  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 07:05 AM) Not much freetime anymore, but I did just finish "Freakanomics" and it was one of the best books I have ever read. Simply incredible. I really need to read this book. EDIT: Oh, and 1776. Am going to start Nothing but Victory, about the Army of the Tennessee. Also, I probably will read From Dawn to Decadence by Jacques Barzun for at least another year. Barzun has read everything ever written, I think.
  2. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) I sorta like this trade for the Wolves. They get a decent big and some young talent back. I don't see what this really does for Boston. Does Kandi have an expiring contract? Bingo.
  3. Linkage. Apparently, McHale really likes Blount. I dunno.
  4. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 25, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) I can't wait to rush the floor today when we beat Minnesota. That's damn funny! Who knows what Gopher will show up? The one that will lose by three or the one that will lose by thirty? They quit on Saturday Night -- everyone except Stamper. If Stamper were 4-5 inches taller, he's all Big Ten.
  5. I must admit, it is very convenient to be able to define the very group you are bashing. If I were to define "mainstream media", I would certainly include CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post (among other "liberal" sources) in the list. I would also include Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Times and Rush Limbaugh (among other "conservative" sources). I think you have to include Rush because of his vast listener base. Perhaps I'm wrong there. Wouldn't be the first time. Or is "mainstream" just some kind of code for "liberal"?
  6. There's no hijacking a thread about pie, people. Pecan. Key Lime.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Well, Tex is creating the questions. That might be unfair. It would be kinda fun though. I could create questions for you and Tex. Maybe as a filler after the first rounds?
  8. Do you think W will ask his Mom and Dad to the ceremony?
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) Illini with a decent win on the road over Northwestern. The game wasn't nearly as close as the score would indicate. Next up: Minnesota, gotta beat them at home If the Illini can't beat Minnesota, they should blow up Assembly Hall. The Gophers are terrible.
  10. Happy, happy, you rock head!
  11. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) If I heard the news right, it wasn't that the earnings were 'bad', just that 'Wall Street Analysts' expected more. So, because they were bad guessers, they panic and sell? I also love it when the news says 'profits drop 40%', without making it clear that they STILL MADE PROFITS. Buy on the rumor, sell on the news.
  12. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) Maybe I just dont browse The Filibuster enough, but Juggs has been pretty absent for the past month or so from SL&P True, haven't seen him around in a while.
  13. I heard a quote from him today -- "I'm not a smooth singer, a crooner. I'm a cornbread singer. My songs come from the stomach, not from the throat." Great voice.
  14. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Are you closing out the bar on Friday night?? No, thank goodness. I wouldn't (or couldn't) have done this if I were. I'll be done by about 9, in bed by 11. 6-7 hours of sleep is more than I usually get anyway.
  15. Wish me luck! I'm walking for a diabetes cure at the ungodly hour of 8AM this Saturday.
  16. Just what makes Chirac think that NUKE will do his dirty work for him?
  17. WARNING: OBSCURE FILM REFERENCE FOLLOWS. I wonder if they got the idea here...
  18. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) If Walmart would just close up shop in Maryland altogether and leave the state, I think that would stop this witchhunt. Lets see MD deal with all the unemployment they will have to cover once the thousands of people are unemployed. PLus healthcare. And Maryland is such a small state that most people could get to a store in a neighboring state if they really needed to. By my count, there are at least 23 Wal-Marts in the state of Maryland (and I forgot to search for Sam's Clubs), so I doubt that they're leave the state. Maryland may be a small state, but it isn't that small. For someone who lives in, say, Glen Ellyn (chosen at random, BTW), you can probably get to Indiana or Wisconsin just as quickly than someone who lives in Towson MD can get to another state. I sure wouldn't make the drive. I'd just go to Target or Costco. The danger to Wal-Mart is if a great deal of states start jumping on the bandwagon, which they probably will. I doubt many votes are lost on taking on Wal-Mart. Don't know for sure, just a hunch.
  19. Um, Balta, that's from the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. I think you maybe wanted to quote the Preamble to the Constitution, not that I wish to put words in your mouth.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) I don't think I've had this next thought run through my head before, but .... Al Gore is right. It's kinda like when I find myself agreeing with Bob Barr. Weird.
  21. NFL made it official (like anyone who was watching didn't already know).
  22. I'm a traditionalist, I guess. I voted for the Duke.
  23. 'Fess up, all you forty-somethings. You all had Frampton Comes Alive, admit it. My first album purchase was the soundtrack to Tommy. Why, you ask, when you could have had the actual album by The Who? I was a stupid 10 year old, that's why. I like to think my taste in music has gotten better, but it's probably only gotten different.
  24.
