QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) Illinois now has what, 9 scholarship players? Jeez. Is that bad??? -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Things can change as the votes today will be the last ones counted but as of now the expecation is Quist will lose but do better than previous democrats. Once again showing how s***ty a two party system is. I hate it so much. I'm running for local office this fall and I really believe at this point in our lives with technology we can represent the people so much better.

If you vote for that guy, even looking at his policies, you suck.

Well duh. Europe is not going to be happy with us now being aligned with Russia. We are breaking huge trends.

Wow, see that shows, I was not aware of such old children for sitting presidents. That does make things a bit unusual.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 25, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) How many presidents have had kids pushing 40? Both are unelected family members. I don't see the difference. I didn't know tradition was that important to everyone. Every other president was against gay marriage is Trump wrong simply for bucking that tradition. I'm sure its rare as he's only the second divorced president ever and the first on his third marriage.

Personally I'm hoping the repeated debunking of fake news on the major outlets will lead to less of it actually existing. Wishful thinking at least.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 25, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) Correct. We live in the social media age and people need to push content at any cost. That story made headlines for about 3 hours, and then it was onto the next thing. TJ MIller leaving Silicon Valley has taken up WAY more media time.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 25, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) But that's moving the goal posts, and not really what the story was about. CNN reported Spicer, the 2nd most visible person in the White House, was reportedly very upset with the "snub" and there were also reports the move was done because some don't expect Spicer to be back in front of the podium when the White House contingent return home to Washington. Is it the biggest story in the world? No, and I don't think it was covered that way, to be honest. But it shows more possible dissension in a turbulent White House. It wasnt really much of a story at all. It was one or two posts in this thread and maybe a few tweets laughing about it. Other than that, its not really a story.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 25, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) Simply stating differences of input between presidencies doesn't make one worse or better. My point was that there's so much outrage over s*** that was never covered before Trump's presidency. He's a dope and if you give him enough rope he'll hang himself but why is the media creating faux-controversy? Why is there more unnamed sources then ever? Why can't anyone put their name next to the daily Trump pseudo-controversy? How come you guys stopped calling him a rapist? He used to be a rapist? Now he's not? Now you're okay with rape? Where's the disconnect? The media moved onto another story and today's is that Trump's press secretary should make the travel cut over his own family. Really cutting edge stuff. I'm sure the kids will be learning about this in history class in 40 years. I dont see how any of that is true.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 25, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) First Ladies typically have some sort of role in the admin, and that's not what happened when you asked "why does anyone care about Michelle Obama." There was all sorts of hysteria about Obama's travels from the rightwing media, including ludicrous claims that a trip to India was costing $200B a day repeated by members of Congress (it was a complete fabrication). Michelle Obama was hounded for a long time by conservatives for anything and everything but especially her travel (not a peep from them on the millions its costing for Melania to live in a golden tower in NYC). Nobody's making anything up here. Trump's administration is shot through with nepotism just as his businesses were, and he invented a position for his daughter and has dumped a ton of responsibilities on his son-in-law. It's not normal for the President's children to be so involved. To be fair, his children have to be a lot older than typical. Of course thats because unlike any other president, he's on his 3rd marriage.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 25, 2017 -> 02:05 PM) You are all being deliberately obtuse. There was never any coverage of who Obama traveled with. There was never any coverage of whether or not his press team was with him. You'd think with how often Trump puts his foot in his mouth you guyswouldnt have to make stuff up too. When I questioned Michelle Obama's place in the admin and why she should be deciding whether our kids eat tofu I was racist. Now everyone has an issue with nepotism. Yawn, the first lady has always had pretty large responsibility unless they are complete idiots. There also an easily accessible travel schedule of every trip Obama took and with whom. Especially later during his presidency when social media merged with actual media. The current president took time to criticize just about every trip Obama ever took Link There was a running tally of how much each trip Obama took during his term and the republicans paid such attention to it that it was used during the election cycle. Michelle was accused of using tax payer money for personal vacations. Obama was even heavily criticized for taking his dog on Air Force One. There was even a fake news story about them buying a first class ticket for their Dog to go to hawaii. Check just about every speed at CPAC. There was widespread coverage of where he went and with whom and who was paying for it. But yeah, no coverage. Trump is the most unfairly criticized politician in history

