  3. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) The MVP awards are not a definitive argumentative approach considering how many guys in MLB history are damn good for a few years, and then flame out without having put up great stats over at least a decade. Guys like Juan Gonzalez and Roger Maris have won 2 MVP awards apiece. Are they HOF worthy? No way. Ted Kluszewski was an absolute beast of a hitter for a number of years...easily a top MVP candidate every year for at least 5 years straight. Is he a Hall Of Famer? Nope. Besides, the MVP is uusually a BS award. Otherwise, Jordan would have won it every year. Sportswriters like new blood. It's retarded. Given the steroids Juan Gone may not be an HOF'er, but he has proven to be a dominant player, six silver slugger awards and 2 MVP's are pretty good resume builders, not to mention his ranks in hitting and HOF standards. Frank finished in the top 10 in MVP voting 8 times, that is definatley a worthy stat, even if you think its political. As for Maris, he has pretty good stats over his career (7 time all-star, led AL in rbi's two years, seven world series, and the single season home run record by a natural player) but he doesnt have 500 hr's and didnt hit 300 for his career, which will get Frank in.
  4. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) Or Diaz, Munoz or Cotts. Don't call up a guy who is not ready. But he has been better than all of those pitchers in ST. Not to mention he dominated one of the best offensive lineups in baseball yesterday. In my opinion we should start him down, but if something happens he should be the first inserted for sure. He is better than all of those other guys.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) There are two ways that Frank can have his 95% on the first ballot solidified. #1 get to .500 HRs without taking 5 years to do it. #2 Get the Sox into the World Series. He already is going to get a huge lift by all of the steroid controversy, because he is the one star hitter that you KNOW wasn't doped up during the 90's and his numbers STILL stand out. Well, how many 2-time MVP's are not in the HOF=1 Plus if Giambi was not juicing in 2000 Frank would have won his third MVP crown, and there is no doubt that a three time MVP should be in the hall. Even so, the fact that he is a 2-time MVP, will have 500 hr's alone will get him in the hall. Plus he is starting to get positive press for being the only one willing to testify about steroids, this may help his public image in the long run.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) What!??!?!? Talking about a movie in a game thread? :headshake The nerve. Willie, you should know better. yeah, I mean its almost as bad as a page long signature.
  7. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Dontrlle willis only had six starts in double a before he was called up to the majors and he never looked back. exactly, I referenced that earlier. With their situation though, they did need another pitcher to help in the rotation. I agree that BMAC should start down in the minors, but im sure he will be up by the end of the season.
  8. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) First, if I ever said a 21 cannot physically pitch in the majors, I'd like to retract that. That's not what I mean. My main thing is the lack of experience. Neil did not have AAA experience. Second, I was under the impression you wanted him to be put into the starting rotation. I wouldn't be against him coming into the bullpen sometime later this year. So sorry about that. I was referencing that if they brought him up, him, freddy and mark could be a nasty three-headed monster for the next few years. I am all about seeing what he can do at AAA, but the fact is, I think he could be a better pitcher than several arms that we have brought up over the past year or two. He has something that they dont have.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) Wtfish. I have no clue what you are trying to say here either. the first part was a quote from Major League 2.....guess you dont watch sports movies, check that maybe you are too young for that movie.
  10. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:31 PM) of those pitchers you're talking about, all of them had much more experience than mccarthy. keep in mind you are advocating putting someone into our starting rotation who has had 4 starts at AA. I never once said put in him the rotation right now, we have 5 more pitchers with more experience. All im saying is that I believe he is ready, has the personality and demeanor, and age should not be something that should hold someone back. You keep pointing to the fact that he is 21, well there are younger people in the bigs. Even with his 4 starts at AA, he has been fluid and downright dominating in ST vs big league players. I understand that you want to seem relaxed and intelligent about bringing a player up too soon. BUt frankly this guy is ready to be tested. He should definatley start at AAA, and should be the first arm they bring up if they have to. You have to admit, he has looked better than Neil, Adkins, Diaz, Munoz, Garland, and they all have AAA and big league experience. You cant coach what this kid has, and you have to recognize that.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Yes, and he has been awesome. dynamite drop in, that broadcasting school has really paid off. And if we are going to now bring this debate to age, I would recommend so back up to the opinions considering that some of the best pitchers in thie city were brought up in their early 20's.
  12. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) all had AAA experience. oh, so now age isnt a factor, its how many years they play in AAA??? Make up your mind. Im not going to beat a dead horse any longer. Fact is, in any sport, age doesnt matter, the player matters. And in some cases even 18 and 19 year olds succeed if they are the right player with the right frame of mind. I have to say that BMAC's confidence and demeanor make him a player that I think can succeed if they happen to bring him up sometime this year, thats all.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Meh, don't be to worried about it addy. Cause the lineups are so different day in and day out your going to have an inconsistant offense most likely during st. heres the thing, they arent getting all their runs on homeruns, and they seem to be spacing out scoring across several innings. That is a different trend than previous teams. Plus its not 7 runs on 6 hits, its 12 hits, which is nice.
  14. QUOTE(3E8 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) since when does arod pitch? sorry, cubs shoulda thought twice about bringing zambrano, prior and wood up too soon. They really struggle against major league hitting.
