    QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) I thought about going to Rutgers for Grad school, but then I found out that it was in Jersey. EDIT: UMN is a really nice campus--I think you'll like it a lot. When you go if you have any questions about fun things to do in the area let me know, I can tell you some neat stuff up in the cities. What she said, SF1. Cultural stuff, places to eat, etc.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) Shonen Knife? I'll see your Shonen Knife and raise you Pizzicato Five!
  4. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) Saluki is safe. Whew. Not from PETA.
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) Basketball has become an very physical game. If a guy can't bang in the paint, he's probably not gonna do well in the NBA. There are exceptions of course, but look at NBA guys from the mid 80's and compare them to today's ballplayers. Plus they have a taller frame to fill out, all while doing a lot of running and cardio. Some guys fill out in one off season. Bingo! Watch some classic NBA games from the '80's and compare the guys to players today. The players then were much leaner -- more greyhound-like. A guy like James Edwards of the Pistons was a "big guy" back then looks positively skinny when compared with most of the centers today.
  6. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) Thats another thing thats doubtful. 4 of UNC's top recruits were kicked out of the program for using pot. That was 4 4 star recruits that helped make up a top 20 class in the nation. They have very strict testing and don't show any favor to "star" players. UNC lost Adarius Bowman who was a top 10 receiver in his class, Puff Thomas who was a top 15 DT in the same class, Terry Hunter who was a top 25 DE, and Fred Sparkman who was a top 25 LB in the same class. I love the fact that we're talking about pot and the names "Puff" and "Sparkman" come up. Just sayin'.
  7. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) Morgan was definitely impressive in his prime, but was not exactly great before/after. He didn't really hit his prime until 29, and kept playing into his early 40's despite the fact that his last several years were pretty bad. I find it hard to believe that He improved that much between 71 and 72, so I'm more inclined to believe that playing with the likes of Rose and Bench really helped him out. His three years before joining the Reds he hit .236, .268, .256. His first three years on the Reds he hit .292, .290, and .293. He always walked a lot and had decent speed, but without those 6 years with the Reds his numbers look pedestrian, somewhat like Luis Aparicio's with more walks, and he got in based on his superior defense and speed. BTW, Hornsby was the man. A qestion about your list: no Rod Carew? He's got quite a few batting titles. Morgan played the first nine years of his career (well, he played a total of 18 games in '63 and '64, so maybe I should say first seven years) in the worst two hitter's parks in the majors. The Astrodome, from the time it opened until about 1969, was the worst park for hitters in the history of baseball. This was also a time when conditions greatly favored the pitchers. Riverfront wasn't a great park for hitters, either -- it was probably about average. If he had played in a hitter's paradise, such as Atlanta-Fulton County or Jarry Park, his numbers would have looked a lot better. The guy had back-to back MVP seasons in '75 and '76. I think he helped the Reds more than they helped him.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Oh lord, I hope not. I'm not a fan of his at all. No worries. I honestly couldn't see the Hammer carrying any purple state, unless the voting machines were provided by Diebold. And then it would be very close.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) you are such a geek Truth be told: Living in Chicago during yet another Presidential visit = pissed, highways tied up. Living in McAllen during President Clinton visit = drive by airport to see Air Force 1 Kap, which Texan are we going to make President in '08? I'm thinking the Hammer. Is there some green missing in that post?
  10. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) I personally find it sickening that it's OK for a movie to blow the s*** out of a million buildings and shoot thousands of people, but say a few "naughty words" and suddenly all the "What About The Children???" people get all outraged. Concur 100%. It's like the GTA: San Andreas flap. You can condone a game that has you killing cops, carjacking, beating up prostitutes -- but cartoon sex? "What about the children?"
  11. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) hahaha I havent seen the play yet. I listen to the games on radio (work related reasons) I dont know if I want to see it You don't. It was ugly. Lew is going to have to come up big for you guys, and he's been sucking.
  12. Best line in the article, hands down.
  13. What's lost in all this is that the NYPD is never going to catch a suicide bomber by searching bags. If you are a suicide bomber and you are going to blow yourself up anyway, is a search going to stop you from doing it? No! You are going to detonate a little earlier, that's all. The NYPD is, in general, doing a fantastic job deterring terrorists but this measure is both an immense intrusion on personal liberty and, ultimately, pointless.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Lying is bad LOL
  15. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) I don't give a rat's ass if you believe it or not. I watch every game and I see us get 4 hits or less a lot. Our offense sucks and our pitching is great. I stated something that I believe from watching them play, not something for which I scrupulously looked up stats. I didn't say, "here, this is fact. Accept it!" It's a conclusion I came to on my own. No sense getting angry. I was only trying to point out that your observations might be a little off -- no big deal. I can agree to disagree.
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) The pitching's great. I don't see how that's hard to figure out at all. Can't argue with that logic.
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) What? Don't understand the wording? No, the wording's fine. I'm just wondering how a team can be both 30 games over .500 and getting less than 4 hits a game than any other team in the Majors.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) A few weeks ago, I said we must get 4 hits or less in more games than any other team in baseball. I still think it's true. ???

  21. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) hmmm a 3 game win streak 4 more with Detroit Clearly, the Sox softened up the Tigers for the Twins.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/sports/article....720182009990002 That's a neat story -- here's hoping he makes the cut!
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) There's actually a reason for this. According to Orrin Hatch's own biography, when Clinton was trying to pick his first nominee, he had other people in mind other than Ginsburg. Clinton then went to Hatch and asked him how he felt about the person Clinton was considering. Hatch responded that the name Clinton had would provoke a major fight, and countered by asking if Clinton had looked at either Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Stephen Breyer. Breyer became Clinton's second nominee. That's the story from Hatch's own autobiography. The true meaning of "Advice and Consent", methinks.
