QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) Why don't you offer group insurance plans for groups of people? Why are Walmart's premiums so much less than a smaller company's? Because their massive workforce makes them so lucrative and the insurance giants work their ass off to get that account. If people joined Individual Health Pools they can work insurance companies to the same effect. Could you imagine the type of leverage an AARP based health pool could exert on insurance companies? You force the the insurance companies to work for the people. You don't force the people to pay the government so they can then significantly increase prices once their plan's namesake leaves office. AARP was vehemently against this bill.... Wal-mart's premiums are lower because Out of pocket expenses are higher than the ACA.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 4, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) These groups are mocked by comedians? Cmon. I never used the word persecuted, we're talking about mocking a religion on TV, twitter, everywhere. Catholics are a safe group to mock. And I never was arguing it's tough to be a Christian, responding to caulfield's post. Thanks for getting me in trouble here again, Caulfield You knew I'd take the bait. LOL, yes, over and over and over. Movies and TV shows have been mocking minority religious groups since they were invented. Its ridiculous to even say that they arent.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) You're doing a lot of stating the obvious. If you have cancer and you don't treat it, it's probably going to affect you. Regardless, you seem to be an advocate of using the service of health insurance. I am too, we can agree on that. It's pretty important to get and you have the option to get it whether the government mandates it to you or you go and get it yourself. It's a low bar for the current administration to beat here so I am hopeful that they can get a better plan in the second try that is not a government mandate with rapidly increasing premiums. Premiums were always rising, and insurance companies are making record profits. Something has to change and its more than just the ACA, which probably could have been implemented much better if the GOP wasnt so dedicated to blocking it. Now we have something that is imperfect and is being replaced by absolute crap, lowering the bar even further.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 4, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) They have videos of a hospital in LA,CA taking uninsured and dropping them off close to other hospitals. But Trump promised better care, cheaper premiums, and everyone insured. Hold him to it. He hasnt been held to a single lie he spouted during his campaign. I doubt anyone will to this one either.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 4, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) I doubt the Senate passes this bill, but if they do, what you said is the exact reason why premiums/deductibles will increase for most people. Thankfully I wont have to worry about the Cadillac tax anymore. I think they will pass it. And a lot of the people who are rejoicing today are going to realize it hurts them. Unfortunately for them, its too late. They will then look at the tax reform coming up and will hope maybe saving money will help, and then they will realize that also doesnt help them.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) I am well aware of that. I was responding to the idea that millions are going to drop dead and hospitals are going to turn them away as they have their last breaths because the government isn't providing an optional service to everyone. This is a spectrum issue. My mom was as ICU/ER nurse for twenty years on the South Side of Chicago. If someone is dying or overdosing the nurses deal with the individual. They don't let them die because they don't have insurance or they're homeless or they're a criminal or anything. They do their job and let the hospital deals with the rest later. You realize that doctors dont just exist in emergency rooms right? Not being able to see anyone to make your life better in between disasters leads to a higher mortality rate and a shorter and less comfortable lifespan. Not to mention the possible loss of things like financial stability, housing, employment etc. If you cant pay for something like a CPAP system, you arent going to live as long. They arent going to save you for free at a hospital if you are already dead.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) The country is 70% Christian according to PEW. Muslims are less than 1%. Should we have the same amount of mosques and Muslim radio stations for the sake of "fairness"? It's proportionate to the demographics to the country. My point was that groups aren't being discriminated against systematically. You did nothing to provide a basis against that. so you are saying that Christians arent being discriminated against?