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) I'm looking pretty hard right now, I've been struggling with my leadership for a couple years but was hopeful I could transition elsewhere in IT under leaders who could develop me/offer leadership opportunities. It hasn't happened, and I just had a sit down with my supervisor where I asked for more responsibility/title as a team lead under him as someone else in IT got a similar title. It wouldn't require any direct reports and I said I didn't expect any raise for it, it would just be focused on giving me a more clear path on getting into leadership. Their answer was a blunt no (and my reviews/HR standing/9 box crap are all stellar). Pretty much I took it as a message of where my leadership actually views me. I'll PM you, I know of an opening in Arlington Heights

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 25, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) I just had a screener with an IT recruiter for a company near Milwaukee, was actually a pretty good interview. He obviously couldn't go into depth with the technology but had good questions and knew what he was looking for. By far one of the better screeners I've talked to. I should not that he is an in-house recruiter for their IT department, many screeners I've talked to are 3rd party and pretty bad. Oh man, you going somewhere else?

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) It's not common anymore that a franchise can have 4 players that I truly *hate* yet here we are, the 2017 Anahaim Ducks. Taking two from the Canucks doesnt help

I also like the photochopped photo circulating of them holding hands. They even wrongly made his hand orange

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) I didn't know Malia was hired as an advisor to the President. Bringing a 10 year old to those meetings would have been super weird as well.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2017 -> 07:31 PM) Just remember I predicted us attacking N Korea when it occurs. I do appreciate you ignoring the part of my post that contradicted your entire point and focused on this nonsense. Kudos

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 24, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) I wonder if a scenario ever existed where there would be several news outlets writing the same story about President Obama choosing to travel with Malia Obama over Josh Earnest. What was Malia's role within the White House?

My favorite argument is that 20 year olds dont need insurance. Has anyone BEEN to a doctor on a college campus? Its full as f***.

Explosions at Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK
RockRaines replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Ive been thinking a lot about this because I go to a good number of concerts/festivals and its been on my mind for a while. I think what they would need to do is almost block off an area (that way no car bombs etc) and then stagger security at different points so that the bottlenecks arent as bad. The 2 worst I have seen are 1) GnR concert at Soldier Field and 2) Lollapalooza. For the GnR concert, I kept talking about how the security was almost counter productive, because it created a huge mass of people with no where to go and that a bomb would actually kill more people if it went off there. Lollapalooza there is some security before the huge bottleneck, but again a bomb vest would be hard to find because its not really what they are looking for. Another issue is (and this is my personal opinion) is that they need to stop focusing so much on trying to catch illegal drugs and just worry about safety. They arent going to catch a semi-intelligent person sneaking in drugs, it just wont happen. But by slowing down the line, creating the bottleneck they are making it less safe for everyone. Metal detectors and wands are pretty fast, its when they start digging through hats, etc that the line slows to a crawl. I have a fairly big fear of large crowds like those types of events. Especially outdoors ones. -
QUOTE (Tony @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) I've used this video before, this is frustratingly 100% true. Greg's opinion is a nice look into that headline influence vs actual facts. Fear mongering is a very effective way to control the narrative.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) I think once the war begins over the Korea situation, yes, at that point more violence than ever. It figures to be a major war, to go with all the incidents, mass killings. So, you are counting on a hypothetical, not very likely to happen, nuclear war to try and back up your claim that the world is falling apart. If you used actual statistics you would know that Violent Crime, mass killings, homicides etc are all way down around the world. You should ignore the bulls*** headlines you read and pay attention to actual facts. The 40's to the 90's were all MUCH more dangerous globally and domestically than now. By a pretty decent factor actually.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) More now than ever. Are you not concerned and saddened about this? I can't believe I'm being ripped for being sad about this incident. This country is in deep trouble as is the world. The moment N. Korea has capability of tossing a nuke at US soil, you don't think that will happen? And not waiting for that ... you don't think Trump will start something soon vs. Korea?? These are dangerous times. You being sad has nothing to do with it. Are you saying there is more violence in the world right now than there ever has been? I just want to make sure this is clear.
