QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 08:20 AM) I still disagree that anyone could fire 100 rounds in seconds. It's just not humanly possible. Mechanically, maybe. I would have no issues with banning all of those modifications. As a matter of fact how about making all clips over say 10 rounds illegal. i think they would have a better chance with that than banning the weapons entirely. The kick on an AR is pretty light, it would be easy to empty that many without too much of a spray. Especially if you have been training. I'm personally in favor of tiers of ownership based on qualification and certification. If we arent going to get rid of these weapons, make them harder and harder to get the more dangerous they are. Tier 1 could be a tiny little pea shooter - maybe thats just a background check and cool off period. I think anything with stopping power or that can be concealed should be subject to the same training I had for my permit. And so on. I think we've also just proven that people will do anything for a tax break, including selling their parents down the river. Give a $500 tax credit to anyone who turns in certain models of guns. Make it voluntary.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 16, 2018 -> 07:47 AM) I'm not which legal modification you are referring to but there is no weapon that can effectively fire 900 unless you have an extremely long belt fed ammo system. Far too many clip changes for that to happen. The weapon probably can fire that many rounds but it wouldn't be effective. Your finger would need to be really fast. Thats a fire rate not a capacity comment. AR-15's have 100 round drums and those can be emptied within seconds. Both modifications are entirely legal. A simple paintball style firing technique can empty a 30 round clip in less than a min. Spray and pray.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:47 PM) This is very true for the full auto version. This is not true for semi autos. Each indivdiual trigger pull is not a "spray and pray" type of sequence. I agree people only like it because it looks cool. The fact is its not a useful weapon for hunting due to the small caliber. But it works well for target practice as its light and easy to use. As I said I wouldnt care if they did ban this particular rifle, however my fear is that people would instead obtain a higher caliber rifle and do more damage. The semi auto version can effectively fire 45 rounds a minute bone stock. With a legal modification or two you can get that up to 900 rounds per minute with zero issue.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:31 PM) Using semi-automatic rifles? They do all the time. They also use AR 15 for sport all the time. they aren't much use in hunting though. They are fairly useless as I said because of they're lack of power. Fake, terrible hunters use a rifle that’s main function is to spray and pray. It’s a terrible gun for home defense and for hunting. It’s only function is to engage an enemy with a high rate of fire. It’s also a profit center because of how modular and “cool looking” it is. It serve no useful purpose since there are guns that are more effective at pretty much any useful activity. And I’d say that about most if not all semi automatic rifles.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 06:19 PM) That's fine but you aren't being realistic. You also don't think that hunting or target practice are useful pat times or that people use these weapons for protection of their livelihoods against coyotes and other predators. Actual hunters aren’t using these to hunt for sport or to defend themselves. Just stop it. There is no need for it.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 12:40 PM) The problem is really with all elected officials. All of them suck. Its real simple. Get rid of long gun automatic weapons for everyone but law enforcement and the military. No you cant buy body armor. No you cant buy armor piercing rounds. No you can order nuclear weapons. None of this is for hunting so stop saying that it will stop it. The US military has 5th generation jets, missiles, tanks, special forces, and other things you don't have. So your well regulated militia would last 15 minutes in a skirmish. So stop with the I am protecting my country from tyrants. You watched too much Zero Dark Thirty and played too much COD. You want home defense, then invest in a shotgun. You are not taking the long gun and going room to room to get the boogeyman. You dont need a long gun with 4000 rounds to fend off the bad guy at your house. Require background checks and training for gun owners. Anyone with mental health, criminal behavior not qualified and you are on a list. Then on the other side. Truth in sentencing for all gun related crimes. No early release. You use a gun in a crime it should be a multiplier. I dont want to see anymore, X person is a 5 time felon yet is out doing mayhem. I dont want to hear about how Jimmy is 19 years old and he made a mistake bringing an AK-47 to the bank and had a sad life when he threatened to shoot everyone in the face. So he just needs counseling. If you post Youtube\snapchat\anything internet related with videos or posts threatening to kill the world. Then you get put on a list and you have zero ability to buy anything weapons related. I dont care if it was a joke, or you were in your angst years. Just like a sex offenders list. You are on it for life. No weapons for you. Law Enforcement. Its 2018. Get a f***ing database of this s*** together and get everyone in law enforcement access to it. Feds and locals share info. Military share info. If Jimmy was discharged from the Army because he liked guns too much, and killed the neighbors dog with one and ate it. Please dont keep that a secret. Both sides have blood on their hands. I f***ing heart this post

