the minors, and we got much more not doing the trade. Pretty good moves by KW. Not to mention I was completely wrong about the RJ trade.
-
if olivo is dropped or benched, I think it pretty much makes us look like bandits on that trade.
-
we will never trade with the cubs again, mark it
-
so many numbers, and it makes so little sense.
-
Wiki Gonzalez may get the bulk of the playing time at catcher for the Mariners this week. Manager Mike Hargrove said Gonzalez will start behind the plate tonight and ''beyond that, too.'' Miguel Olivo is hitting just .139 this season. May. 9 - 9:28 am et Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Brian Anderson and Gio Gonzalez Interviews
RockRaines replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
Its gotta make you happy, when Gio is called the best prospect and we have a major league ready arm in AAA dominating as we speak. I cant wait to see this rotation in the next few years. -
