  1. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Sorry, I agree with him. Ozzie comes across not just outspoken, but angry and vindictive too. In business and in life I like straight at you direct, to the point, outspoken people. What Ozzie does is way beyond this. On another note, yes we Sox fans and our team are the poor neglected red haired step children of American sports. The national media would love to see the cute adorable ones from the north side in the playoffs much more than they'd like to see the Sox be there. Still, the degree of reflexive circle the wagons mentality about each and every little slight isn't going to help the cause. If the Sox keep winning, the media will have to shine the spotlight on our team. It would be a good thing if our "outspoken" manager would keep that in mind and learn to pick his times to go off with a little more discretion. Would you rather have Jerry Manuel back??? We knew what we were getting with Ozzie, he has been the same person even when he was a player. I think its fine that he says what he says, half the time he doesnt mean what he says because he just doesnt know english as well as he should. Let them put the spotlight on him, then the team has less to read about themselves and can keep on winning. Ozzie
  2. QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Thomas coming back wouldn't create the best situation. He can't run...he's not fast, and he doesn't fit our plans. Very very true, it would definatley hurt our speed demon lineup with AJ and Paulie.
  3. I would rather have a packers fan on here than a cubs fan. Northsiders really suck the wang. see this northsider? It means not welcome, in the great words of DJ, uh oh byebye
  4. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) Well he isn't 100% either but he is a warrior a lot of guys wouldn't have played yesterday but we have no one that normally is a first baseman so he is sticking it out for us even though a couple days off would be great for him BTW, Rogo would probably be the last person I would ever want to see charge the mound if I was a pitcher. He would dominate someone
  5. Frank is one of my all time favorite players, and I honestly think he could contribute greatly this year with his walks, and at least scaring some pitchers. But I see this as the last glimpse of a great player in Chicago. If he doesnt come back this year, he is gone until he retires. This news is terrible.
  6. f***, I dont see Frank coming back at all this season.
  7. I understand that there are these downloads from websites to get more current rosters, but how do you get that on your xbox after its on your computer???
  8. I think its bulls*** because the billy goat tavern has long been a cubs fans hangout, so why would the owner curse the team?
  9. QUOTE(ISF @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 08:22 AM) I'm not sure how I feel about that possibility. On one hand, it's a low-pressure situation for B-Mac to get a taste of the big leagues during regular season. He'd know it's just 1-2 starts, not like he's auditioning for Contreras' spot. On the other hand, I'd hate to see his confidence take a shot if we brought him up and he got roughed up. I think he's tough enough mentally to handle that scenario. I just wonder how the team would handle it if that happened. I think its been proven obvious that his mental makeup is probably his strongest talent which has lead him to succeed, unless you think its his blazing heater
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) This team's lack of discipline at the plate WILL come back to haunt them. The attitude is great, the W's are great, but they must get the offense going sooner rather then later. So far, this team has caught every single break. What will happen when they face some adversity? I have a funny feeling Oakland will provide that adversity. I dont feel that its their discipline that hurts their walk total. I think its the lack of respect that opposing pitchers have for our lineup. We routinely pitch around other teams hitters, but ours dont exactly strike fear into anyone.
