  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) Tampa's Peter Bourjos just hit a homer vs Yanks. I wish the Sox had a guy like that in CF.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) A good defensive 1B catches that hop. At least come off the bag and knock it down.
  3. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 05:07 PM) Avi would be completely unplayable in CF, it's crazy to think otherwise. Charlie Tilson will be the CF when he's healthy. Until he hurts himself again.
  4. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) Add rob mackowiak to that Yep. I was just going to edit my post with that!
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) Yeah, there's a reason why Avi was moved to RF in the first place. I think he ends up in LF after Melky's gone, or DH. Well he's shown he can't play RF and he doesn't hit enough to be a DH. And playing LF would somewhat neutralize his strongest tool which is his throwing arm. What's to lose trying him in CF? Hell, the Sox played guys like Carl Everett and a half crippled Ken Griffey JR. in CF when they were contenders. But they can't try Avi in CF during a rebuild when they have no other major league ready CFers in the entire organization?
  6. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Avi Trying Avi in CF is actually not a bad idea at this point. Some outfielders actually find centerfield easier to play than a corner. He sucks in RF anyway so what do they have to lose? If he can play anywhere passably in CF he would be much more valuable. Besides, his bat plays better in CF anyway. Remember, he came up playing some CF.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 8, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) If Raburn comes up and replaces him, who starts in CF and who is the backup? I know you're not suggesting Raburn but if they really wanted to call him up soon is the scenario I'm giving. Let Avi play CF. He can't be any worse there than he is in RF and he may actually be better. Some players find it easier to play CF than a corner OF spot. Plus his bat plays better in CF than in RF.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Abreu needs to be a full time DH. Yep.
  9. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) Those are the two options? Stick to fireworks, dude. OK, "dude."
  10. I wish we had Caray and Piersall to get us through this rebuild.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) You are going to hate the next two seasons Sox should be a .500 in 2018 and a contender by 2019. If not, they'll probably suck for another decade.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) I think the infield defense will be better than last year. Catching will be better. CF defense will be much better. Melky is Melky in LF. RF is a big downgrade, but I expect Avi will DH his fair share (Melky too). I don't think the defense will be THAT bad, at least initially. Pitching? Meh. Bullpen is fine to pretty solid. Q and Rodon are just fine as 1 and 2. I think Gonzalez is fine as a #5. Shields will be better, but not good. I think Holland will be a fine #4. Basically we have a #1, and #3 (with the chance to be a #1 as well), and three #4/#5 types. You have contract years from both Melky and Frazier. I expect both to be pretty solid, and Frazier to be much better than last year. They should both be motivated. Abreu was awful in the first half last year - I expect him to be much better. I am excited to see Saladino out there most days and think at worst he is a 1 WAR player. Managing will be better. I think the team may have a bit of a chip on its shoulder with how bad everyone thinks they will be. Really only subtracted 2 players off last years team, and while they were both very good, one only impacted 20% of the games, and both were questionable clubhouse guys (I admittedly loved them both). I just don't think this team is that bad. I don't think they're going to compete for the division or anything, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see they get off to a decent start. I know I for one will be rooting for wins and hoping for good performances for all team members until its obvious that they suck. I just can't root for my team to lose. The chances of us getting Seth Beer are minimal. I pretty much agree with all of this.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) You think managers matter a hell of a lot more than I do. They traded away their 2 best players (Roughly 11 WAR) and added nothing to replace them. 70 wins absolute best record possible for me. I expect better production from every infield position, catcher, and similar to last year's production from LF and CF. Maybe Avi will surprise us by having a halfway decent season. Pitching is going to be a problem and DH is a big question mark but the managing and clubhouse should be better so I'll say the Sox turn in a pretty meh season with between 75 - 79 wins. That's not taking into account any trades of regulars for prospects that aren't ready to contribute to the major league roster.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Everyone is entitled to their opinion but how? I think they are a bottom 5 team in league right now and haven't subtracted more yet. Addition by subtraction. No more Ventura for one.
