  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) That's a lot of respect for a rookie with one game under his belt. And some disrespect for the veteran batting behind him.
  2. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) Veal and Leesman. Welcome, Senor Ding-Dong!
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) Phegley is likely going to be the starter, so your wish has probably been granted. If they don't acquire a decent starting catcher, Nieto will probably be the starter with Flowers the backup and Phegley starting in AAA. If Phegley tears it up in Charlotte and Nieto isn't impressing, Phegley will probably get called up to take over. If Hahn is able to swing a deal for a good catcher, I think Nieto stays as the backup and Flowers is released or traded. Either way, Phegley probably starts in AAA unless Nieto really shows absolutely nothing in ST.
  4. If they don't add a good catcher before opening day, as it stands now I see Nieto as the starting catcher with Flowers on the bench and Phegley starting every day in AAA. If they add a starting catcher I see Nieto as the backup and Flowers gone.
  5. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) Ed was especially good at blocking the plate. Who can forget the collision at the plate with Bert Campanaris?
  6. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) His name is Nick. ...And he dances on the sand?
  7. Balfour is an unfortunate name for a pitcher.
  8. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) The young players may, or may not develop fast enough for this team to compete this year. However, even if they do, the line up is still missing a left handed, impact bat. I'm still very uncomfortable depending upon Dunn to provide the only left handed balance, in the heart of the order. Unfortunately, with the new acquisitions, it's hard to see where they now have room to add that LH bat. Whose place would that player take? Catcher.
  9. I wish they would leave with a significant upgrade at Catcher.
  10. 1. Win the Division 2. Win the Pennant 3. Win the World Series
  11. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) Typical Belisario outing for the dodgers went like this... Comes into game with a 3 run lead, clean inning. Bottom of the order. Walks the first batter on 4 pitches well out of the zone. Grooves a fastball on the first pitch to the second batter and gives up a base hit to put runners on the corners with no outs. Hits the third batter in the back on the first pitch. Mattingly puts in Paco Rodriguez who promptly gives up a grand slam. So you're saying as long as the Sox don't acquire Paco Rodriguez we should be fine.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) Because it's $1 million for a catcher who is solid defensively, knows the staff, is well liked in the clubhouse, and can hit the ball 500 feet.
  13. Navarro would be a good platoon partner with a decent left-handed catcher but I wouldn't want the Sox to get him as their starting catcher.
  14. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) I really hope not. I really wish Konerko would just retire. He may be a fan favorite and a face of the franchise, but I don't want to watch him struggle again next year while the Sox refuse to DFA/cut him out of respect. Plus, I don't want to see him take AB's away from Abreu. I agree.
  15. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) Sounds like competition for L. Garcia in ST. I wonder if the Sox think his versatility makes it easier to keep Konerko on the roster.
  16. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws Does this guy have a shot at making the Sox bench?
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) I expect to see at least one of our SP's get dealt, soon. Rienzo for Jaso?
  18. Having a catching tandem of Flowers and Phegley is the absolute worst option. It would not only show that they are indeed punting the 2014 season, but would show they have no pride in the product they put on the field or respect for the fans who pay to see major league baseball. Bringing back AJ at this point would not be high on my list of options but would be a last resort. Going into the season with Flowers/Phegley as the two catchers on the major league roster wouldn't even be an option.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) If this is the case, and they think there is a 0% chance of either of them hitting well enough to be a #1 catcher, then they simply have to come out of this offseason with either Salty or McCann (or pull off a trade for one). They'd be better off giving McCann $80M than giving Salty $40M. Either overpay for McCann or make a reasonable trade. If all else fails however, bring back AJ rather than force us to watch Flowers/Phegley again. That's just embarassing.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) Unless he suddenly pops a ligament in his elbow and needs TJ surgery, I think it's a safe assumption that there will be no bargain big name free agent signings this year. I agree. So if the Sox are going to overpay for any free agent, I hope it's McCann. At any rate, they need to go into next season with a starting catcher other than Flowers or Phegley either by trade or free agent signing. I just hope they don't lock themselves into having Saltalamacchia be their starting catcher for the next four years by offering him 8-10M per year as some speculate. If that's the case, I'd rather they just bring back AJ for two years at a fraction of that yearly salary.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) We need to sign Salty...won't even cost a draft pick. We can then make some minor trades to shore up CF, 3B and the bullpen for a year or 2. We don't need to trade any of our pitching. No to Salty at 4yrs/36M as has been speculated. If they can get him for 4/25M, sure.
