QUOTE (joegraz @ May 3, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Sure he cares. He just made the ages-old mistake of hiring "family" members to run his company. It. Never. Works. Amen.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) When no one comes to the games and they head into next season with 20 million less payroll, they have no one to blame but themselves And then the fans will be lectured that they need to show up so the organization can have money to improve the team.

Why should Robin Ventura have a MLB manager job
South Side Fireworks Man replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 2, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) Ventura shouldn't have been hired in the first place. He came into the Sox managing job without any credentials to be a manger. He was fricking coaching a high school baseball team and doing college baseball color commentary. He was a really good major league player, but that is not a credential to being a successful manager. Never coached college ball, minor league ball or was a coach at the Major League level. The Sox just hired him for god knows why. To this day, I have absolutely no idea why the hell he was offered the White Sox job. He needs to go, plain and simple. We have a team that plays such horses*** fundamentals, bad defense, terrible at-bats. At some point, the manager has to shoulder the blame. Success is never solely because of a manager and ditto for failure, but he deserves a significant part of the blame. Absolutely agree. There are only thirty MLB manager jobs and there are so many baseball people who have coached and managed in the minor leagues or even in the major leagues for years who are just dying to get a shot at managing a big league club. It's really a slap in the face to hire a guy with absolutely no coaching experience who never even seemed interested in managing. What did Robin have on his resume that qualified him to manage a major league team that was serious about contending? Would any of the other major league teams even have had him under consideration to manage? Did the Sox even do their due diligence and interview any other candidates? -

"you're clueless about how to deal with the world" synonyms: oblivious, unaware, unmindful, insensible, ignorant, unobservant; insensitive, unaffected, indifferent Yes, hiring someone with zero coaching experience at any level to manage a major league baseball franchise is pretty clueless. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 2, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) Or, you know, after he's PROVEN he can work as a high leverage LOOGY then you put him in. Apparently he's Matt Thornton the way RV uses him. Yea it's the 5th inning but that was a high leverage spot. Frankly Duke would have been better. But you know, relievers have roles I guess god forbid Duke would come in before the 7th. That's what happens when you hire a guy who has never coached at any level to manage your major league club. -

I don't think the problem is so much using him as a reliever as much as it is using him in high pressure situations with runners on base. I think Stone agrees he should be starting innings. -

QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) So, let me get this straight; The Orioles will make the concession to the Rays, to travel to Tampa, instead of playing that entire series in Baltimore, as originally scheduled. However, they expect the Sox to come back and play a double header in Baltimore, on a day that would have been an off day. Seems the Rays will not be inconvenienced in the least. They didn't have to make a trip for nothing, have their entire schedule disrupted, or suffer any other negative consequences. However, the Sox just have to bend over backwards to make it all work for Baltimore. Maybe whoever said; "The Sox are just bending over, to get shafted", or something to that effect, was right. The Sox certainly got the short end here but JR allowed it to happen. If Baltimore refused to make reasonable accommodations for the Sox, he should have used his supposed influence with mlb to pressure them to either play these games in DC or Chicago or force them to forfeit. Why do the Sox bear most of the burden for something that happened in Baltimore? -
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) If the shoe was on the other foot... If the mayor of Chicago "gave rioters space" to riot and the city couldn't control their own "citizens" then the Sox or the Cubs should forfeit the games. Didn't the Sox have to forfeit the game on Disco Demolition Night?
