  1. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) Granderson is really threatening the 20-20-20-20 2 triples a couple nights ago brings him to 21. An inside the park homer today brings him to 17. A stolen base today brings him to 16. And he had the doubles long ago. Another steal Monday night = 17. Fun to watch.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) Thanks for the update. No FSC, GolTV, or Setanta up here. Very poor research, very poor.
  3. Happy happy, man! Have fun and let it go for the night. Just don't get behind the wheel of any Lamborghinis!
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 10:42 AM) Well...if the Dems in the Senate cave on approval of Chertoff...we may as well find a 3rd party to support. Two words. Recess Appointment.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) A few interesting games this weekend. Arsenal - Man City has 0-0 written all over it. Man Utd play Tottenham, and if Spurs lose, Martin Jol could be sacked. Always find a way to shoot themselves in the foot Tottenham. Liverpool has to go to Sunderland in the early game. They should win, but Spurs should have won there on opening day. West Ham at home to Wigan, another game we "should" win, but Wigan's actually been in decent form. Ain't it the truth.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) Just 6 more hours...till I have 10 days off (Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon).......oh man I can't wait. I have 8 more days til I have about a week off (pretty much). It is impossible for time to move fast enough for me right now.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) If you really wanna go back...the French invasion of Egypt under Napoleon back in 1798 was what really got the whole process of the West trying to conquer and control that area started. I'll see your Napoleonic adventure, and raise you Le Chanson de Roland. So there!
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 23, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Hey jackass, read the rest of the thread. Seriously, there's plenty of blame to go around... all the way back to 1978/1979 or so, maybe even further back if you want to look past Jimmy Carter. Actually, if you want to go waaaay back, you can certainly point out that not intervening in the Suez Crisis in 1956 planted the seeds in the Arab mindset that the US wouldn't be willing to stand up for its friends, allies and interests. You can certainly make a case that if we had joined with the Brits and smacked Nasser hard, we would have looked stronger in thew eyes of a lot of people in the Middle East. But life is complicated, especially when dealing with that part of the world.
  9. Have fun AD -- even if that's less possible now. Signed, Another fortysomething
  10. I've said it before, and it will be true again -- nearly every time an athlete turns down a contract for being "insulting" he makes less money than he would have if he accepted the deal.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) Assuming this is a suicide, I just feel so torn. Suicide is such a selfish act that hurts the people around you and close to you, but if you go out on your own (ie not hurting anybody else) and show a history of demons like this man did, it just....it makes me feel so horrible. Sometimes the difference between a person who ends this way and somebody who turns their life around and becomes a success can be as simple as 1 or 2 good people who really care about them, and that often times can be just luck to find those said people. RIP. Well, not hurting anyone else except the engineer of the train that he blew into. That guy's probably not feeling very good these days.
  12. Have a good one -- the beer will still be cold when you return!
  13. BUMP! Now Donaghy is going to sing like a canary. Good times.
  14. She should be sentenced to live in Fallujah or Baghdad.
  15. I'm still trying to figure out how someone can sue the Magna Carta.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 02:49 PM) By favorable do you mean one that doesn't care for this silly s*** clogging up his courtroom and will likely make it worse on him than if he just pleaded guilty? That's how they are in Will. If you ever have to go for something there, and it can somehow be resolved before you're infront of the judge, resolve it. That's good advice anywhere, actually.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) I wonder if they have to put those health department grades on the stadium entrances there. (Restaurants around here always seem to have a giant "A" or "B" displayed in the window. I think having a "D" on the Angels stadium might look nice) I was discussing that with a friend who has worked in a bunch of SoCal restaurants. If you get a grade you don't want to put in your window, you just have the inspector return, at the restaurant's expense. If you know when an inspector is coming, you have to be total morons not to pass with an "A". Either that or you have a lot of structural deficiencies that allow vermin easy access.
  18. When Early Wynn won his 300th in 1963, he was asked if he was upset that Warren Spahn had beaten him to the milestone. Wynn replied, in essence, that he wasn't, because he would forever be known as the last pitcher to win 300. He used to bring it up fairly often, actually. Well, it took 19 years, but Gaylord Perry won his 300th in 1982. So I wouldn't be really quick to say anything definitive on the subject. Lincecum or Hamels are two guys who could do it, if everything breaks right.
  19. I loved it when his shoes popped off. People in and around the bar were horrified!
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) I say a lot of hyperbolic things on purpose around here, because most of what's spouted by my so-called counter opinions are pretty hyperbolic as well, only most of those folks don't see it that way. In this case, it makes me SICK when people politicize something like this. What the hell is wrong with you people (you people being the politicians)? It's a problem, it was before 6:00 last night, and now it's a bigger problem. Stop blaming people, fix it, and let's move on. Don't get me wrong; I think that this should be political fodder, if political fodder means getting these things fixed. I do wish both sides could wait until the recovery efforts are complete, though. The main problem here is that it's much sexier for politicos to spend money on new infrastructure instead shoring up what we already have. As I said, with any luck, this will cause people to realize we need to fix a lot of these things.
  21. If this leads to prioritizing money for infrastructure, than at least something good will come out of the tragedy. Like kap, though, I have my doubts that priorities will change. Already here in Minne, Dems are taking shots at Reps and vice versa. It's disgusting, frankly.
  22. Just horrible. Less than a mile form the Metrodome -- probably some Twins fans involved. Everyone who lives here knows people who take that bridge every day. Long night ahead, I'm afraid.
  23. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) Southsider...I agree with you. What would the city's skyline be if people b****ed about Mies Van Der Rohe, Louis Sullivan, Skidmore, etc. Things like the Spire, Aqua, etc. make Chicago what it is. Except for that one building on Wacker just north of Randolph...that thing is a monstrosity!!! There's this one building on the north side, I think it's at about Addison and Clark -- really ugly -- smells, too!
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) Which begs the question... if the US had someone in custody whose silence could lead to the deaths of thousands of people, who would be in favor of torture, and who would be in favor of that person still having rights? Would it make a difference if it was a US citizen or not? Only if Jack Bauer's in charge. Other than the fact that torture doesn't exactly work a majority of the time, that's a great plan. Of course, I guess it depends on how torture is defined.
  25. Stevens and Byrd? I would love that.
