  1. Would you trade Anderson along with other pieces for 2 years (or less if Sox are forced to trade him in the off-season out of financial considerations, which are not as likely with the current attendance and revenue surge, but are nonetheless a distinct possibility given JR' track record) of Randy Johnson? Just curious.

can't throw, can't hold on to the relay throw home (multiple times), unbelivable bad hitter and a slow runner. At least Davis can play D. and has some (if undeveloped) talent. That GIDP he hit into almost cost the Sox this game.
  3. Yep, not cool at all. If she'd been born a male (ok, more like hemaphrodite), she'd be Clujer. :headshake
  4. I don't know which is a bigger "secret", that Ncorg is not in fact JR's confidant, or 'Baseball"'s identity. I figured, you'd figure it out in a second. My bad.
  5. The answer to that question is on page 4 or 5 of this very thread, Willie.
  6. With all this talk of list exchanges.....Cue "Mission Impossible" music. With HSC playing the part of Vanessa Redgrave, of course
  7. Finally, someone with some common sense. When selections were made (which was before Lee hit a homer in Wrigley and went on a big streak), Lawton blew him away - hit better, ran better, defended at least as well. Sabathia and Westbrook are better than Buerhle and Loaiza this year, Loaiza especially. Uribe was beter than Belliard until a month ago. Then he turned horrible and Belliard held his own. Victor Martinez. No explantion needed. When selections were made, Shingo hadn't yet blown up against the Cubs, and was having a flawless season. The problem here is that Gordon pitched almost 20 innings more than Shingo has. It's Kenny's fault - if he had stopped forcing Koch down Ozzie' throat, then Shingo would have pitched 8-10 more innings, with a handful more saves. That probably would have put him over the top. Oh well.
  8. If Carlos is going to be hitting liners into RCF gap with bases loaded in big situations.....and if he hits 420-foot HR to LF, also in key situations......I don't give a f*** what he does. Sammy Sosa hit 66 HR in a season - if Carlos could do that, let him hop, skip, shimmy-shake, whatever. With Thomas down, and KW hopefully smart enough to pursue Randy Johnson, Carlos Lee stepping up in the #4 spot is what Sox DESPERATELY need.
  9. There were many S-metric studies done and you'd be suprised to find out that HITTING is almost as important as pitching in the regular season, contrary to the popular belief. (Dodgers found that out last year.) But in the playoffs? You need big-time pitching first and foremost, and given that Loaiza has had nothing lately, the only way Sox DON'T need Randy Johnson is if Garcia and Buerhle were studs - and they're not. The former doesn't have the mental make-up and the latter - stuff. I am fine with Buerhle and Garcia pitching in Games 2 and 3 of ALDS, but someone has to take the ball in Game 1 and Game 4.
  10. Is that ALL it's going to take to get Unit? f***, Sox could come up with a comparable offer in a heartbeat.
  11. If Randy Johnson goes to NY, I will forever lose respect for him, the annoying lying sell-out that he would be. Word to Chris Rock and his "whatever happened to the good ol' days when people around the league actually tried to, you know, beat the Yankees and stuff -- not be eager to get on their payroll?". If he doesn't realize what a sweet set-up Chicago can be (his kids are out of school, so take them with for a couple fo months, Arizona ST facilities, jet rides back, etc) and how big of a hero he could be if he helps bring in the Windy City, to say nothing of the decidedly softer media than in places like NY and LA......Then at least have a decency to STAY TRUE TO YOUR WORD AND STAY WITH ARIZONA. Failing that.....go to St. Luis or Atlanta and help them beat the Cubs in the divisional AND wild card races. Edit: If he does win in NY, how much credit will he get on a team with a 200 Mill payroll? Where is the glory/fun in winning a gazzillionth WS title for the Evil Empire?
  12. That guy is something else, isn't he? I find the French brain-nibbler's story more plausible.
  13. Anderson aside for a moment, "high ceiling" is a funny concept. And I agree that you need plenty of "tools" to survive in the bigs. BUT.....What good is size/strenght/quickness if you a) can't see the pitch well b.) can't make contact with that pitch c) lack patience and discipline d) lack utmost confidence in your abilities e) are lazy/uncoachable That's why I always hear about raw talents like Anthony Webster and Chris Young and the future superstar comparisons and remain skeptical.