  11. Thomas calls recovery 'really frustrating' Foot injury has 'Big Hurt' thinking rehab long way off Monday, April 25, 2005 By Joe Cowley Staff writerKANSAS CITY, Mo. — Forget a May return. June might be a reach, too. Heck, the way Frank Thomas was feeling Sunday, he would gladly consider a return to the White Sox by the All-Star break a success story. The Sox slugger continues to battle tendinitis in his left foot, which forced him to cease all baseball activity for a week in mid-April. At this point, it's a losing battle, and a rehab stint in the minors any time soon is wishful thinking. "We've got to try and do something with this, because it's getting to the point where it's getting really frustrating," Thomas said Sunday. "I don't know what we're going to do. (Head trainer Herm Schneider) says it's just one of those things. It's not like it was an overnight injury that just heals up. "This is excruciating. After I run, it's just really, really sore. I ran the other day (Friday), and I ran hard, and it was really sore. I don't know what we're going to do now. Hopefully, we'll come up with something." Thomas received a cortisone shot two weeks ago in an attempt to ease the pain. While the foot was far from 100 percent, it felt good enough for the 36-year-old to try and run hard on it Friday. He paid for it Saturday. "I don't think (the shot) worked," Thomas said. "It worked for about one week. Now it's just about grinning and bearing it, hope it gets to the point where the pain is just second nature." Thomas insists his surgically repaired navicular bone is not the problem. However, the residual effects from that surgery — he was in a cast for months, basically locking his foot at a 90-degree angle — made the tendon weak. The hope was the cortisone shot would help Thomas get to the point where he could run and begin his rehabilitation in Charlotte. Now, that rehab stint isn't even on the radar. Until it is, Thomas will remain with the club to keep working with Schneider and to stay close to his teammates. "Hermie and I ... we've just got to get a gauge on what's happening. That's the most important thing right now," Thomas said. "I have to remain patient, stay focused, because I'm not the first one to try and come back from a major injury. "But watching this team play like they have is key. One of the things Hermie said is, 'Thank God we're playing well.' We aren't going to rush it. We don't need to rush it. It was a serious injury. It's not going to let me do what I want to do anyway. On some days, I can't even do anything."
  12. QUOTE(1549 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) I have dreamed of going to michigan, and was born and raised a Michigan football fan. I applied in October...6 months later, a letter from the university. I'm on the extended waiting list. This means that I will be attending Rutgers University next fall. Home of the first, and the worst, football team in America. I am not completely disappointed, I get to stay in New Jersey, and my two best friends and my girlfriend are attending Rutgers (I've heard the whole school with friends thing is not a good idea, but f*** it I'm gonna have fun). I obviously hold no grudges against the maize and blue...my dad is still renewing his season tickets. Here is to a great season for the maize and blue, even if I won't be sitting in the student section GO BUCKS!!!
  13. Note to ESPN, please dont talk about us anymore. Thanks -The White Sox
  14. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) This ^ should have been in green. All the Nomar 'roid' talk is speculation at this point. He didn't gel at Boston, so what, that's 1 team, AJ didn't 'gel' in SF and so far it seems like we love him. I'd take a healthy Nomar on the Sox any day. AJ was there one season, which makes it easy to get rid of someone so quickly, not to mention that they didnt go on to win the WS. Nomar was the pride and joy of Boston, yet when they traded him, they posted a huge division comeback and had the chemistry to come back and beat the yankees and then sweep the Cards. Its hard not to admit. I would rather have a bag of balls, Nomar's .158 avg and below average defense doesnt help anyone.
  15. I agree with your posts Juggs, I think that Uribe and Gooch is the best dp tandem since Joey and Ozzie. I really like the way Gooch turns 2, and I think that Uribes arm is a large reason why we get so many close plays.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) HA HA! Hysterical! I don't believe anyone here is talking about 1 pitch. I think those that don't like this act are talking about the consistency of it. It is not just one fan for one pitch, but a growing amount of fans who think this is ok. This makes it go from being 1 pitch missed to 90% of the pitches missed. Thank you for adding your wonderful insight though. I honestly think you arent talking about anything, just ran out of things to b**** about. This thread has gone on so long, without any purpose. So far we have learned this: 1.nobody wants there to be smoking in the seats-its not allowed anyway, and if someone is doing it the ushers usually grab them in between innings from what i see, if not, move, there are lots of open seats. 2.Nobody likes to miss any pitches-no bathoom breaks then, and we will hold a class educating every casual fan about the nuances of being a fan 3.These are common problems at EVERY sporting event-there is really no way to stop it unless we confront every person who goes to every different game. bottom line-deal with it
  17. seriously, how is this thread still going on, can someone lock it, this is pointless in my eyes. You had a bad time, tough, dont go to anymore games. I have had bad experiences at games as well, that doesnt stop me from going to every game that I can make.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) Hmmmm ... I didn't know Nomar spent 86 years with Red Sox. Re-reading my post, I guess I didnt mean to write that he has played with the red sox since the curse started
  19. Im a season ticket holder, and I dont like people who are ignorant about the general rules of watching baseball either. But in all honesty, the freakin hat game annoys me more than that. Just dont go to the game on half price night and you will be fine. Lets just keep winnin!!!!!!!!!
