  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 06:36 AM) Be careful. Did you ever see that commercial? Wife: Honey, does this dress make me look fat? Hubby (reading newspaper): You betcha. Why do women insist on asking that question? I mean, you can't really give a correct answer. If you say yes, be prepared to duck. If you say no, you usually get, "You're just saying that."
  3. That could be Darwin Award-worthy!
  4. I'm around them all the time...they probably won't have much to contribute to the conversation.
  5. QUOTE(Gldfinger5 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) I was listening to Lawrence Holmes last night and he was discussing the differences between the Cubs and White Sox in terms of media attention, fan base, and just overall popularity. One of the main discussions is why the Cubs are more popular and if the city of Chicago was ever a White Sox town. Now I'm only 25 so I can't go back to far, but I thought in the early 90's when the jerseys changed and we were one of the best teams in baseball that it was more of a Sox town than Cubs town. Do you guys agree or do you know of a time when you could be talking baseball with someone from outside Chicago and they'd just assume you were a Sox fan rather than a Cubs fan?? I'm 41 years old, I've lived out of town since I finished college, and I can tell you that, in my experience that that time was never. If I'm at a Vikes-Bears game in a Bears jersey, people will say, trying to be nice, "How 'bout those Cubbies!" When I snarl back at them, they don't understand. It might have been different before WGN brought 140+ Cubs games a year throughout the nation on cable. I don't know. But even back then, the Cubs had a stronger radio presence in the Midwest, thanks to the strong WGN signal. Suffice it to say, that to most casual baseball fans, and many who consider themselves knowledgeable, Chicago=Cubs. Sad but true, but who wants to consort with those bandwagon jumping know-nothings anyway?
  6. QUOTE(winodj @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Question: Name the famous American lobbying for an end to Iraqi sanctions in 1999. I'm going to have to guess... Richard Cheney?
  7. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) Having watched Singo get credit for two saves by only getting one out in each game, I was thinking it would be fair to divide saves into thirds, based on the last inning pitched. Under this system Marte would have earned 2/3's of a save and Shingo 1/3rd. Am I crazy or is there any merit to this idea? I wish to un-hijack (or re-hijack) this thread. I can almost agree that the idea of Shingo getting a save for throwing one pitch in a three-run victory is stupid. But how about the rules for wins? Let's say that on a pleasant May evening at the Cell, El Duque goes eight shutout innings against Brad Radke, who gives up a two-run shot in the bottom of the first and a solo shot in the sixth. Shingo comes in and is ineffective, giving up three in the top of the ninth. Frank, in his third game back, hits Rincon's first offering into the left field bleachers. Shingo gets the win. Shingo deserves the save in Tannerfan's examples a hell of a lot more than he deserves the win in mine, yet fans will complain about his scenario a lot more than mine. Why is this true? Because the concept of wins has been around 75 years longer than the concept of saves? Discuss.
  8. I'm a bartender, so I've already seen that ad plenty of times, each time with someone laughing and asking, "Is that yours?" The Twins also have an ad which they are running on bus stops near colleges and universities in the area with a college-aged kid wearing a Sox cap and jersey, hanging from a coat hook with a wedgie. It's for their student nights, and it explains that they will even sell to Sox fans. It's worth a chuckle or two, I guess.
  9. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) Unless the Twins skip Mays this weekend, it'll be Buehrle vs. Radke. They're skipping Mays, so we're going to have Buerhle vs. Santana on Sunday Night. I'm hoping to get some really good seats right behind the Sox dugout for Saturday or Sunday -- a couple of people I know have them, but they are probably going to both games.
  10. Yeah, baby! And Buehrle wins a game for my fantsay squad!
  11. Since I'm in Minneapolis, I'm going to try to see the entire weekend slate, April 8-10. Go Sox!
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) I'll bet Clinton paid all his hotel bills in cash keeps the little lady from catching him when the credit card bills come in. LOL Hilary: "Honey, how come there are 4 towel charges on this hotel bill?" Bill: "Well, it was really hot in Oregon. In October. Really, it was."
  13. QUOTE(Butter Parque @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) What would you like me to say. All I know is when it cma down to it, bot shooters disappeared in the clutch. Redick against Michigan State and Stoudamire against Illinois. I'm just pimpin' you a bit, man. I lived with a Duke grad for five years, so I've just recently weaned myself from the True Blue Kool-aid. Still hate Carolina, though. Go Spartans!
  14. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) Redick 115 out of 276 3's at a .417 clip, 93% FT, .410 FG% Stoudemire 110 out of 213 at a .512 clip, 91% FT, .512 FG% So lets compare. Redick has 5!!! more made 3's on the year, while taking 63 more 3's, has a 2% higher FT average, and .10% less in FG%, yet Redick is the better shooter? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK then. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that ButterParque has shied away from this reply?
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 11:38 PM) Haha, good one Mpls. There is really nothing you can do. There are morons out there who think they know things that they really dont. BTW, who's signature is on that ball in your avy? The best player out of St. Michaels, MD, Harold Baines.
  16. I am almost in the same situation as silver and black. Sox/Bears (but not Illini) fan in Minneapolis, and, for the most part, the sports fans here are fair-weather idiots. That's why I'm so glad I found this place. The steroid thing is a great example of the lameness of Minnesota fans. When they see that Frank has been subpeonaed (so sue me for the spelling, I'm a bartender, not a lawyer), they immedately say, "Frank Thomas has been taking steroids for years." I then try to explain that Frank was 6'5", 270 from the day he came into the league and that he has been outspoken against the juice and that said outspokeness is the very reason why he wishes to testify. The response? "Well. I know he's done steroids." Can't argue with logic like that.
  17. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Minnesota - New Stadium to be built soon Not even remotely true. The Vikings are one of the most likely teams to move to LA, precicesly because of their stadium problems. And if the Vikings moved to LA, most of these fair-weather yahoos here would become Packer fans. Yuck.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Bruce Webers mom is in surgery with a torn aorta. Thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Weber, and Bruce. That is bad news. I truly hope she'll pull through.
  19. I think tomorrow might be a little different for the Gophers... That's OK, though, now that I know for certain that they're dancing.
  20. 66-47 with 5:20 left. I fear the one last Hoosier run.
  21. Hoosiers are brutal from the line. To call them bricklayers is an insult to masons worldwide.
  22. Minn. needs to take care of the ball better -- unfortunately, there's that thing about old dogs...
  23. D. J. is very good. And Bracey looks to be heating up. Those easy ones need to fall for the Gophs.
  24. I hope she's doing OK. Luckily, there is no shortage of good hospitals in Chicago. Minn-IU very entertaining. 6 point halftime lead for the Feisty Rodents.