  14. Bananas I think. "Your honor, this trial is a travesty, 2 mockeries and a sham...."
  15. 1. Does JUGGERNAUT and others understand now why Frank Thomas should NOT have been making the kind of money (long-term deal) a 1000 OPS would normally warrant? Something about "36yo, heavy DH types with injury history not being the best long-term investment in the current market.....rolleyeyes.gif Frank should go to the HOF as a White Sox, but that 3-year/35 Mill thing that was thrown around by some right around the time Frank voiced his despleasure with the current set-up was pure crazy-talk. There is a reason why Edgar Martinez (a guy who had a 960 OPS while playing in Safeco until late August of 2003 before injuring his foot and regressing) is only making 4 Mill a year in 2004. Frank undoutedly deserves more, but not by THAT much. 2. Why are we talking about Jason "huge contract" Kendall when we have Esteban Loaiza as a Game 3 starter? Make 'Zona a good offer damnit. Then pray either Harris or Uribe figures out what made them so successful until 3-4 weeks ago. 3. Finley would be nice, indeed. With Frank out until at least September especially.
  16. Yes, and IF he greatly helps the process of resurrecting the old Sox Army (1st place team, playoff threat, park renovations, then comcast, rev. sharing.....all resulting in better talent-buying power and even more success in the future - perhaps even culminating in a WS title) and putting the Sox organization back on the national map with his pitching and his name............by the time you're gonna have to pay back the deferred moneys, Sox could very well be the Atlanta Braves of ALC with an annual payroll of 80+ Mill. Or.....you could play it safe, keep penny-pinching, keep rebuilding....and then wonder why 1999 team barely drew 1 mill and nobody generally gives a crap about the franchise anymore
  17. ".....there is not one homosexual on that jury". "Yes there is" "Really? Is it that big guy in the corner".
  18. How about....no? And I have nothing against a HR hit by a Sox - if I get a chance to catch it, I'll keep it. I am not anti-baseball per se. But the ball hit by a no-name opposing player? That sucker is going back, with style.
  19. Are you telling me you wouldn't trade the entire Charlotte Knights for Bonds and Prior?
  20. Junior Spivey is about to begin making big money and has been injured or sucking or both. Overbay was a mistake, true. But Sexson is a bigger draw and in the long run will be a better player. Do tou think Ovebay would have made a difference this year, with the way Gonzo, Kata, Hammock and Cintron stunk it up early in a year and starting rotation and BP falling apart and all.....They are on pace to lost 105 games. With Overbay and without Sexson they lose 90+. Oooh. In any case, that's a risk you take. Trades don't always work out in your favor, but to call their GM an idiot is a bit extreme.
  21. Don't ask, don't tell. Not everyone. Just the hard-core "dont't throw it back" trash that doesn't fool me with their "endangering the players" malarkey. They should mind their f***ing business is all. Not anyone. Just me.
  22. The problem is.... Throwing the ball back gets you VERY few cheers at Comiskey, trust me. Oops there floats THAT arguementative balloon of yours. And when I hopefully catch a HR hit by a Sox player, I won't be throwing it back. Oops again - why would I pass up on such opportunity to "bask in the glory" if that really were the reason for throwing it back? If it really WAS all about the attention, wouldn't I catch the ball, than preen and pose a bit, then FAKE throwing it back - before triumphantly displaying the ball to the crowds in one smooth act of mocking the abhorent Cubbie Tradition.....Wouldn't that maximize the cheer factor AND allow me to actually keep the ball which I could later display to my shallow, jerkwad friends? But you WERE right without even knowing it: it IS about me. It felt good throwing it and I recall being mini-proud of myself, albeit for different reasons than you ham-handedly stated. But then 5 minutes later, I forgot about the whole thing -- none of that life-long shrine-building, ball-hugging, reminiscing YOU and your ilk engage in when you float on helium the entire week after catching a foul-ball...during batting practice. Oh and if you hadn't heard upthread....when you throw it back, the kid gets it anyway - from a player/coach no less.
  23. And I can counter that with "Cut the crap. We all know why most people wouldn't throw the ball back even if it were not frowned upon - it makes them feel special in one way or another, consciously or subconsciously. The self-serving brand of intellectual dishonesty you got going here ain't foolin' me."
