I see. From Wikipedia: Oviedo was born in Bonao in the Dominican Republic. At age 17, Oviedo assumed the identity of his 16-year old best friend, Leo Nunez, in order to receive a more lucrative contract. In 2011, Marlins reliever Edward Mujica, a close friend of Oviedo's, said that "[a]t 17 years old, you maybe lose $100,000 or $150,000 when you sign [compared to a 16-year-old with the same skills]. And if you're like 18, you might sign for $5,000 and maybe they give you an opportunity."[3]

Rosenthal speculates on deadline deal candidates

Unless someone blows the Sox away with some ridiculous package, trading Alexei would be a big mistake. -

Was in Sec 340 Club Level. Great finish and I called both of Abreu's HRs! What was going on with Balfour and Konerko? What did Hawk and Stone think it was? Did Hawk have a heart attack calling the Grand Slam??? Your browser does not support iframes. Thanks, Man!!! That was great!

Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) Maybe if a team looking to acquire Beckham asked Hahn to see him there a couple of times, but the risk of reinjuring the oblique/strain (at another position) is probably a couple of degrees higher than at the one position he's most comfortable and familiar with. There are lots of faster/reaction/quick twitch plays at 3B, and then he would also have to make the throw across the diamond and against his body coming in on the bunt. That's a good way to get hurt again. If Gordon's oblique injury is still bothering him enough that it would would prevent him from throwing across his body he probably should still be on the DL, not taking a spot on the major league roster. Let him heal up so he can come back and play without restriction. -
Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 06:41 PM) Gillaspie should go to the DL, Semien starts ED at 3B. In the future, he's going to be either 2B or SS. He may very well field well enough to be a SS. Micah Johnson is far from a sure thing and his ability to be an infielder is completely up in the air. Then why not start Semien every day at 2B and let Beckham play 3B until Gillaspie gets back? -
Season 6 of the Gordon Beckham Era

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2014 -> 07:34 AM) This reminds me of the venom when Ozzie made Crede the 3rd baseman in 2008. People couldn't live without Josh Fields. I wouldn't be surprised to see Semien stay and play 2B, 3B and maybe some OF. A Tony Phillips-like guy. Hawk did mention Tony Phillips during the game yesterday. But as was posted above, besides his clutch homers (I thought there was no such thing as clutch) Semien has shown he probably could use some time in the minors. I somewhat agree with you but if both are going to be on the major league roster I would rather see Beckham be the one that is moved around. Platoon him at 3B with Gillaspie, and let him play a little outfield as well as backup the other IF positions. Since it's more likely Semien will be the Sox 2B of the future, let him stay there and continue to develop. Also, it may improve Beckham's trade value if he shows he can play some OF as well as three IF positions.