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) WOW, but it seemed like they were trying to get rid of everyone they perceived to be a cancer this off season, even in the press box, why not Nomar? Two curses are his fault too? What makes you think he used roids? They werent trying to get rid of the cancer in the clubhouse, they were trying to instill hope in their fan base, dont read the tribune so much. I never said the curses are his fault, but it does seem kinda ironic that there was a long drought, they trade him to another contender, then the team gells and pulls of a WS title. The team he goes to, chokes and doesnt make the playoffs. As far as roids go, his tremendous drop-off and his tendon-related injuries.
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) Tell me, what kind of person do I think Magg is? How would I know that? From blips in the paper? I don't think Maggs is squeaky clean in this whole thing, far from it. I remember Maggs turning down the contract offer, I remember him being asked about it and giving an answer. I must have missed the quotes with him whining and b****ing about it while he was with the Sox. And if he did, it's old news, he's gone, why reply when he rehashes it?.....game over, shut it Ozzie. Good point, I cannot read your mind...Guess I was wrong Point is, I think that Maggs was a great player for the sox, produced in ways that we hadnt seen in a long time. But the character flaws are coming into light now. He told ownership not to hire Ozzie-personal attack, he left the city that he said he wanted to stay in for the possibility of more money-greedy, he now says unsolicitied that Ozzie is his enemy and he wouldnt talk to him-personal attack. What do you expect Ozzie to do in that situation, knowing who Ozzie is. He is not Phil Jackson, when he got Ozzie we knew that he was the type of person who responds honestly, and when personally attacked, again, of course he is going to respond. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, then you should write JR and tell him to re-hire Manuel. I think that Ozzie's response was fine, Maggs is acting like a little girl. I do not hate him because he is not on our team, in fact I still Love El Caballo among others, but Maggs is not the person I thought he was, because if he wasnt a whiner, then he wouldnt have said what he said, and he could of taken the high road.
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) I actually really like Nomar too. I think he's a superstar and by that I don't mean that he's the best in the game, but he is solid. On top of being a solid player when healthy, he has a very markeatable personality. Good personality, good with the media, always smiling, always seems to say the right thing, the little rituals at the plate, having a famous athlete wife doesn't hurt, etc. All of that makes him an attraction. Too bad he's hurt. I disagree, I believe intently that he is a clubhouse cancer. Last year when he was hurt and they were playing the yankees, his whole team was on the top step of the dugout while he was sitting in the corner. 30 days later he was traded, and the rest is history. His new team looked like a favorite to make the playoffs as the WC holder, but when he arrived they nosedived. I firmly believe that he is one of the reasons that the Red Sox never overcame the curse, and I believe that he was a definite steroid user. I dont think he is a good guy at all.
  23. Paulie is going to need a rest eventually, so Gload will get his chance, plus he is a good option off of the bench in late innings. He will be fine, think of the alternative, he could be in Charlotte, where you have to carry your own bags.
  24. Im sure missing 4 pitches during the game didnt ruin your life. Sometimes I need to piss too, it happens. Somebody end this thread, its worthless.
  25. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) When did Maggs whine while he was here?... and when did Ozzie or anyone else criticize his play? Most of this started after he was gone. I think the bashing of some former Sox players by the Sox is too bad, it's even more sad that a big part of the fan base buy into it. They're gone, it didn't work out, move on. I guess we have find a reason to hate them too. I dont need someone else to make me buy into anything. When you whine and cry about your huge contract not being large enough, thats anough for me. Its nice that you are trying to take the high road on the argument, but its already come to light that Maggs is not the person you think he is, otherwise his comments wouldnt be as such.