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 11:08 AM) Supposedly they use them for hunting as well. I am not a hunter, but that's like cheating isn't it? Anyone who uses one of those for hunting isnt really a hunter. Its f***ing terrible for that.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:59 AM) Well, it is used to make men feel like they have a bigger penis as well. Just another option besides a Corvette. Exactly, its for low T. They should just replace those with Frank Thomas's new OTC pill. Or pass a law that all AR-15's have to be pink with "I have a tiny penis" written on it.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) I'm so sick of these f***ers spewing this bulls***. The only fact that's relevant here is the shooter used an AR-15 style assault weapon. The only practical purpose for having such a weapon is to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. No civilian needs one. Let's get rid of these f***ing things. It shouldn't be that hard unless you're on the NRA's payroll. Theres literally no other use for the gun. It was designed to kill as many people as possible.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:13 AM) That's not a bubble though, that's responding to demand. We shouldn't manufacture housing shortages to boost up prices. IMO its an overcorrection.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:32 AM) Trump only mentions mental health, not guns. I'm shocked. He and his cronies will hit all of the talking points, when that fails they will say its too soon to talk about legislation. Rinse, repeat.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:20 AM) Feel bad for his family that they have to consistently put up with this s***. Much like the families of Sandy Hook and the people that own Comet Ping Pong. Its pathetic.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 09:59 AM) I think they should be able to see he has an AR-15 for some reason, and he is posting this crap, and he has been determined to be a problem. So either you are going to take his gun away, or follow him around pretty closely, or wind up offering thoughts and prayers and say now is not the time to discuss gun control. Obviously, it's a needle in a haystack for a lot of these guys, but this guy should have been a bit easier. He wasn't exactly sophisticated. And if you can't see this one coming, it shows AR-15s need to be off the market. They do need to be off the market, but the easiest thing for him to procure in this case was the ammo. Outlaw the ammo and its just a useless piece of metal. We need to keep in mind that there is also no universal database of who buys this stuff. The NRA has effectively shut that down in every single case. There arent "flags" that go up when people buy a huge amount of firearms and ammo.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 10:06 AM) A few years ago, my nephew's class had guests come in and read them something. He chose me, which I took as a huge honor. It's a school in Arlington Heights. When I got there, the doors were locked, I had to sign it, and get escorted to the classroom. No metal detector, but this guy would have just gone past that anyway, but if they had the same protocol, it could have maybe saved someone. I believe they did, including two armed police officers.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 08:55 AM) Video from a student inside the school as police as escorting them out. Don't watch unless you want to see multiple murdered students lying in pools of their own blood. https://twitter.com/TheDJLegacy/status/963916390624350209 Won't matter. Nothing meaningful will be done. If anything, we'll end up with looser gun laws again like after Sandy Hook. Feel bad for the parents and friends of the students who were murdered who will inevitably be harassed and threatened for years by the Alex Jones types about FALSE FLAG! insanity. That narrative has already found its way on the social media sites. Hillary clinton hired this guy to distract from investigation, blah blah blah.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 08:49 AM) I think the Democrats would need to hold a super majority to get anything passed, but they can't take control and use the bulls*** line "we are gonna pass sensible gun laws" or whatever they normally say. People need to start demanding they actually put forward an actual bill to ban the guns that are used in mass shootings. I honestly don't think anything like that will happen in our lifetimes, since conservatives refuse to do anything about banning guns. We need to look at other options. Schools should probably be on total lock down all the time. Metal detectors at every entrance. Classroom doors should have to be locked at all times when class is in session. Bulletproof windows on every door, inside and outside. I think a lot of schools have cops on duty, they will probably have to double or triple that. Probably shouldn't have kids ever in large groups at any time. Kids will have to go to school pretty much in a prison, so that some piece of s*** going through a mid life crisis can sit at home at night and polish his AR-15 while watching Hannity or whatever these people do. There are plenty of dems that would block any major gun reform as well. I'm hoping for baby steps here.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 08:20 PM) The IRS didn't know how the tax code worked prior to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, they still don't know how it works, and they won't know how it works once that horrible law is replaced. My comment wasn’t an attack on the IRS. It’s a fact that they literally have no idea what’s in it. My accountant was outlining a lot of this to me which was pretty hilarious. The loopholes have just begun to be discovered. I believe a lot of people are going to start their own "corporations" to funnel some money through to avoid the standard deduction.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 05:22 PM) Why are we destroying this thread with Seth Rich conspiracy talk? That will be the topic of my podcast later, in which I conclude it is a conspiracy by people to bury bad news about Trump. As soon as someone types Seth Rich their post should be deleted and they should get a cooling off period.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 07:02 AM) And it has been like this for a long time whether a Democrat or Republican is in the office. Two parties hell bent on fighting each other instead of actually representing the people who elected them. They give two s***s about anything but what they are told to think.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 14, 2018 -> 06:33 PM) I really wish the far left didn’t scream “get rid of all guns” every time we have a shooting like this. That’s never going to happen and just gives the pro-gun crowd the ammo they need to make no changes. The focus should be on getting rid of completely unnecessary things like assault weapons & high-capacity clips and putting far stricter restrictions /controls in place for general gun ownership. That won’t stop everything but it would be a huge step in the right direction. Unfortunately our completely broken government will never get that done. You are completely correct, that would be a great step in the right direction, i'd add stop producing the associated ammo. But statistics DO prove that severely reducing the number of guns would correlate with severely reducing the number of mass shootings.