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) It seems you're looking at this from the lens of a 1%-er. You have to put yourself in others' shoes sometimes. Not everyone can laugh about outstanding hospital debts. Not everyone can get debts written off of their account and their record by writing a letter. Some have to pay, or find a way to pay, or have their credit destroyed and never be able to get basic services because they have nothing to show for it.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) Haha cause youre a sucker and not poor enough. Insurance is worthless for the really poor. If youre wealthy, you likely have good insurance. The people who are going to get decimated are the lower middle class. Northwestern Hospital chased me down for 25 bucks I shorted them a few years ago. They were relentless. I guess I should have written a letter.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) How are people dying from this? My best friend was born to a drug addict and had a hole in his heart at birth. He had to get open heart surgery upon birth. He was adopted by parents who were in their 50's when he was a baby. His father, an immigrant painter, fell off a ladder and hit disability very early and is pushing 80 and his mom cares for herself and him with a less than ideal salary. So my friend has been taking care of himself since he was 18 and has been on Obamacare for a while. Every once in a while, he'll have his heart rate sky rocket or crash or I'll look at him and his face will have turned white (he's black). He goes to the hospital what seems like every few months. He'll rack up a bill for 5-15 thousand for a one-two day stay that he can in no way afford. His mom will write a letter to the hospital explaining his situation and they'll write off the account and his debt within a week of receiving the letter. In business we call that "bad debt expense." Hospitals aren't turning dying people away because the current administration doesn't believe healthcare is a born right. Meanwhile, my friend has to go to a specialist to figure out what he can do about his heart condition but none of the specialists are covered by Obamacare. So the cycle repeats... So you're telling me that millions of people who wont have coverage can just write a letter to the hospital and they will forgive all debts? s*** why do we even HAVE insurance?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) If they dont go to the emergency room that is on them, but (I could be wrong), the emergency room will give them treatment in an emergency. It just costs much more than treating it early on. This was the whole point of Obamacare, that you tried to make an incentive to go to the doctor so that it was cheaper for everyone. It will bankrupt them for sure.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) What is your basis of the bolded? I went to public high school and private college and both schools had designated areas for Muslims to pray. Other religions didn't have that. That's all fine and dandy with me because Islam is more ritualistic in their daily practicing but let's not act like one group is getting more than another unless there's evidence of it. Did you have a chapel on campus? Did you have religious radio stations and religious groups? I also used the two major communication networks in DTV and Sirius as evidence. So plenty of basis.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) Voting right now on the bill to exempt themselves from all of the awful changes they're implementing, then they vote on the amendment to give a pittance to high-risk pools that will collapse instantly and leave everyone with a pre-existing condition SOL, then the vote for the AHCA. I love how they even think the bill is so s***ty they dont want to be part of it. Thats amazing.

I mean, what a bunch of f*** faces. I cant even believe people would be behind such a s***ty bill.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 4, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) They've lined up buses to head to the White House in celebration after they vote to destroy the American health insurance system so that they can pass big tax cuts for the wealthy. They're celebrating condemning millions of Americans to pain, suffering, financial destitution and potentially death if they merely get sick. These people are monsters. Literally celebrating making life easier for rich people while killing millions. Good people we've elected.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) If they are under two, they can sit in your lap if you don't want to buy them a ticket. When we flew with 18 month old last month, I paid for his own seat (with miles), and brought on a car seat. That kid is too large and fidgety to sit in on our laps for 3+ hours. When they are over two, they can sit in a car seat, but they don't have to. Once my daughter had her own ticket at 2 years old, we never brought the car seat anymore. Clearly the laws are selectively enforced or just not understood. We bring the harness now because if we didnt have it before, United was going to kick us off. It also keep my boy in his seat.... We flew with my 1 year old to SD on our laps, boy did that suck.

Super excited to be having another baby this year, especially with a C-section

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) I get what you are saying, but this doesnt even seem to be something that was discussed. And that attendant threatening to have their kids taken away from them, totally messed up if he/she really did that I believe its also under 2 years old and they are in your lap, whereas older than that they can sit in a car seat or an FAA approved restraint device (we use a belt system that goes over the seat). Of course lap children dont actually get tickets, while 2 and up get actual tickets. united actually gave us s*** for our system and tried to get us off of the plane until finally the supervisor read the FAA approval document that comes with the device. We were also sitting in first class and they still did it. I've liked Delta for their regional service, but obviously people are the weakness here and these employees were being dicks.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 4, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) My right knee is pretty much cartilage-free. I get clicks, knee locking up, can't walk for longer than 4 or 5 minutes, excercise is painful and I do stairs like a kid, either one at a time or leaning heavily on the arm rail. Get it looked at and do what they say. Had been getting drained and cortisone shots, but those went from working about 3 months to about 3 weeks. Got some sort of gel shot this last time and am on a little over 2 months now. Feels tons better, can actually do stairs (slowly) but still can't walk much. Got a replacement in your future huh? I have zero cartilage under my left kneecap and it locks so I have to wear a strap. Its fine for now but the doc says the wear and tear will ruin it eventually.

Why should white men have to pay for women's health?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 4, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Well we cant really do anything because Im pretty sure that most people who post here will have Congressman/Senators who vote against the bill. I worry for guys like Greg because Kansas very well could opt out and he could be stuck with much worse coverage at a much higher rate. Hopefully he's calling his congressman/senators and asking them why they want to help Healthcare Companies make even more money. Kansas is definitely going to opt out. They are going to be left in the lurch.
