  1. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) I think so too. There's a big ethanol plant going in right where my parents live in Indiana. Well, far enough away that they shouldn't have any issues ... but 4 miles away I think it is. It's supposed to be a pretty big $$ maker down the road for the city/county. The problem with ethanol plants as they are now construed is, as I understand it, that the energy input (electricity or natural gas, IIRC) exceeds the energy output of the ethanol, so in some sene, we're really not solving anything. I could be wrong. If so, please enlighten me.
  2. I see where you're coming from, but are we to believe that every oil-producing nation is at full capacity? The three I originally mentioned, Indonesia, U.A.E., Angola, Mexico, Russia, Norway? All maxed out? I dunno. If that is the case, get out the Astroglide, it's gonna be a long ride.
  3. Just for the hell of it, I thought I'd post the 24th Amendment. Pretty clear language, I think.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) Or they could simply close down oil production and watch the US spiral, which might be even more effective than any terrorist attack they could pull off. But how long could they afford that? If Iran shut down all oil production, it wouldn't take long for the Saudis, the Kuwatis and the Nigerians, et. al., to ramp things up, assuring themselves of a little extra profit in the meantime.
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) Where do you think someone that young gets those ideas. It sure as hell aint from Power Rangers or whatever grade school kids watch these days. I just saw a great deal of hatred manifested. The kid could have been abused a lot, making him lash out at whatever authority figure was handy. I don't know and neither do you, was all I was saying.
  6. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) His parents are obviously radical leftist, G8 Summit protestor types. Shame on them for filling their kids head up with such drivel. Huh? I didn't see anything about his parents in this piece.
  7. If we pass a law requiring everyone to show ID when they vote, in the name of prohibiting fraud, then we also need to pass a law that requires the manufacturers of any computer used in an election to have open-source software, accessible by all interested parties. Fraud, after all, cuts both ways.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) Wait, so supposed sexual relations between two men happened within Union Station? Last time I ride the Metra there. I assume the blogger is talking about Union Station in D. C.
  9. "A Bullfight is a tragedy" -- Ernest Hemingway
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) No, go for it. Why? Because we have bad words? OK. Obviously, it's because all of the raging liberals at school don't want their students to see well-reasoned arguments from the right. Or should that really be in green?
  11. Grand Marnier had a fantastic ad slogan a few years ago: "Grand Mariner -- it changes everything." Boy, does it. A funny thing happened on the way to this post. I got a call from a friend who's hosting a Super Bowl party, asking me to bring some Grand Mariner. Weird, huh?
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) Okay ... now here's my question. Why would a school block Soxtalk? I could reply, but am afraid of "Filibusterizing" an innocent post.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) What do you call that? A screwhound or a greydriver? I call it a bus driver, but that's just me. Of the poll choices, I'd have to go with Jager or Other. As I said in the other recent booze-related thread, I love C2H5OH in all its wondrous forms. Out of curiosity, Tex, how do you drink your Pimm's? With lemonade or a classic Pimm's cup? And are you the only one in your little slice of heaven who drinks it?
  14. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) I used to think there was no hangover like a wine hangover. Until I got a grappa hangover. Holy... I don't think I could get that stuff down again. Grappa hangovers can be monstrous. As to the original topic, I can't think of anything. I enjoy C2H5OH in all its wondrous forms.
  15. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) New Mexico seems to be an annual trade off. Is there an echo in here?
  16. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Correct, the Dems get Illinois and New Jersey, the GOP gets Ohio and Florida. And sometimes New Mexico. Don't the Dems and Repubs tradeoff New Mexico every so often?
  17. Great thread. I remember reading a bit about Mad Magazine guru William Gaines and hotdogs. Seems that a number of folks in the office were worried because Gaines' everyday lunch date was a trip to the cart outside. They were trying to get him to eat some version of NotDog, so they arranged a taste test with six or seven meat dogs and two meatless ones; this was going to convince him that all dogs had basically the same flavor. He tried all of the dogs, and someone said, "See, they're all the same." Gaines replied, "No they're not!" and proceeded to idnetify every single brand of dog, including the two meatless ones.
  18. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Very simple. Killing the innocent is wrong. Killing the guilty is justice. Or vengance, depending on your point of view.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) Bunch of damn hypocrits. You're all for "equality under the law" yet you disparage a group of people based on where they live and for whom they vote. No wonder the Democratic Party gets it's ass kicked over and over and over and over again. The two of us don't see eye to eye that often, but I have to concur.
  20. I don't think I can ever cheer against Frank. But I sure won't cheer for him when he faces the Sox.
  21. When Isaiah played for the Wolves, a co-worker used to hang with him. He always said that "J" was the kindest, nicest guy in the world, considerate to a fault and a real smart guy. Of course, he'd then say that J had the best weed and drank Tanqueray out of the neck of the bottle like iced tea, so who knows? He obviously is one of those guys who couldn't leave his friends behind when he hit the big time, and your friends can drag you down sometimes.
  22. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) Carl Hiaasen and Tim Dorsey. Are people from Florida realy this mad? People from everywhere are that mad, but, yes, people from Florida are that mad. Carl Hiassen is a funny, funny man.
