  1. Two points:

    I'm sure there are lots of loony bastigages on this side of the pond who would agree with this idiot.

    I personally blame Bush for the sluggish start of the Sox. If he would only come to an accord with Hugo Chavez, that would take pressure off Ozzie's shoulders, and things would be mush better.

  2. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 07:10 AM)
    I would love to see someone like Guillen, whom Pedro has plunked several times, turn to the catcher in his first at bat and say something like "You go tell Pedro right now that if I get hit at all, I turn around and hit you up side your knees with this bat.  No charging the mound, i take it out on you, before the rest of the team can come out and get between us."  You think the catcher would be calling all outside stuff for him to throw the rest of the game?  Hitting batters is almost a part of the game.  When batters wear armor and hang their elbows over the plate, I would be aiming for that every time.  but some pitchers get so arrogant, like Pedro, that is is over the top.  I would almost give even money that Padro gets plunked himself in the next game with the nats, fines and suspensions be damned.

    A good story...

    Sawks-Yanks, way back in the day. Yanks knock down a couple of guys and up strolls Jimmy Piersall. Piersall tells Yogi, "You bastards knock me down, I hit you in the head with this bat. And I'm the guy who can plead temoprary insanity and get away with it."

    Yogi thinks about it for a while and replies, "You know, Jim, I don't think we've hit a .220 hitter all year."

    An old favorite (or, considering the source, favourite):

    Cockaleekie

    n. 1. A favorite soup in Scotland, made from a capon highly seasoned, and boiled with leeks and prunes; - called also cocky-leeky.

    Great story.

    lol I could see the kid saying "Come on, you gave up a kidney for me, how hard is it to give me an A."

    Conversely, she could say, "If you don't behave and get your work in on time, I'll need my kidney back, please."

    God forbid he give an objective answer.

    :rolly

    This doesn't surprise me though as asking Jimmy Carter, one of the most ridiculed Presidents in history and doormat for the Conservative revolution, to be objective is like asking Pat Robertson to come out in favor of kiddie porn.

    Yeah, there are a lot of objective politicians out there.

  5. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 09:31 PM)
    The odd smiley, the fact that it was a response -- I took it as sarcasm.  And I very, very often disagree w/ 101.  Fwiw.

    I'll cop to misinterpretation. I can see that being sarcastic, too.

    EDIT: I guess this proves a point about electronic communications, too. Was it a joke or not?

  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 02:15 PM)
    I guess we will find out won't we?  But of course if she did go back in there totally on her own will, it's her fault if she was raped.  :huh:

    I enjoy many of your posts, but that is an incredibly ignorant statement.

  7. Some commenter on Deadspin (which is doing a really good job of staying on top of this story) said that the kid should be excused for his e-mail because he was "drunk and stupid" when he wrote it.

    Okay, first of all, being drunk does not give you a free pass in life. If you're drunk, you are still guilty of any crimes you commit or any dumb things you do. Please note that I am not saying that the student-athlete who wrote this e-mail is guilty of any crime, just that drunkeness is not a valid alibi for anything.

    Second, if this guy is stupid, stupid enough to compose this e-mail hours after the rape allegedly happened, how the hell did he get into Duke? There's probably people at different universities wondering that same thing. "How did I get rejected and this tool get accepted?"

    The e-mail might be a joke, it might prove that the player who wrote it was or wasn't involved in any sordid actions, but it almost certainly is proof that something untoward happened that night. The broad light of the press needs to keep focused on this case and, if there was indeed a rape, bring those responsible to justice.

  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2006 -> 12:54 PM)
    According to one of her statements, lots of representatives fail to weat that lapel pin.  TIFWIW, since it's again coming from her.

    Probably correct. Also, she'll probably use the "the cop should have known who I was" argument. Still no excuse for punching the cop.

    Prediction: nothing will come of this, since the cop will be "convinced" to drop the charges.

  9. On a somewhat different tangent, is writing someone a ticket for a lewd bumpersticker productive use of a cop's time? In the last two weeks, there's been a murder two blocks from my house and a friend of mine was robbed/mugged two blocks from where I work, both of which are unusual for my neighborhood, granted. If I heard of a police officer pulling over someone for a bumpersticker, I'd be livid.

    I assume that there are actual crimes being committed in DeKalb County GA. Maybe not.
