QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) And no one was informed of prices firing ahead of time or even officially before it hit the news. Best administration, best pale. Good news is that it looks like the interim director is going to be a career NIH person, so they should be competent and hopefully will stop the deliberate sabotage of the ACA No chance, thats Trumps directive

I've already heard how the tax plan is rationalized by his base "what, you dont like everyone saving money"

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) No chance. Go read the story I linked to a page or two ago. This same sort of investigation has happened in college bball before. Schools have been punished for it before. This isn't anything new and i'm kind of shocked why so many of the national writers are pretending like this is some major dooms day event. It's a big deal because the FBI is involved, and they all want to write the popular anti-NCAA story, but I bet in 3 months time nothing will change. The season will start and we'll be done with it. Some of these schools will have fall out, but the vast majority of teams won't. Lots of head coaches will be fired and the AAU and camp system may not exist like it did before. but they will find a way. Everyone needs to remember the schools profit the most from the relationship with these companies. Look at the money they get, and they dont have to put on things like camps anymore. There are top tier coaches that get less than 500k in salary from the school but almost 10 mil from the shoe company. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Reporter: won't people be concerned that this will be a give away to people like Trump? Cohn: nah cause middle class Americans won't care if they couple extra bucks in their pockets. Reporter: can you even guarantee that all middle class Americans get a tax cut? Cohn: lol no. and Don't care about a single thing other than cutting taxes He also said you could renovate your kitchen or buy a new car with $1000.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 09:54 PM) Not directed at Illinois fans, but it's been comical to see so many fan bases claim their head coach had no clue what these tarnished assistant coaches were doing. No doubt in my mind Sean Miller should be fired immediately Yep. He should be gone very soon. He knew how they got the players, there were serious rumblings with Kobi Simmons and apparently they were true. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) Every high level college football and basketball program has players getting paid under the table. Some more than others, but it's part of the game. The players should be getting paid anyway. Basketball at the higher levels is the worst though. The AAU, agents and shoe companies are far more advanced than any $100 handshake. -

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) Luckily Illinois has been so bad the last decade i'm not really worried about recruiting scandals. Their best recruits were probably Meyers Leonard and Jerome Richmond, both guys that were local and huge Illinois fans. edit: and yeah, Illinois has no exposure with Evans. Keep in mind the universities are seen as the "victims" of these crimes for being duped and frauded by the assistant coaches into giving scholarships to ineligible players. I guess worse case Underwood gets implicated for his one year at OSU, but nothing at Illinois. Yeah, I dont think there is risk there but who knows. I'm expecting a few schools to pop up that seem a little strange, but mostly the ones we all suspect like Kentucky etc. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) They haven't even figured that part out yet. It's the same 1 page "plan" they could have put out and probably did put out at the convention last year. They literally have made zero of the hard choices of who exactly will be paying more. Any projection of who is paying more right now is a joke. There's less detail in this than in Bernie Sanders's universal Health Care proposals while a candidate, and they've had nearly a year to turn this into policy. One of two things will happen. They will either give up on any of the pay-fors because those are politically difficult and just remember that Republicans only care about the deficit when Democrats are in charge and just cut the top level individual and corporate tax rates... Or Donald Trump will say something as racist as usual for him and his defenders will come out cheering and we'll forget about this, a-la infrastructure week. Why can't someone pay me to write claptrap like this? 2 hours of work, tops. There is a great tweet thread by a professor at UChicago where he dives into some of these concepts. I dont understand how they can be throwing out a plan like this while saying it will trickle down to the middle class and lower. People arent stupid enough to believe that right>?

QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Suddenly glad I got that extra 2k a year... Based on what i've seen, families that make under 80k/year are going to have a tax increase.

Stephen Miller is going to be raped in a prison some day, bank on it.
-
My god his tax plan, wow. Looks like households under 50k are going to be paying quite a bit more.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 12:58 PM) Perhaps i'm naive, but I tend to think that for the vast majority of schools and players this isn't an issue. It's an issue for the top level kids, because why wouldn't it? They know they've got a good shot at a future career in the pros, all they're looking for is a place to play bball for a season or two, and when you're the queen at the ball being courted by a number of suitors, why wouldn't you ask for what you're worth? I don't think there's anyway to combat this problem though. There's always going to be a need for this black market. Shoe companies and financial advisers and agents all want to be in a position to sign a guy the minute he declares. And you have the other problem that for the NCAA to enact real change, the NBA basically has to play along, but why would they? They have a free minor league system set up for them. The AAU system and the top 50 players involved in it are extremely crooked. I would say thats a minimum amount of kids involved every year. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) But he had no idea. If the .0000000000001 % chance that he had no idea is true, especially with all the other crap going on in his program, he has to be fired for being clueless. They hired Petrino and Pitino. They had to know one was going to go down in flames. Im surprised he survived buying hookers for recruits. -

Later Pitino. Cant blame everything on your assistants this time. I know OSU is putting it out there that Thad never did this, and I sure hope thats true. I remember the question marks around losing a player in the 11th hour to Arizona, and now it makes more sense. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 08:58 AM) I don't know if they're still great on pricing, but Tire Rack's always good for detailed reviews and ratings on tires. Blizzaks are great, but they are expensive and they're winter-only so you've got to get a second set of summer tires. Oh yeah, I always had two sets with my rear wheel drive car.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Sam's Club or Costco is the way to go. Usually have good deals on tires and they throw in free balancing, rotation, flat fix and road side assistance. I second this. They seem to treat you right. A huge percentage of tires come super unbalanced or even with manufacturing errors. Its good to work with a company that would easily balance or replace them without questions. And also get some Blizzaks on that sports car. Other than the near fatal accident I got into with my G37, the tires were money.
