QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 08:16 AM) It's because Jeff Bezos, who owns Amazon, also owns the Washington Post. Amazon literally keeps the USPS afloat. Dude is as dumb as rocks.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Mar 30, 2018 -> 12:01 AM) I just saw Jumanji. Thought it was pretty solid actually. I expect to hate it, and only watched because the girlfriend wanted to see it, but surprisingly enjoyable. Right? I rented it on a flight and it was enjoyable. The girl with the legs helped

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 11:05 PM) That second AB was painful to watch. He got much better swings off later in the game, though. I thought for sure that one ball was gone. He'll be just fine. Caught it a little inside and it was still a rope if you look at the stats. Thats a good sign

QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:59 PM) Probably, but still a very valuable piece to a team. Yolmer really may turn out to be a keeper. And he seems to be incredibly well liked in the room. He was a 2.1 WAR player last year. You cannot let that get away at his age. A 26 year old that can play multiple positions, hit from both sides and is a plus defender at probably 2 of those positions is valuable to a contending team. Of course maybe someone will figure this out and trade us some s*** at deadline
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:49 PM) Yolmer is still only 25 himself they got some kids that can play, and Jose ain't no bum either. Exciting infield this year. Yolmer will always be underrated. Only advanced stats guys appreciate how good he is. BUT, on a WS contending team, hes a super sub IMO.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:32 PM) Tim Anderson has tremendous top hand. so uh, when can I embed a tweet! SS2K, come on, you're a bit excited, right? Seriously, I hope he's coming into his own. The middle infield could be f***ing ridiculous for a long time. That contract f***ed him up last season

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:26 PM) One game, Greg. Like someone else said, let's see a sustained improvement in walk rate and K rate before we get too excited. It was certainly nice to see the power display, today, though. Nope, im on the Greg train here. Switch came on.

I liked Jumanji more than Shape of Water. Sorry. That movie didnt pull me in at any point. Im a sucker for love stories, but it didnt touch me at all. Logan Lucky was a nice surprise.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:23 PM) Not to be a dick who pats myself on the back but do you all give me credit for my Davidson love? As you know I praised him all last year and got blasted for doing so. Good job Greg. I hope you are right for the duration of the season

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:21 PM) And the starting goalie from Rancho Cucamonga gets hurt, so in comes a 36 year old rookie from Johnnys Ice House who last played at Western Michigan 11 years ago. And he stops all 7 shots! That was f***ing awesome. I hope he goes out tonight. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 09:50 PM) I had to leave home after the 2nd inning... three hours later I was able to come back and resume the game. Call me shocked. ???? Same. I went into a meeting at 3:30 and came out at 5:30 and wow.

Tanking is no fun. Hopefully the new guys step up next season and we pull in some FA talent. I hate not caring about hockey -
QUOTE (heirdog @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 07:18 PM) Anyone else concerned that each of Matt Davidson?€™s subsequent HRs had less distance, launch angle and exit velocity? He was coming back down to Earth with each shot and I think it?€™s fair to assume he won?€™t keep up this pace as he clearly was getting tired as the game wore on. ???? He saw the ball and smoked it every time. Thats a huge step for him. It was extremely positive IMO. He's a pretty perfect DH that can also sub in the field. If he cuts down the walks his power will offset the K's. Heres to hoping the light came on

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 12:28 PM) Anyone still in here? Pretty solid guest appearance from Derrick, maybe he'll be back next season. No chance Devin actually takes out Johnny, right? Zero percent chance.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 08:29 AM) Yeah, it was a mad panic for my CPA relative as everyone in their company had to work tons of overtime between when the bill passed (12/20 or so) and the end of the year to reformulate all of their clients' tax plans. On the IRS side, it won't hit the auditors directly for a few years, but the person I know on that side spent decades in the corporate tax world as did many of his colleagues. Maybe it's a biased sample, but it doesn't seem like most IRS auditors have spent their entire careers there. There was lots of coverage, and still is, regarding the pass-through tax loophole and how a lot of accountants are salivating over all of the new creative ways they can structure their clients' taxes. Like so many things in the tax world, it comes down to how you can classify different types of income to best advantage your clients, and the new law is really murky. Rather than simplifying anything, it made it even more complex for these sorts of clients (if you're a typical W-2 wage earner, it's not really relevant) https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/201...-blow-wide-open The GOP tax plan creates one of the largest new loopholes in decades You can agree ideologically with a trickle-down approach and still recognize that this tax cut bill didn't simplify anything and doesn't meet the GOP promises of being focused on middle-class tax relief. Really good quotes there. That jives with what my CPA told me. The standard deduction for my income level is less than 50% what I do when I itemize. So what you do is make a pass through business to park income/services and deduct your taxes based on that hybrid. Its an interesting legal way to basically shelter your money from the "simplified" deduction practice.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 08:08 AM) It needs to have Federal backing. That is the only way to make change. Illinois can change it some, it will help but the federal government needs to do something similar to Illinois at a minimum. I'm the first person to say their should be fewer federal regulations and the states should have more autonomy. But something like this is just reasonable for safety. Automatic weapons and high capacity magazines, while fun to play with, are just too tempting for the wrong people to cause massive damage. For whatever reason more and more people are thinking this type of action is a good idea so unfortunately these changes need to be made. We will never be able to stop all incidences. If someone really wants to do this they will find a way such as bombings instead of automatic weapons. However, it should be made as difficult as possible. Illinois changing a little will help. Everyone always points to Chicago as a reason why gun laws dont work, but literally a mile outside of city limits the laws are totally different. Thats a problem.
-
QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 07:53 AM) Since Trump and some republicans counter that this is a mental health problem and not a gun problem, what can they actually do about mental health? Throw money at the problem? Unlikely. Enact the Obama executive order (that Trump got rid of) under actual legislation? What would they actually propose? Also, what can be done about guns bought in neighboring states that are brought back to Illinois and put in the wrong hands (gangs)? What can be done about that? Indiana just now legalized alcohol sales on sunday. They arent going to change their gun laws anytime soon.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:47 PM) I’m surprised your CC company believed it wasn’t you Im surprised ive had that card for as long as I did and its never had fraudulent charges before. Based on what I was doing I am guessing someone skimmed it at a restaurant.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:47 PM) My understanding from talking to CPA/IRS relatives back around the holidays is that far from being a good "reform," the pass-through loopholes created a whole new exciting industry of tax arbitrage that big accounting firms are really, really eager to dig into for their well-heeled clients. Those people haven’t even begun to completely understand what’s the reforms will do for their clients. My CPA and his practice were pretty adamant that the IRS folks aren’t there yet. What he did mention is that the new tax laws will be much more flexible for corporations than the individual, and recommended I set one up for myself.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 09:15 PM) Obama didn't even go to Billy Graham's viewing, he's not patriotic/un-American!!! The fact that anti Semite grifter had a government sponsored viewing is so wrong.
